Cox told Business Insider that the situation in Pinal County will likely raise calls for a public option, or a government-run health insurance option similar to Medicare or Medicaid.

I must be the only one that remembers county hospitals.

And those run by nuns or other charitable organizations.

I’m in Pinal county. We have insurance through hubby’s job, for now at least, but this will be a problem for some.

“2) Healthcare providers are under no obligation to treat anyone without health insurance who can’t otherwise pay.”

When I was a kid there were charity hospitals in most large cities. Doctor’s were expected to donate some of their time to charity. I was in a doctor’s office when a farmer came in and handed over what appeared to be a cured ham and a basket of eggs. He nodded at the nurse and left. I went up and asked what that was about and the nurse said the farmer had traded food for services. Every month he brought in eggs and ham.

That would probably be against the law today. A doctor told me he was under contract to give the government the lowest price. If he undercharged a patient and the government found out he would have to lower his bill to them across the board.

The charity hospitals were driven out of business.

Ok, so what’s your solution that doesn’t involve me paying for someone else’s health insurance.

Having just gone through my first Medicare enrollment, I have been in close contact with an insurance broker for a few months. I recently called to ask about private insurance for a friend. My broker told me that ‘private insurance’ would be going away and, if my friend had employer provided health insurance, to hold onto it for dear life. Private health insurance is going the way of the dodo......all by design. And believe me, when it all becomes Government healthcare, Americans are in for a really rude awakening as to how much health care they won’t be getting. Prayers that Trump is elected and can save our previously ‘best health care system in the world’.

Why does it have to be an Obamacare provider. Why can’t they just buy insurance from any company?

They can. It's just a question of affording it.

1) You don’t have to buy health insurance (repeal Obamacare). 2) Healthcare providers are under no obligation to treat anyone without health insurance who can’t otherwise pay. 3) Healthcare providers who decide to treat people who can’t pay anyway are forbidden from spreading the cost out to their other patients who can pay.

So a person without health insurance who is in a car accident is flat out of luck, huh? Might as well leave them in the wreckage.

That’s why HMOs were started. To ease the transition to Socialized Medicine. I was in college in the early 80’s and taking a course for my health sciences degree. The lecturer started talking about how healthcare is ‘a three-legged stool’. One leg is the patient, the second leg is the doctor and the third leg is the health maintenance organization. I sat in class thinking ‘how does anyone think the cost of health care will go down when there is another party taking money out of the pot’. This was right after Reagan was elected and the Carter people still had some control. This transition has been a long time coming and the Democrats only had to cheat Al Franken into the Senate to get their 60’th vote. Democrats have been very patient and this is their Grand Hurrah in fundamentally transforming the USA. More’s the pity.

Life is risky. Getting in a car is risky. Insurance is available to purchase if you want to mitigate risk. No one is forced to get into a car.

The charity hospitals were driven out of business.

They were and it was a very sad day. The change from medicine as a calling to medicine as a business was brought on by Hillary Clinton's involvement. I was a resident at the time and it was a sea change. The best and most dedicated doctors rotated through the charity hospitals in Worcester and the care of the indigent was top notch. Within 5 year of Hillary the hospital closed followed by St Vincent's in NYC and others across the Nation.

Ok, so who pays for that person's treatment?

In your scenario they do. Or they die.

Under what scenario does the person without health insurance who cannot otherwise pay get treatment that doesn’t cost the rest us?
