Vladimir Putin’s presidential plane left Moscow early Saturday, sparking rumors that he had fled the Russian capital as the Wagner Group’s mercenary forces advanced on the city.
The president’s aircraft was spotted on flight radar flying northwest from Moscow to the St Petersburg area — but then disappeared from the system near the city of Tver, the BBC reported, where Putin owns a large rural retreat.
Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov denied that his boss had turned tail amid the crisis, telling news agency TASS that he was “working in the Kremlin.”

That might be a good place for him.
SloJoe’s problems are mounting.... Flash the shiny object quick!!!! Whew They fell for it again.
I grew up hearing not only are we near the end times but they are here. That was in the late 60’s. Now more than 50 years later, the voices echo the same words. Almost like Chicken Little.
Thanks for posting. Prediction markets are often wrong (Hillary was heavily favored to win in 2016, for example). Interesting stuff, nonetheless.
“Wagner slight favorites to control Moscow: 54%.”
I wouldn’t mind putting down $1000 saying that Wagner won’t be controlling Moscow.
But thanks to Bidenflation, I don’t have that extra $1000.
None of the cynicism is humorous, just juvenile. Make your point soberly.
For Prigozhin to go this far implies he is confident of internal support inside the Kremlin...or he’s full of hubris and is recklessly deluded. Either way its a huge gamble for him.
Will Putin flee to Belarus?
Putin recently moved short-range nukes into Belarus! Will Russia descend into Civil War?
Will China seize parts of Russia during a civil war?
Will Biden simply sh*t his pants and will his handlers praise this as a new start for Russia?
Tune in next week to find out. Same time. Same station.
Can you have both at once?
Louis XVI’s flight from Paris
The royal flight to Varennes took place on June 20th, 1791. If any king could have coped with the French Revolution it was not Louis XVI. He was 19 when he succeeded his grandfather, Louis XV, in 1774. At 15 he had married the Austrian Habsburg princess Marie-Antoinette, who was 14.
The royal party’s escape began in darkness around midnight to an ingenious plan organised mainly by Axel Fersen, a Swedish officer in the French army who was a devoted admirer of Marie-Antoinette. The Chevalier de Coigny had for some weeks been a frequent visitor to the palace wearing a plain coat and hat, which Louis would wear when the time came so that the guards would take him for the chevalier. The royal children were all dressed as girls and the accompanying governess pretended to be a Russian aristocrat in charge of the group, while the role of governess was played by Marie-Antoinette herself, dressed in plain black. The king himself would pretend to be a valet.
Fersen had wanted the party to use light coaches to cover the 200 miles to Montmédy as speedily as possible, with the king and queen travelling separately, but Marie-Antoinette insisted they must all be together so, after they had passed through the city gate, Fersen met them with a large heavy coach, drawn by six horses. It was a crucial mistake.
Louis would not let Fersen travel all the way with them. He did not want to escape ignominiously conducted by a foreign soldier, so Fersen presently dropped out and they proceeded on, changing horses at points along the way. Even so, they were hours too late to join up with the military escorts that had been meant to guard them along the route. By the time they reached Sainte-Menehould, news of their flight had reached the town and the national guard had been alerted.
The local postmaster, Jean-Baptiste Drouet, had seen Marie Antoinette when he was in the army and he recognized her. He checked the face of the party’s ‘valet’ against the king’s on a paper currency note and they fitted. He rode quickly on to Varennes, the next stop, and was there when the royals arrived at close to midnight. Drouet insisted to the town authorities that the travelers were Louis and Marie Antoinette and, after some delay, an elderly citizen who had once lived at Versailles was brought in. As soon as he saw Louis he instinctively crooked his knee in homage and Louis admitted that he was the king.
The royal party were held until next day when orders arrived to send them back to Paris. Louis said ‘There is no longer a king in France’ and thousands of national guardsmen and armed citizens accompanied the royal carriage slowly back. It was widely believed that the Austrians had organized the royal escape and evidence was found in the Tuileries after the palace was stormed by a murderous mob in August 1792. The royals were sent to prison and the National Assembly proclaimed France a republic. Louis and Marie-Antoinette were tried for treason and both were found guilty. He went to the guillotine in January 1793 and she met the same fate in October.

Truth be known, we’ve been lucky to dodge the bullet a few times.
I fail to see the connection. In response to the coup. Putin launches nukes towards the US? ? ?
Biden couldn’t overthrow a Kool Aid stand.
I go with the first choice, that Prigozhin has planned this out beforehand and has support among an important part of the elites and security forces.
Whether he will actually succeed is another matter. If key political figures start calling for national unity and for negotiation with Prigozhin with an outcome in which Shoigu and Gerasimov are sacked that could be a sign of Prigozhin’s support.
Radiation poisoning for you.
👍😆
It’s like Iraq. When the Cyrillic Saddam is caught and held accountable for his crimes a freer and more prosperous country will be the result.
“Does Wagner play Ride of the Valkyries when entering Moscow?”
No. The 1812 Overture.
Biden can’t, but the unlucky Russians have to deal with Prigozhin and his merry men instead.
That is the question....although I have a couple of ideas...
A) The mercenary Prigozhin has been paid handsomely by Western governments. Hey, that’s the mercenary biz.
B) If Prigozhin and his men were/are being targeted by regular troops, he may think that his only option is to stake everything on a coup.
C) Prigozhin has allies in high places in the Kremlin, and this is all part of a coordinated revolution.
Or a combo thereof.
