Jim,

Thanks so much for the new format. I had looked at the "beta" site when it was still being developed, and I have to admit, I wasn't sure. But when I came into work tonight, logged on, and had a look at the "new Look", I have to admit, I love it!

It took me a minute to find out where everything was, but once I familiarized myself with it, everything was fine. My browser STILL doesn't load all of the pictures that people post on the threads, but I will log that as a personal problem and move on.

Again, thanks to you & John for the new look, and a question- are you hiring? I just got laid off!

RR

I don't know, but I am flattered! Happy I am at least amusing amid all this fracas!

Exactly. I know it's going to take me a few days to get used to this. The problem is HTD, there are a lot of "old timers" that haven't even seen the new changes yet. It's going to be quite noisy in here for a few days.

I know how hard it is for me to get around in a new program. And this is a new program. When I was born, computers were nonexistent.

I think a lot of people complaining are also protecting. And I think Jim and John understand this.

Then there are folks who are calling people whiners, et cetera. It's not good.

My personal opinion is this new change should have been a tad bit slower, but then, hey, I don't do software . . .

Thanks, JimRob!

I was a bit shocked by the new pages myself, but not totally. I did see the beta and looked at it a few times so I knew it was coming.

I think that the initial shock of something drastically new has fired people up a bit, but I beleive that in the long run, it will be better. Hopefully, you and John will tally up the complaints and find that there are really only a few major issues that need to be dealt with.

For the record, I like the new look but I'm used to changes. I don't know where everything is yet, but I'll find what I need. Heck, I didn't even know all the features in the last version; I generally just went to "Latest Posts" and carried on from there.

Keep up the good work and please resolve the major issues so that people can get back to freepin' again. :^)

FWIW, I like it. I think the new format offers far more flexibility, addresses the number ONE complaint so often mentioned by non-FReepers visiting the site ["Gee............I went there and, you know, like, I couldn't find the discussion area and stuff and........like........my cat was confused, too, and.........you know???"], and has a rather elegant look to it. I congratulate you and John on some superb work (again, FWIW, I've got nearly 20 years in the computer biz and am more than conversant in e-business, the Web, design, etc., so my opinion should count for something :)......lol).

You don't know me.

If you did, you wouldn't talk to me.

And I didn't say people don't know "what their talking about". I said they didn't know what they were "doing".

There's a difference.

Hey, I've got my sidebar and preferences set up. At first I was apprehensive. Now I think I'm going to like it.

WHEW!!!! (Breathing easier).

I knew we could count on you Jim. It has been a scary day, kinda like going home and discovering all your stuff has been stolen and somebody else's stuff is there in it's place. That said:

Y'all have a blessed and beautiful Easter!

"By the way, we will be working over the weekend and the next few days, to try to make the new FR face lift a little less shocking. It will all be back to (almost) normal soon.

Hang in there.

Have received thousands of comments, emails and FRmail complaints and compliments today (running about 10 to 1 in the complaint department).
Will not be able to answer all (or even most), but we will do what we can to make things better.

Thanks,
Jim

Aye, aye, Captain! All may yet be well. This morning was quite a shock to the system, but FReepers are SURVIVORS.

Like they used to say about the pioneers who risked their lives to cross the Oregon Trail:

"The cowards never started, thw WEAK died along the way. Only the STRONG survived."
The many grateful hard-core FReepers here will make this new BETA format work. You can COUNT on it!

Great work, Jim. C'mon everyone - change is good! Keeps things from getting boring (not that we ever have to worry about that on this site). I think it looks great and appreciate your efforts, Jim.

How about a few PINGS to this re-assuring thread by Jim Robinson?
His calm acceptance of this apparently necessary change in our beloved forum provides a rather stark contrast to a few of the LESS THAN positive threads posted today:

This new design makes me....

I've just noticed that my 14 year old daughter has been playing around with the new features and has fixed them to my liking.

She loves this website. I guess as long as she likes it- I'm trying to raise another conservative daughter and this website is the way to do it.

All parents should have this site as their start-up page and you slowly hook them into reading it.

Well, to be accurate, TexAggies was really a support thread...

But I am happy, even now that everything is REALLY BIG!

You see, I come here for fun, and I can still find it here!, no matter what font it is in...

For those who like the links underlined in both the sidebars and in the main body, use Netscape 3.x [either 32 or 16 bit].

Also AOL3.0 [16 bit] uses an old version of IE under the shell, which shows links in the underlined format.

The old maxim applies to today's situation:

Every good soldiers realizes the only constant is change.
And every good soldier learns to not only deal with change, but embrace it.

My feeling: the new format will take some getting used to. But five years from now,
there will be "old timers" bragging about how they "survived" the Format of March 30, 2002!
