[history]
POWELL (AP) -- The Humane Society of Delaware County found a small dog reported missing by a resident of this Columbus suburb -- inside a 10-foot Burmese python.
Now police would like to find the owner of the snake.
Terry Doodan found the snake, with a telltale bulge in its middle, under the basement steps of her home while she was working on renovations.

CONTROLS (no dog):

If I found a snake like that in my yard, it would be dead soon after I found it. Only idiots would want something that dangerous. Of course if it happened to eat my dog the idiot-owner would better hope he had medical insurance.

Reminds me of an old Girl Scout song...
...She swallowed the dog to catch the frog, she swallowed the frog to catch the spider that wriggled and jiggled and tickled inside her, she swallowed the spider to catch the fly...perhaps she'll die.
Sorry...just couldn't help myself...senility coming on.

I have a red tail boa, a dog dalmation and a cat. I am fully aware of the danger to my cat. He has stayed away from the snake from day one when he was only 12 inches long. Now he is much bigger. He will get to about 7-8 feet long when he is full grown. He is a great snake. Very docile, however, I am aware that he would eat my cat if he gets the chance, so we make sure that he is secure in his habitat. And well fed. Snakes kill only when they are hungry or feel threatened like any animal.

"...If I found a snake like that in my yard, it would be dead soon after I found it. Only idiots would want something that dangerous. Of course if it happened to eat my dog the idiot-owner would better hope he had medical insurance..." Ding Ding Ding!
Smittie got it right.
I can only add that, if it were my dog, I'd drown the snake in Clorox.

I've always wondered about people who like to keep big snakes like this one.How the hell do they sleep nights with something like this in the house. A friend of my father used to keep several rattlesnakes around the house in tanks. One of them got out once and he never located the thing. Not my idea of a good pet.

"...Not my idea of a good pet..." I don't go out of my way to stomp snakes, but I won't have the damn things in my house.
Even something as harmless as a garter snake makes itself unwelcome by virtue of its capacity to stink to high heaven.
Those who keep snakes should, at a minimum, be extremely cautious if the snake is hazardous in any way.
And they should have a sh!t-load of liability insurance.

Snake insurance-good idea. On the rare occasion I've seen snake owners out in public showing off their snakes and letting people pet them and hold them and stuff,I've often wondered what would happen if a ten foot Boa started strangling someone. They have amazing strength squeezing things, and it takes several people to pry one from around someones neck.I guess they are usually pretty tame, but the potential is always there. I saw the "crocodile hunter" on TV get into some pretty serious moments handling big snakes.

You've got a cat that's going to be 7 to 8 feet long?
