Knox dentist recalls work with *selfless* in Yemen

Two of his ex-colleagues were shot dead at hospital

Dr. Mac Prevost was sitting at home Monday when his father called to tell him two of his former colleagues had been killed in Jibla, Yemen. From 1982 to 1983, Prevost worked at the Jibil Baptist Hospital with Dr. Martha C. Myers and William E. Koehn, the hospital director. Myers, Koehn and Kathleen Gariety were shot Monday morning at the hospital by a Yemeni man identified as Abed Abdul Razak Kamel.

"When I found out, I felt sorrow but not shock," the Knoxville dentist said Tuesday. "That area of Yemen has been harboring more Islamic extremists. But these are people I spent over a year of my life with. They were selfless people who were giving of themselves."

Prevost had never heard of Yemen when he was sent there in 1982 by the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. He had just finished dental school and wasn*t sure what he wanted to do with his career.

"Even though it*s a Muslim country it is pretty moderate," he said. "They allowed us to be in the country as nonbelievers of Islam. But we couldn*t openly proselytize."

The young dentist received a crash course in Arabic when he arrived in Yemen and then set to work pulling teeth. He did mostly extractions, charging patients 15 riyals, or about $3, for his services.

At the time, the fee-for-service hospital had only 70 beds and was one of six hospitals in the country. It charged people just enough to cover costs and gave away many services.

"The people in Jibla loved the people at the hospital because they had such poor health care," he said. "They let us be there *cause we were helping the country and the people."

BTW You should also add a WA address and zipcode so she will believe that you are one of HER constituents, otherwise she and her staff will most likely simply ignore your email.

It was a former constituent of Ms Murray, a thirty year old young woman, who was heartlessly gunned downed at the Lebanon clinic. The woman's family still lives in Lynden, WA and our local newspaper, the Bellingham Herald had the gall to print the NYT report of her murder which indicated that her death was her own fault because she had been proselytizing the Muslim youth.

Yeah. This would be good to send to Patty bin Laden. And another great thread to send to her would be the threads posted by Diogenesis (You gotta see this!) that show the tremendous efforts our precious military is undergoing to help Afganistan develop and thrive as a democracy. From the bridge and school building, to the food distribution, to the medical aid, to the agricultural know-how, to the fostering of friendship, to the protection and concern shown on these photos----well, you cannot help but fall in love with our military personnel upon viewing them.

Patty is stupid, ill informed and more concerned about politics than world peace. That is a given.

She should be sent every single thread Diogenesis posts---the pictures tell a story that moves the heart and informs the soul that America is a very, very great nation, indeed. If Patty has a heart (her face tells me she is very bitter), she will be moved and convicted to stop her horrid treachery. If she doesn't have a heart-at least some of her staff may get the message. I suppose, since they were merely doctors and not day care providers they had it coming. Had they been trying to impose a medieval theocracy on the Yemenis I guess you would have found occassion to praise their good works.

I see that in the annual ratings of congress criters you copped the covected "No Rocket Scientist Award" once again, prior to the latest confab. Obviously you intend to fight to retain to title.

Keep up the good work, a few more like you and the Democratic Party may become the third most popular party in the United States.

As you know Gaius Caesar, popularly remembered as Caligula (and role model for a recent American President) appointed his favor horse Incitus ("Sexually Aroused") to the Senate. At least the Boy Emperor had the good sense to send the entire horse.

All this will do is incite Murray to claim that this whole thing is simply the work of "conspiratorial internet stalkers" and possibly win sympathy.

We would be better off fowarding the article to media outlets and requesting, by letters to the editor and otherwise, that they note that Murray's outragous and treasonous claims have been repudiated yet again.

They don't ignore the email..and all I wanted to do was have it read, as they wrote back for my address so she could respond.However I am not into lying about an address. I just wanted it read and help build a mass negative response to her seditious actions.Thanks for posting the story.

I was also surprised you did not get more response to this story. Would be interested to read who in Washington wrote and what the response was...as if we don't know already what her rhetoric would be. Our mass email would alone send the message and not thru "threats" as the Democrats are often whining; but thru intelligent criticism, not "name-calling".
