Resolution To Support Our Troops

This page is dedicated to providing information on how you can support our troops by having your city pass a resolution or proclamation to support our men and women in armed forces.

The inspiration for this effort was initiated by a resolution sponsored by Doug Hawkins, District 25 Councilmember and passed in Louisville, Kentucky on January 23, 2003. To read the original resolution click here.

I took Doug's resolution and sent it to my city council respresenative and in two days I was informed that the text would be made into a proclamation by the city of Loveland, Colorado. I was amazed, not only at he speed of the action, but by the enthusiasm it was received .

You can get your town to recognize and support our troops too. Click the link below and cut and paste the text into an email, fill in the blanks with your home town and send ot to your elected officials. Blank Resolution

Send this link to anyone who may want to participate.

Let me know of your progress and I will add your city to a list of those who have passed this resolution.

I have emailed Councilman Doug Hawkins and traded phone messages with him. I asked for his permission to use his text in a nation wide campaign and he his honored to have it used anywhere. I also gave him links to this thread and Operation Infinite Freep threads in Colorado and Louisville.

Here is the thread that started it all. A city council finally gets it right! Louisville, KY Metro Council votes to support our Troops.

Let's get all the cities in Northern Colorado to pass this resolution. Well, almost everyone. Boulder is out because they passed an opposite resolution, but there is nothing to say that someone from Boulder couldn't sumbit this for a vote also.

Big ole' bump from Louisville KY! I'm proud of our newly installed Metro Council for passing this resolution.

Louisville KY and Jefferson County KY, the county in which Louisville is located, recently merged and now we're Metro Louiville and the 16th biggest city in the US.

This resolution was one of the first things our new Metro Council voted on.

I found Doug Hawkins to be humbled when I asked him to use his text for a nation wide campaign. He seems to be a truly wonderful man to have on our side.

Great job fivetoes! I spoke with Doug Hawkins at a State of the Union party and he was delighted that his Resolution was going out across the Republic. I plan to speak at the next Metro Council meeting this Thursday night to thank those 17 members who voted to support our troops and to inform them of this grassroots nationwide effort. FReep on!!

Feb. 24, 2003 Port St. Lucie, Florida will add this resolution. I handed it to my neighbor, he handed it to the Mayor, the Mayor handed it to a councilman and I got a call yesterday to be at the meeting to forward it as a proclamation (I think that is what he said, not as a resolution),

will tell more after Feb, 24.

Loveland, Colorado Passes a Proclamation to Support Our Troops

I just got back from our city council meeting where I was asked to read the proclamation. Here are my opening remarks followed by the actual proclamation. I was asked by my councilor not to bring up any FReeping activities as they would have to give equal time to them. (I keep him informed of our FReeps)LOL

Mayor Pro-Tem and Loveland City Councilors, I want to thank you for this proclamation and for your support for all of the men and women serving in the United States Armed Forces throughout the world.

Ever since that fateful dawn of April 19, 1775 when the shot heard around the world that started the Revolutionary War, Americans have answered the call to arms to preserve our precious freedom. The principles of Liberty and Freedom are the same today as they were over two hundred years ago.

Our Founding Fathers knew that freedom from tyranny would not be without cost. It would be paid for with blood sweat and tears. Our military personnel throughout the history of our great nation also realize that freedom is not free. They have taken an oath to preserve and defend our Constitution.

It is only right that we citizens acknowledge the personal sacrifices and pray for the safe return of our local men and women who have answered the call.

God bless our troops!

and the proclamation

PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, the President of the United States has activated and deployed numerous men and women of the Armed Forces from the City of Loveland, Colorado, to assignments and missions related to the on-going global war on terror and the current crisis in Iraq; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Loveland, Colorado have achieved world wide renown for their zeal and patriotism in answering their nation's call to duty whenever the cause of Freedom and Justice is threatened by foreign tyrants and aggressors; and
WHEREAS, the uniformed men and women of our community are once again called on to offer their utmost devotion in the defense of their country and to bring peace to a troubled corner of the earth.

NOW THEREFORE, we, the City Council of the City of Loveland, do hereby wholeheartedly support and appreciate the brave men and women of the City of Loveland, Colorado who are serving in the United States Military, and wish them godspeed in their dangerous missions and a safe return from harm's way.

Signed this 18th day of February, 2003

Larry Walsh, Mayor Pro-Tem

Yeah, I'm pumped! Thank you Doug Hawkins

That is the beauty of this resolution. There is nothing partisan in it. If someone does not endorse it you can come out screaming that they don't support our troops.
