A Few of FR's Finest..... ......Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders; tell a few jokes; learn a new word; write poetry; pray for those in need; and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001
So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!
And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

President's Day ~ February 17, 2003
Today we honor two presidents who celebrated their birthdays in February. George Washington, first President of the United States, was born on February 22, 1732 according to the calendar that has been used since the mid-18th century. According to the old-style calendar in use at the time of his birth, however, he was born on February 11.
Abraham Lincoln, sixteenth President of the United States, was born on February 12, 1809. He was born on a bed of poles covered with corn husks. The baby was named Abraham after his grandfather. The birth took place in the Lincolns' rough-hewn cabin on Nolin Creek near Hodgenville, Kentucky.
By the early 19th Century, Washington's birthday had taken firm root in the American experience as a bona fide national holiday. Then, along came Abraham Lincoln, another revered president and also born in February. The first formal observance of Lincoln's birthday took place in 1866, the year after his assassination, when both houses of Congress gathered for a memorial address. While Lincoln's birthday did not become a federal holiday like George Washington's, it did become a legal holiday in several states.
In 1968, legislation (HR 15951) was enacted that affected several federal holidays. One of these was Washington's Birthday, the observation of which was shifted to the third Monday in February each year whether or not that Monday fell on the 22nd. This Act, which took effect in 1971, was designed to simplify the yearly calendar of federal employee holidays and give these employees some three-day weekends in the process.
While the holiday in February is still officially known as Washington's Birthday (at least according to the Office of Personnel Management), it has become popularly (and, in some cases, legally at the state level) known as "President's Day." This has made the third Monday in February a day for honoring both George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, as well as all of the other men who have served as president.
I'd like to give special mention, this holiday, to a president who stepped into his position amidst great controversy and who took his leadership duties seriously and with great moral conviction. When faced with an attack of horrific magnitude against innocent citizens, this president showed fierce resolve to bring their murderers to justice. He has "grown" into his presidency with the grace and skill of a natural-born leader. That president is our current President of the United States: George W. Bush.
Here are some interesting statistics regarding Presidents Washington, Lincoln and Bush:

1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar. 2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up. 3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit. 4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it. 5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me an FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer

Good morning to all. Gee dansangel got me up this morning she beat me. Lets celebrate Presidents day for all of our real Presidents! that's 42 of them. We had one that was only acting as a President and he didn't even to that well, but he had a real B***H for a leading female (I couldn't say lady).

I'm in VT, up early this morning to try to find a way back to DC! Hee hee -- don't bother wishing me luck. Wish me a brain instead. Everyone have an extra cup of cocoa from MeekNMing for me!
Before foolishly departing from my brother's hearth and home, here's an important task I do undertake: an amusingly foolish calendar page:

I see the weather hasn't grounded you! Hartsfield had a whole slew of "sleep-overs" last night because of weather up north. Our precipitation stayed "liquid", fortunately.

I wouldn't mind being stranded in VT - lots of beautiful mountains and forests. Used to vacation in Stowe with my folks as a youngster.
Hope you make it back OK. DC is socked in from what I understand. You may want to delay your return!
Be safe!

Oops! That was "dansdevil" doing the talking....heheheheh.
I know what you're saying - his very evilness makes those 8 years important in that it explains a lot of what's going on today.
But I hate to count him in as a president....more like the "joker."

I hate to count him in as a president....more like the "joker." oh, i definitely don't call him "president" or ever "my" president....joker is good.....either that or part of the "axis of evil"--to which hitlery also belongs....(wonder if GW ever privately has spoken those words, at least to his wife?, sometimes I think so.)
