Positively love listening to John MacArthur!...study with him daily on Grace To You...just finished up the Gospel of John and now working on the Book of Acts...I also listen to J. Vernon McGee at times and David Jeremiah, but my favorite is MacArthur...thanks for posting this.
Jesus specifically said he was God: “I and the Father are one” (John 10:30). That should just about settle it.
I was listening to several preachers last Sunday afternoon on the television--I suppose half a dozen of them--and they were all making suggestions about how people should react in life. One guy was talking about how to become the person that the person you want is looking for if youre single. And all kinds of suggestions about dont get physical with someone youre dating, get out of debt, all these--you know, power-point preaching. Somebody said, Power-point preaching is like smoking a big cigar; the only one who enjoys it is the one whos doing it. But anyway, I endured it.
And all kinds of instructions, you know, on a practical level was accurate and this went on and on. And I was thinking to myself, Why? Im sitting there and saying, Why? Why? Why would I do that? And I turned to another preacher, and he was saying, This is what you need to do when youre in trouble. This is what you need to do, and thats what you need to do. And I kept asking myself, Why? Why would these people do this, because you said so? Because the story was funny? Because the illustration was clear? Why?
You know, the preacher can make suggestions till hes blue in the face and the preacher can pile up the even the biblical commands as to how we ought to behave, but nothing happens unless theres an internal motivation. So what is that? Its loving Christ. And where does that come from? That comes from knowing Christ. And how do you get to know Christ? Through the Word of Christ dwelling in you richly. And that word is that which is revealed in Holy Scripture, Old and New.
If were a little overboard on Christ, youll have to excuse us, were just following the manual. When Paul in Romans 13:10 said, Love is the fulfillment of the whole law, he was essentially saying what the first commandment is, Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. You can forget about the rules because youll be driven by that pure love.
Thank you!
And clearly stated here as well:
Collosians 2:
6 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.
8 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.
Thank you.
Like you tagline:)

In John chapter 1, later in the chapter, when Philip found Nathaniel, he said to Nathaniel that I have met Christ. And this is how he referred to it. He said, We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote. Come and see. The Lord Jesus is not only the theme of the New Testament, but He is the theme of the Old Testament. We had a glimpse of that, a profound glimpse of it, in Isaiah 53, and on Sunday nights were going to take a look at Christ in the Old Testament coming up and seeing some of those revelations concerning Him.
So, according to Revelation 19:10, Jesus is the theme of prophecy. That is He is the theme of Old Testament prophecy and clearly the theme of New Testament preaching. That is why the apostle Paul said, We preach Christ, Christ only, Christ alone, and Christ crucified.
Jesus told the disciples that the entire OT was about HIM ...not Mary ... HIM
I don’t subscribe to Christianity, but I am a big proponent of
John 4:24
“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”
That’s what Jews have been telling the world for the past 3,000+ years. He is incorporeal, indivisible, infinite and eternal, omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient with no shape or form. The only thing that can unite humanity is Spirit which in One and a perfect Unity.
The biggest lie that the Adversary tells mankind is that he can be God or a god and worshiping any man is considered idolatry.
Supporting statements from the Torah (aka The Five Books of Moses from the Old Testament) is
Numbers 23:19
“God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?”
Deuteronomy 4:15
“You saw no form of any kind the day the LORD spoke to you at Horeb out of the fire. Therefore watch yourselves very carefully,”
that is to say, you cannot conceive of Him as having any form because He is neither a body nor a bodily force.
Let’s consult the Judge and prophet, Samuel.
1 Samuel 15:29
“He who is the Glory of Israel does not lie or change his mind; for he is not a human being, that he should change his mind.”
How about the prophet Hosea?
Hosea 11:9
“I will not carry out my fierce anger, nor will I devastate Ephraim again. For I am God, and not a man— the Holy One among you. I will not come against their cities.”
And for the oldest story in the Tanach (aka the Bible)
Job 9:32
“For he is not a man, as I am, that I might answer him, that we should come to trial together.”
And for the followers of the Christian’s rabbi
Psalm 146:2-3
While I live will I praise HaShem: I will sing praises unto my G-d while I have any being.
Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.
Indeed. But who is quoted above?
Isaiah 9:
6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
God in that context means judge.
A translation error. Oh well.
“The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.”
Wait a minute. Which has precedence? Spirit or matter. What put the universe into being? Spirit or matter?
So if we interpret the “Lord” as a man then there is a physical man commanding non-physical beings (’hosts’ are armies of angels). Mmmmkay!
“But who is quoted above?”
A Jew who knows that God is defined only as Spirit.
Thanks! ;-)
The Hebrew has “el.” Firmly within the context.
You are arguing with your own presuppositions.
Yeshayah 61 Orthodox Jewish Bible (OJB)
61 The Ruach [Hakodesh] of Adonoi Hashem is upon me [Moshiach], because Hashem mashach (hath anointed) me [Moshiach] to preach besurah (good news, glad tidings) unto the anavim (meek, poor, oppressed); He hath sent me to bind up the nishberei lev (the brokenhearted), to proclaim deror (freedom, liberty) for the shevuyim ([Golus] captives), and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
2 To proclaim the Shnat Ratzon LHashem (the year of the L-rds favor and grace), and the Yom Nakam LEloheinu (our G-ds Day of Vengeance); to comfort all the avelim (mourners);
3 To grant unto Avelei Tziyon (Mourners of Zion), giving unto them a flower wreath instead of ashes, the shemen sasson (oil of joy) instead of avel (mourning), the garment of tehillah (praise) for the ruach of keheh (fainting, a heavy spirit); that they might be called Eilei HaTzedek (Oaks of Righteousness), the planting of Hashem, that He might be glorified.
4 And they shall rebuild charvot olam (the old ruins), they shall raise up the shomemot rishonim (former desolations), and they shall make new the cities of chorev (ruin), the shomemot (desolations) dor vador.
5 And zarim shall stand and shepherd your tzon, and bnei nekhar shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers.
6 But ye shall be named the Kohanim of Hashem; men shall call you the Mesharetim (Ministers) of Eloheinu; ye shall eat the chayil Goyim, (wealth of Nations) and in their kavod shall ye boast.
