Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams |
No Steven. If you want to criticize Catholics you should at least understand what you're criticizing.
It sounds so innocent, right up to the point that you either realize it's sin or realize they can't hear you and you're wasting your time, or realize that you aren't just asking for prayer. 'oh st. Etho, heal this wart on my buttocks..' It's funny; but, it's also illustrative. It's sin.
My only intention in asking you whether or not you loved the people on this forum, and were trying to love them more, was to help you. If you want to take it as me somehow trying to act superior, fine. Your choice. Here is the post that sparked my initial comment to you:

Get's pretty quiet when their defense falls out from under them. All that time building up the misdirections and when the smoke blows clear, they've no more defense other than they have decided to beleive what men taught them rather than what scripture states. That isn't Christianity - that is philosophy and paganism.

This despite the fact that RobbyS had posted on the topic an hour earlier on a Saturday afternoon. I don't see how you were defending Scripture with this post. IMO, the room got quiet and you drew a conclusion about why. IMO, the conclusion you drew doesnt speak well about the state of your judgement at the time you posted. I posted to you later that evening to try to help you see this. You dont agree. Fine. Personally, I struggle against the sin of pride and lack of love every single hour every single day and appreciate it when God through others brings it to my attention. If you are not afflicted with the same sin, then Im grateful to God.
I dont see where my posting about this anymore is profitable for either of us, so Ill drop the subject. If you want to have the last word, go right ahead.

That's easy - The trade language: Greek. The largest Empire on Earth was Egypt prior to it's conquer by Rome. But even the Egyptians learned to deal in Greek. It was the trade language of the world. Today it's equivalent is English.
Beautiful. Wonk youre a mind reader.
I understood enough to know I needed to leave. Thanx for listening.
I can't judge and now I can't critisize. What can I do oh great one? Lick your boots?
Sorry, but I can't give you a pass on this.
You have been telling us over and over that you only ask Mary to pray for you when you pray to her.
This prayer asks Mary to bestow gifts on you. How can this not be asking for more that for Mary to pray for you. Your silence is speaking volumes. The "love" answer doesn't float Robby.

You can do anything you want. Remember, we all have free will. All I said was if you want to criticize Catholics you should understand what youre criticizing. Based on your responses, you still dont know.
What can I do oh great one? Lick your boots?
What you can do is grow up.
I understand what I critcize. You're just programmed for arrogance.
What you can do is grow up.
Likewise.

How can I trust God so completely? What if he won't come through for me?
Thoughts like these, so familiar to us, may have been running through the mind of King Ahaz when Isaiah told him: "Ask a sign of the Lord your God" (Isaiah 7:11).

On the surface, Ahaz's response seemed humble: He didn't want to test God. But Ahaz's refusal to ask for a sign revealed not humility but a reluctance to place his fate and the fate of his people in the hands of the Lord. Powerful armies stood poised to attack Jerusalem, and Ahaz was afraid. He was contemplating making alliances with Babylon or Egypt to help defeat these foes, but Isaiah told him that God would do the fighting and that alliances with unbelieving nations would fail.
Isaiah also told the king that he could ask for any sign he chose, as a guarantee. But Ahaz resisted. To ask for a sign would obligate him to God and call for an end to negotiations with other countries. What an affront! God had been so good to Jerusalem for so long, and still Ahaz couldn't bring himself to trust in him! God gave Ahaz a sign anyway, a sign that received its ultimate fulfillment when the angel Gabriel visited Mary: A young woman would bear a son (Isaiah 7:14).
God doesn't want us to trudge along on our own power. He loves us too much to watch us languishing, resigned to our fate as we try to solve our problems on our own. That's why he sent his Son to us in the first place: to raise us up to a new life. Let's not be like Ahaz, resigned to the status quo, assuming that we are destined forever to struggle with sin or to groan at painful memories. Jesus wants to transform every area of our lives! So let's surrender ourselves to him, believing that he has come to be born in our hearts.
"Lord, your love takes my breath away! I believe that you really do hear my prayers and see my need. Thank you for sending your Son into the world for me."

Have a great day, everyone!

I know some of the cable companies have had bad problems with their cable modem service. My brother has cable modem access at home, and has been happy with it. In Wisconsin, deregulation is forcing the cable companies to share their lines the same way the phone company does, and you can now get cable modem service through a provider other than the local cable monopoly. Another good alternative is ISDN. Its not as fast as cable, but a good deal faster than dialup, and probably costs around the same as cable service. And its much more available than DSL.
I don't think so.
I agree.
