Fox News host Greg Gutfeld is out with a new book entitled “The Joy of Hate: How to Triumph Over Whiners in the Age of Phony Outrage.” In full and fair disclosure, I haven’t actually read it. As clashes between Egyptian police forces led by Muslim Brotherhood president Mohammed Morsi and Egyptian protesters angry at Morsi’s power grab escalated, the US embassy in Cairo weighed in. You may remember the embassy’s last embarrassing tweeting escapade on 9/11, when embassy staff tweeted apologies for a YouTube video even as the embassy was stormed. SAN JACINTO (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a paraglider was killed Sunday after striking some live power lines in San Jacinto. The accident occurred Sunday afternoon before 1:40 p.m., according to officials. The unidentified paraglider was in a remote mountainside area of Riverside County — near Soboba Road — at the time of the accident. Riverside County Fire spokeswoman Jody Hagemann said a rescue helicopter flew to the paraglider’s rescue but he died of his injuries.

Scientists in Denmark have designed a new sensor to detect cells that over-express folate receptors, including cancer cells. Jaime Castillo-León from the Technical University of Denmark and colleagues' sensor consists of an electrochemical platform composed of graphene and peptide nanotubes with folic acid.Cancer cells have a high requirement for folic acid as it is necessary for their metabolism, so the cells have 500 times more folate receptors compared with a healthy cell, explains Castillo-León. West Virginia Republican Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito will announce Monday morning that she is running in 2014 for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Democrat Jay Rockefeller. The United States says a conference on banning nuclear weapons in the Middle East will not be held because of current conditions in the region. Syrian rebels say they have captured a government helicopter base near Damascus as they try to close in on President Bashar al-Assad's seat of power in the capital. A video released by Syrian activists on Sunday appears to show anti-Assad rebels roaming around the Marj al-Sultan air base, about 15 kilometers east of Damascus, after they launched an assault the previous day.
