  • Stephon Marbury Comments On Vick

What’s confusing me here is that you don’t seem to recognize sadism, and the fact that there is an inherent sickness to getting enjoyment out of inflicting pain that goes beyond inflicting death. People can bicker day and night as to whether torture or execution is more cruel, but there is a sickness about inflicting pain and taking pleasure out of watching animals suffer that is different than even hunting. I’m surprised that you don’t recognize it. Also, it should be noted that numerous people DO consider torture a worse fate for animals than a quick death, so it doesn’t really work as a mantra. Quite simply, it’s not an indisputable fact, regardless of the situation, and it doesn’t work to dispute “dog-fighting is cruelty”.

Anyway, I do think it’s a key point that you view death as the ultimate cruelty for an animal. Even if it’s true, you are almost deliberately ignoring the fact of sadism and its existence and the nature of it in the case of Vick (and any case in which an animal is tortured before death) because of your insistence that “death is the worst cruelty”. Maybe it is. But the reason and nature of things arises again; there is just a plain difference between killing animals for a living and inflicting unnecessary pain upon them, and those who inflict unnecessary pain on an animal for their own enjoyment when it is preventable are truly sick. By pain, I mean torture, because sadism is an enjoyment in inflicting pain, not death. If you can’t recognize that, then I guess I have nothing more to say.

I’ve seen “Oldboy”, and I do agree with this. It’s violent, yes, but its story has been played out in countless films over decades: a guy has his life ruined by an evil power, and seeks revenge. I don’t recall any sort of themes in the film relating to mass murder.

Every baseball thread gets someone who preaches this same stuff. I understand your problem with it, but it gets old. We get why you all stopped watching.

No offense, but the comments of this type usually have little to do with the discussion at hand (this thread is regarding Joe Torre), just the person ripping Major League Baseball. There are still plenty of us who DO care about it.

Pushed him over and kicked him in the testicles. The kid may have been out of bounds, but the minister's reaction seems unjustifiable. Not a sissy here; I just don't think getting hit in the face with a dodgeball justifies kicking the person in the balls, especially for someone who's 25.

Thank goodness for Montana. I was nervous about calling that upset. I guess I should be happy that Tennessee won, but I doubt anyone would've called that upset. I was rooting for Winthrop.

Hmm, I can't say I know what the problem is. Anyone else know how to solve this? Maybe you need to create a seperate team name before joining? Look around for that.

No DUH? Hitler probably also said "This is good coffee", are you going to swear off coffee forever just because Hitler liked it?

That comparison hardly works to write off what Sakic was saying. Hitler's taste in coffee and his ideologies about religion are vastly different things.

Regardless, he chose a moronic way of making his point. I wish people like Gumbel could say their points and be done with it. He doesn't like the Winter Games. Simple as that. Big deal. One either likes the Olympics, and doesn't care what he has to say about them, or dislikes the Olympics, in which case I don't see the point of all the ranting and railing, since it's easir to just not watch them.

He tries to get some wit out of that or make a statement, and he makes an idiot at best out of himself.

I can vouch for that. The only time I've had serious trouble getting something from Netflix was when I tried to get "Cowboy Bebop", first session. I've only had two occasions of bad disks. The turnaround has consistently been no more than three days from my shipping the movie back to getting the next one.

Is this news troubling at all? Yeah. I don't like to hear it. But Netflix has always worked for me and their service has been reliable for almost two years now.

  • Prayer request for my mom

    A long overdue update:

Thank you all so much for your prayers. My mom celebrated her 49th birthday today, at home and in good health.

She is, amazingly, without cancer. I don't know what happened, but the doctors rushed their diagnosis, and for some reason that baffles us informed us for fact the she had cancer, even going so far as to assume that the blood pressure related stroke-like occurence was evidence that it had spread to her brain. I can tell you all now, with great thanks and happiness, that my mom has no cancer. However, she nearly did die in the hospital, a fact the doctors didn't inform us on, and we only learned when my mom was released a few weeks ago.

It took me so long to update you all because of the after effects of the hospital stay and the illness on my mom, which were a horrible mental trauma on her. I got wrapped up in that, and numerous other things going on.

As it stands, she had a life threatening case of pneumonia that nearly did kill her. She said afterwards that she could feel the prayers being sent her way. Believe that or not, but I do believe it. I believe that all the prayers sent my mom's way did save her.

I thank everyone who prayed, or even just thought of my mom.

Without a doubt, the White Sox were the best team in baseball. They just steamrolled over everyone this postseason. 11-1 with 8 straight wins to close it out? That speaks for itself.

    Congrats on your team's win!

    Well, some more info today:

Just so you all know, my mom was initially hospitalized with a very small blood leakage in the brain, and kept at the hospital with her lung illness, and in treating the lung illness the doctors found cancer. At first, the doctors were concerned that the blood leakage was cancer related, but we learned today that they no longer believe so. They still don't know what caused the leakage (which was minor, but was causing my mom to hallucinate and cause faintness), and there isn't %100 certainty that it isn't cancer related, but that's the belief.

They believe that the cancer is on the lung (which I hadn't known before), but the hope is that it is isolated and contained to one lung. Doctors are working on the best treatments for when she recovers from her respiratory illness, so we'll be praying some more for a fast recovery from her illness so that doctors can get to work on the cancer.

Thanks again for all the prayers and good thoughts. There were so many potentially worse pieces of news that we could've recieved that we're all sort of relieved that the news today, considering the circumstances, was good,

Well, word from the doctors is that my mom is on the early road to recovery from her respiratory illness, which is the first step getting fully better. Any positive news about her condition is good.

Anyway, I won't lie, I felt much better today than I did yesterday. After the initial shock, I do realize the blessings; my family, the fact that my mom is in good medical care, and that she has numerous family, friends, and others who care who are praying.

I'll continue to stay hopeful, and I ask the rest of you to keep praying. God bless.

Let me say that I and my entire family are so grateful for all your support and prayers. I have no new updates on my mom's condition, but I'll try and keep you posted. I do know that the current priority is beating this respiratory illness as fast as possible. The toughest thing is that the hospital my mom is at is in Boston, 50 miles away, so I and my sisters and brother haven't had the most oppotune chances for visiting her, since she has often been sedated. My dad has been driving almost contantly between home and Boston, and this has all been especially hard on him.

Please, keep praying, and God bless.
