The confusion over what is conservative and liberal is in full bloom. The liberal media will phrase the issue of the day (contraception, welfare, unemployment, etc) in liberal terms. That means they will say conservatives want to force people to do XXX or forbid people from doing YYY. That is where the mistake is made. Don't accept the premise by denying it! And don’t start talking about fixing a liberal program so that you become the fall guy. There are fundamental differences between conservatives and liberals that should be the focus of attention. Go to the basic purpose or intention...

I'm __________ __________ and I oppose proposition 2 for the following reasons. Stem cells are obtained from several sources, but the two in question here are umbilical cords from live births and from the remains of destroyed embryos. At this time, most umbilical cords are disposed of as medical waste. The supply of stem cells available for research and treatment can be increased 100 fold by very modest efforts of increasing the number of umbilical cords obtained for this purpose. At this time there are hundreds of successful treatments that have been accomplished with stem cells but 100% of these...

On Taxes, Stability and Boiling Frogs The problem of U.S. jobs moving overseas will not be fixed by limiting free trade; the problem will be fixed by changing the U.S. tax structure that is causing the current unstable economic condition. The current economic climate in the U.S. has an imbalance where domestic businesses are carrying a large cost burden from taxes, lawsuits and regulations and trying to compete with companies without these burdens. The unstable economic condition comes as individual domestic companies fail or close, and the burden shifts to the remaining companies. The costs will not go away just...
  • Abu Graib and legal drugs, a question

I heard from two different sources in two days that there have been some reports that the army reservists working at Abu Graib were being prescribed anti-depressants because of the high stress of their jobs. Now I am not saying this is true, but I am asking if anyone here at FR has any contacts to find this kind of info out. I know in the case of those kids at Columbine, it took over a year for the info that those kids were on similar drugs to come out. It was all quashed because of doctor/patient confidentiality. I think...

Lawsuit Winners Lose the Tax Battle ·  The Supreme Court rules unanimously that plaintiffs must pay levies on awards without first subtracting legal fees.   By David G. Savage, Times Staff Writer WASHINGTON — The winners of big lawsuits may find themselves losers at tax time, thanks to a Supreme Court ruling Monday. The justices, agreeing with the Internal Revenue Service, ruled that all the money plaintiffs won in lawsuits must be included in their gross incomes, even if a large portion of it went to lawyers.

Now that CBS has exposed to the world how the partisan media will act in the new McCain-Feingold playground, I think it is time for some pubbie to congress to put in a bill to kill that stupid law. STRIKE WHILE THE FRAUD IS HOT!

"Romantic" is not the first word that comes to mind when referring to Robert McNamara, but the 88-year-old former defense secretary is a dove when it comes to love. McNamara will wed his Italian-born sweetheart, Diana Masieri Byfield, next week in a ceremony in Italy
  • Income taxes - The fool's game

Income Taxes - The fool’s game The political season is heating up again and the politicians are busy playing the fool’s game of appealing to our darker instincts. They call on us to tax the rich and everyone cheers, except a few that are immediately labeled as selfish and thereafter ignored. In the end, the politicians usually get their way by convincing the majority to raise income taxes on the rich. The reason it is a fool’s game is the sad fact that the income tax operates as a hidden fixed cost on domestic business. If you put a large...

Does Kerry have a memorial in a museum in Ho chi min city [Saigon]? I heard that mentioned in passing today on the radio and I think I missed something. if Kerry has, or had, a memorial to him and anti war activists in Vietnam then THAT would be big news IMHO. Does anyone know the bonafides on this?

  • How to fix the problem of off shoring

The problem of off shoring jobs isn't fixed by limiting free trade, the problem is fixed by changing our tax STRUCTURE that is causing an UNSTABLE economic condition. By our emphasis on the income tax to fund government, we have put the burden on US residents to pay for ALL the costs created by government activity. Those costs become folded into our cost of living and become part of the cost of anything made here. Meanwhile some businesses have figured out they can avoid all those costs and keep their prices low by going outside of our borders. In 1913,...

Brief question. I have been having great trouble connecting to Freerepublic for about 10 days. Some of it is probably my changing cable company and some may be for other reasons, I don't know. I remember seeing somewhere that there is an alternate site, I think on yahoo, that I could look at to see what's going on. Does anyone have that site's address?
  • Daschle Christmas Vacation watch

After watching Newt & Sean discussing how Daschle, [$175K/yr] and wife [$250K/yr] will have a wonderful christmas while he single-handedly stopped the economic stimulus package from coming to a vote that would pass, I got an idea. How about starting a Daschle-watch over the holidays. We'll need freeper helpers from his home state to give us updates on how much enjoyment they are having while the rest of the country sloggs through the misery of a dull economy. We are not little kids and we can survive this crappy period, but the contrast would really get people to see what ...

I have a question for the forum. Yesterday on FOX two corgressmen were being interviewed about the Florida mess. The Democrat repeated the talking points threat that these ballots WILL be counted eventually by someone using the FOIA. The pubbie, I think his name is Blount, said No! The FOIA does not apply to ballots. After this mess is over the ballots are sealed and destroyed sealed. This sounds like a refreshing dose of common sense, but I have not heard it since and have heard the democrat threat repeated several times. Question: Is this pubbie congressman right?

It is an outrage that partisan folks, from both sides, are demanding the right to assign non votes to one side or the other. WE THE PEOPLE have a right to have our vote accepted just as we cast it. I have been voting for over three decades and in every election so far there are some ballot positions that I have left blank, sometimes because I don't know/don't care but frequently because I do know them and will not vote for either one. In this contest, a non vote is effectively identical to voting third party without the nightmare ...

Freepers, isn't it time for the environmental Whacko picks for prez? Here are a few thought starters that occurred to me as I cut the lawn today: GORE An extremely violent, horrible act, nature at it's absolute worst. The agressive attack and killing of an innocent creature of nature, and for what reason? The eating of meat! BUSH Part of the natural order of things. Beautifies the landscape and prevents soil erosion. Provides homes and protection for birds and small animals trying not to be attacked and GORED by predators. With the help of sunlight, can convert polluted air into ...
