  • Trump's Big Lewandowski Problem

    03/12/2016 12:18:32 PM PST · by Windy City Conservative · 131 replies
It happened after he had walked by, and it may well be that the people involved have not told him what really happened, that they're saying, "Nah, she's making it up! She's exaggerating. It didn't happen, or it did happen but it wasn't Corey Lewandowski that did it," or what have you. But, I mean, there's all kinds of witnesses and evidence here. People were running audiotape of it. There's some video, I think. She's got the bruises on her arms. Politico has run, I think, the audio and transcript of it. So it happened. And Trump last night said...
  • Rubio: If Trump's Our Nominee, GOP Will Be 'Defined By' Violence (False Headline)

    03/12/2016 9:02:24 AM PST · by Windy City Conservative · 58 replies
"Presidents cannot say whatever's on their minds," he told a small crowd during a Tampa Bay-area rally. "You don't say it because it's wrong to do it — every society must be governed by rules of discourse. Once you lose the rules of discourse, you lose the discourse." "If he's our nominee, this is what the Republican party's going to be defined by. This is what it's going to mean to be a conservative," Rubio cautioned.
  • Marco Rubio Pushed for Immigration Reform With Conservative Media

    02/27/2016 6:33:55 PM PST · by Windy City Conservative · 48 replies
New York Times ^ | Jason Horowitz
A few weeks after Senator Marco Rubio joined a bipartisan push for an immigration overhaul in 2013, he arrived alongside Senator Chuck Schumer at the executive dining room of News Corporation’s Manhattan headquarters for dinner. Their mission was to persuade Rupert Murdoch, the owner of the media empire, and Roger Ailes, the chairman and chief executive of its Fox News division, to keep the network’s on-air personalities from savaging the legislation and give it a fighting chance at survival. Mr. Murdoch, an advocate of immigration reform, and Mr. Ailes, his top lieutenant and the most powerful man in conservative television,...
  • Mitch McConnell encourages Senators to run ads against Trump in General Election

    02/27/2016 9:32:01 AM PST · by Windy City Conservative · 122 replies
While still hopeful that Mr. Rubio might prevail, Mr. McConnell has begun preparing senators for the prospect of a Trump nomination, assuring them that, if it threatened to harm them in the general election, they could run negative ads about Mr. Trump to create space between him and Republican senators seeking re-election. Mr. McConnell has raised the possibility of treating Mr. Trump’s loss as a given and describing a Republican Senate to voters as a necessary check on a President Hillary Clinton, according to senators at the lunches.
  • Rubio: If We Prove Illegal Immigration Is Under Control, Americans Will Respond In Responsible Way

    02/23/2016 8:02:02 AM PST · by Windy City Conservative · 56 replies
Bill O'Reilly grilled Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio on what his policy will be on illegal immigration and immigration in general. The candidate appeared on Monday's broadcast of FOX News Channel's The O'Reilly Factor. Rubio said his immigration plan, once the U.S.-Mexico border is secure, "depends on what the American people will support." Rubio says once "we prove to the American people" that illegal immigration is under control, he believes Americans will respond in a "very rational, reasonable and responsible way."
  • Beating Trump in Debate (NRO Delusional with Rage)

    02/13/2016 7:23:01 AM PST · by Windy City Conservative · 163 replies
I have a little bit of advice for Cruz and Rubio tomorrow when it comes to defeating Trump. Some of the advice is tactical, but the more important advice is strategic. Attack Trump early, relentlessly, on everything, and never, ever stop. The tactical advice is that you should stop saying that Trump is for single-payer. That is too bloodless. Say that Trump was for a government-owned, and government-rationed, health care monopoly. Also try to work in the argument that Trump would give us the corruption of the Clintons with the huge government of Bernie Sanders. • Can moderators be fair having called Trump a 'witless ape'? (National Review Hates Trump

    11/04/2015 9:50:03 AM PST · by Windy City Conservative · 40 replies
For example, on June 16, when Trump announced his candidacy, NR roving correspondent Kevin D. Williamson analyzed the event in a piece headlined "Witless Ape Rides Escalator." Williamson called Trump "the most ridiculous buffoon with the worst taste since Caligula." Also: 'a reality-television grotesque with his plastic-surgery-disaster wife, grunting like a baboon about our country's 'brand' and his own vast wealth." And: "not just an ass, but an ass of exceptionally intense asininity." And, of course, a "witless ape." In August, NR writer Charles C.W. Cooke called Trump a "virus." "A plague is sweeping the land, gathering victims of all...
  • The Amnesty Team of Gutierrez and Ryan

    10/23/2015 8:29:16 AM PDT · by Windy City Conservative · 13 replies
But the other star was Paul Ryan. The filmmakers wanted to follow him around too but, in the narrator’s words, “Ryan’s office wanted to stay under the radar.” Watch the film and you can see why. The Republican that Gutierrez is most frequently shown conferring with is Mario Diaz-Balart, but Ryan is invoked, in almost every scene, as the GOP driving force behind the amnesty push.
  • Report: Boehner phones Paul Ryan, asks him to run for Speaker

    10/08/2015 1:53:35 PM PDT · by Windy City Conservative · 69 replies
Hopefully that’s just a bluff Boehner is using to twist the arms of House conservatives who’d otherwise object to another center-right Speaker. Line up behind Ryan, Boehner is saying, or else I’ll stick around and make your lives even more miserable. What his leverage is in doing that isn’t immediately clear to me; wasn’t the whole reason he quit in the first place because he wasn’t sure he had the votes to survive the challenge being led by Rep. Mark Meadows to oust him? But maybe this little nudge will be enough to convince the Freedom Caucus to give Ryan...
  • Chicago Archbishop Blase Cupich calls for compassion toward gay people

    06/29/2015 10:17:42 AM PDT · by Windy City Conservative · 42 replies
Archbishop Blase Cupich of the Archdiocese of Chicago has asked his congregation to be compassionate toward gay people following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision last week to legalize gay marriage nationwide. Cupich said in a news release that Catholic Church teachings call on members to avoid unjust discrimination of gay people. He said the respect must be real and reflective of the Church’s commitment to accept all people.
  • Cupich, Rauner press for immigration reform deal

But it was Archbishop Blase Cupich who delivered the most forceful remarks, saying that if lawmakers disagree with Democratic President Barack Obama's executive actions to prevent deportation of those who are here illegally, "then Congress should supersede them by passing comprehensive immigration reform legislation." "Trying to block the president's executive order ... is not a serious proposal, nor an adult way to deal with this issue," said Cupich, who has made the issue a focus in his first months on the job in Chicago.
  • Support Waning, Romney Decides Against 2016 Bid (Big donors rule the GOP)

    01/30/2015 8:43:09 PM PST · by Windy City Conservative · 17 replies
The campaign to deny Mr. Romney another chance began almost immediately after he mused to donors at a Friday get-together in New York City on Jan. 9 that he was open to the possibility of another run. By that Sunday afternoon, William Oberndorf, a prominent California investor who supported Mr. Romney in both of his previous presidential campaigns, had emailed a group of 52 powerful Republicans, including former Secretary of State George Shultz, the investor Charles Schwab and the Michigan billionaire Betsy DeVos with a blunt message: we need to support someone else.
  • Marlin Stutzman Claims He Was Hoodwinked (Boehner tricks him on CRomnibus)

    12/11/2014 9:47:27 PM PST · by Windy City Conservative · 58 replies
After the “cromnibus” passed Thursday night, Rep. Marlin Stutzman, R-Ind., made the rather shocking claim that GOP leadership convinced him to vote for the rule allowing the bill to get to the floor by telling him they were pulling the bill anyway. “Earlier today, I supported the Rule because I was informed by Leadership that the CROmnibus was dead and a short term CR would take its place,” Stutzman said in a news release. “I was very surprised and even more disappointed to see the CROmnibus back on the floor. The American people deserve better.” The rule passed the House...
  • House to vote on short-term funding bill

    12/09/2014 1:19:50 PM PST · by Windy City Conservative · 13 replies
Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member on the Senate Appropriations Committee, said the negotiations on the spending measure could “drag on” beyond Tuesday. He said he hoped to go home Friday, Saturday or Sunday. “I don't think I'm going home Thursday night, but that would be nice,” he said. The short-term continuing resolution, or CR, could fund the government for two or three days, keeping the lights on past the Thursday deadline when funding is slated to run out. That should give Congress enough time to pass a larger government-funding package that would fund most of the government through the...
  • Trent Lott's advice to Mitch McConnell: 'Deal sternly' with GOP obstructionists

From a former Republican Senate majority leader to an incoming one, Trent Lott has this advice for Mitch McConnell: Deal “sternly” with renegade conservatives and quickly “coopt” new GOP senators so they don’t drift over to the obstructionist side of the party.
  • Obama turns to McConnell to secure his legacy

    11/18/2014 7:40:20 AM PST · by Windy City Conservative · 21 replies
“A grown-up” is how one White House aide described McConnell. It’s not as if Obama and others in the White House have forgotten their history with McConnell, but he looks better than other potential partners. The president’s relationship with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s caucus has hit the rocks. He finds House Speaker John Boehner tedious and unreliable: Too many false starts and acrimonious endings have marred their relationship. House Democrats, for their part, are increasingly full of complaints about the president, but there will be so few of them come January that they’ll hardly matter. That marks a dramatic...
  • Business Leader's plea to GOP: You won, now fix immigration

    11/11/2014 11:49:13 AM PST · by Windy City Conservative · 48 replies
As one who supported the new majority, I believe Republicans, regardless of what the president does, must not waste their tremendous victory. We must show Latino and Asian voters that the Republican Party stands for all Americans. I urge Republican leaders and the president to get together on as much of this as they can to advance legislation before the president acts through an executive order. I threw my heart and soul (and wallet) into immigration about three years ago because of students from the charter schools that my wife Jeanne and I sponsor. Many of our students are undocumented....
  • Boehner may Blow up Recess (Force vote on Border Bill)

    07/31/2014 1:11:42 PM PDT · by Windy City Conservative · 36 replies
House Republicans may force the House to stay in session until they get enough votes to pass the border package. “We’ll stay until we vote,” House Oversight and Government Reform Committee chairman Darrell Issa (R., Calif.) told reporters staking out a special GOP conference meeting. A house GOP leadership aide said the decision hadn’t been made yet. Another House Republican told NRO, 45 min into the meeting, that there was “no sign anyone has changed so far.”
  • Immigration Hawks Prepare for Showdown on House Border Bill (McCain Amnesty Aide writes House Bill)

    07/29/2014 7:38:00 AM PDT · by Windy City Conservative · 38 replies
The latest critique circulating among opponents of the package is that Rebecca Tallent, a former staffer to Senator John McCain (R. Ariz.) who currently works for House Speaker John Boehner (R., Ohio), has played a significant role in drafting the Granger proposal. “[Tallent] is writing the House plan for Kay Granger,” a well-placed congressional source. “She more than almost anyone has her fingerprints on President Obama’s immigration plans and is very close with the amnesty community, with the White House, with Democratic offices.”
  • Nevada Republicans Drop Pro-Life, Traditional Marriage Stands From Party Platform

Several hundred delegates of the Nevada Republican Party approved a party platform April 19 that drops both its pro-life plank and support for the definition of marriage as a union of one man and one woman. Nevada Republican Party Chairman Michael McDonald told the Las Vegas Review-Journal he thought the party platform was “about inclusion, not exclusion.” “This is where the party is going,” he said.
