Roxy Music were an English art-rock group formed by art school graduate Bryan Ferry (vocals and keyboards), electronic music pioneer Brian Eno (synthesizer and 'treatments'), and others in 1971... A mere 12 months later, the band had attained huge popular -and critical- success in the UK and Europe that lasted right-on-through the 1970s and into early 80s, beginning with the Top-10 debut album Roxy Music in 1972.  Roxy Music was an astonishingly talented and innovative group, both in sound and trailblazing 'glam' stage show.  The band was highly influential, a significant source of inspiration to much of the English punk scene and a model for...
  • Immigration Officials Advise Educators on Deferred Action

School records will be among the key documents that young undocumented immigrants must submit in their requests for deferred action, the new immigration policy that allows individuals who arrived in the United States as children to seek relief from deportation and gain work permits. Applicants have to demonstrate, among other criteria, that they are currently enrolled in school, have graduated from high school, or have obtained a GED. But school records will also help many potential beneficiaries prove another key qualification: continuous presence in the U.S. for the last five years. A high school transcript documenting four years of schooling...

I live in CT. I lived thru Irene and the freak October snowstorm that left parts of the region without power for over a week in some cases. The supposedly hearty New England residents were crying within two days how they didn't have power and cable. I decided to take a look at the Facebook page of one of the major cable companies in the path of Isaac. All these screen shots were taken around 6:30 PM Eastern time on 8/29. http://imgur.com/a/0sVS0
  • If It has Arnold in It, Don’t Remake It.

Actually, I would appreciate if people didn’t remake anything. Some originality would be nice.  While, I would appreciate no remakes, this goes double for ones with Arnold Schwarzenegger. It as actually quite interesting how many of Arnold’s films were science fiction or fantasy based.  It is also interesting how every remake of one of them is a complete flop.  The latest edition of Total Recall going to the remake scrap-heap is prime example.  Great CGI, No originality and No Arnold equals epic fail.  It seems the original which was recently called ‘cheesy’ by some critic did far better at the box office than the new one which...

This one is for you, Jim Thompson! By hahyrningur Or maybe it’s for Jim Robinson. The left can’t seem to keep them apart. Anyway, Jim (Thompson or Robinson) runs the conservative forum Free Republic which for many years has been one of the main lightning rods for socialist, islamist and nazist hate in America. Denizens of that forum are called Freepers. I am won. Over the years, the Freepers have chalked up some pretty impressive and decisive victories. Remember “Sore/Loserman”, the graphic that played a huge role in defeating the Gore/Lieberman ticket? Freerepublic. Ripping the cloak of lies off Dan...

Gay and lesbian advocates teamed up with Maryland's largest Latino and immigrant rights group on Tuesday, hoping to build support for November ballot questions to allow same-sex marriage and in-state tuition for illegal immigrants who have attended a Maryland high school and whose parents have paid taxes.

Republicans are taking the podium at their convention today, and millions of people will start paying attention to this race for the first time. The message they'll hear will mirror the distortions Governor Romney has based his entire campaign on -- amplified 10,000 times. They're going to talk about the economy, but they won't mention that their $5 trillion plan gives big tax breaks to people who don't need them. They won't mention their plan to turn Medicare into a voucher system that could cost seniors up to $6,400 more per year. They'll talk a lot about strengthening the middle...

Several Inland immigration activists took part in a demonstration at the state Capitol in Sacramento Tuesday urging Gov. Jerry Brown to sign the Trust Act into law. (here are some photos from KUVS-TV in Sacramento; the story is in Spanish). The bill, which cleared its final legislative hurdle last week with Senate passage, would prevent police from handing over detainees arrested for non-violent crimes to federal immigration officials for possible deportation. Immigration holds could still be put on people charged or convicted of serious or violent felonies. Riverside and San Bernardino counties are among more than 3,000 jurisdictions nationwide that...

You may not agree with what Heinlein says here but he is speaking directly across the years to Ron Paul and his people at the Republican National Convention.

Update: I hear that the first issue below has been pulled from the table to avoid a fight. That does not mean that it cannot be brought up at the convention and there is also still the second important issue below that needs to be defeated! WARNING! Romney and Moderate Republicans want Control over who the national delegates are and what is in the Republican Party Platform and Rules! They want to take this power away from the states. This is an attempt to mold the Republican platform to his moderate values and also to force state delegates to be...

The pundits and talking heads are talking about how badly we're being outraised by the other side. You've heard it from us, too. Three months in a row, Mitt Romney and the Republican Party have trounced our fundraising totals. And, along with allied outside groups, they're using that cash to try to obliterate our side on the airwaves, outspending us in some battleground states by margins of up to three to one. The pundits are saying this is how we could lose the election. You know what I say? When you get knocked down, get up. There's no quit in...

Last Friday I went into Barnes & Noble bookstore in Glendale, CA. Displayed prominently in the front of the bookstore in both the new arrivals shelf and the best selling shelves were a number of anti-Obama books including most notably The Amateur. There were no pro-Obama books prominently displayed in the front part of the store. What a marked contrast from 2008! Back in the day the Glendale-Pasadena area was rock ribbed Goldwater-Reagan Country. Now days the area is just about as liberal as Santa Monica or Beverly Hills. Obama carried both Pasadena and Glendale easily in 2008. That's why...

Just imagine you were looking at the charts on two different stocks, and deciding which one to buy. Here are the charts: ================================================ Stock BOJB: ================================================ Stock MRPR: ================================================ Now I'm no expert at charting stocks, but I'd say BOJB has gone as high as it will ever go, and looks ready for a drop, while MRPR hit a plateau after a nice run up, and looks ready to breakout soon!

The answer to the President's question is "Hell no, it isn't the end!" Our opponents want to close the book on the Obama White House and everything it represents -- all that we've built together and all the progress we'll continue to make together. I just watched the Ron Paul Rally in Tampa, Florida on C-SPAN and I agree with much of what he says. When Mitt Romney is elected President this November, I sincerely hope he appoints Rep. Ron Paul to a cabinet position. I’d favor Rep. Paul for the Department of Energy or Education. Perhaps head of the Bureau of Land Management. For now the Departments of Treasury, Justice or Defense is too scary for me to even think about. Let Rep. Ron Paul show America what he can do with cutting waste in a single department or bureau. If America likes...

In Dublin, Ireland, stands an estate reminiscent of old folklore, complete with its own dragon! Of course, dragons are mythical creatures, so this home only has a dragon made of steel which acts as its gatekeeper. The property, known at Harlech House, was originally built in 1798 by a Welsh immigrant. (The estate is actually named after a town in Wales called Harlech and the national flag has a dragon on it.) Harlech House sits on less than an acre of land but is full of enchantment. It features religious iconography and fairy-tale motifs throughout the seven-bedroom home, but it's...

Debate over abortion-related legislation took a combative turn in the Assembly today when a Pomona Democrat blasted male ignorance of women's bodies, then defied house floor leaders who asked her to stop. Assemblywoman Norma Torres' outburst ended nearly an hour of fierce debate over Senate Bill 623 to continue a pilot project in which physician assistants, nurse practitioners and nurse midwives provide first-trimester aspiration abortions. The measure ultimately passed, 46-24, despite Republican opposition. Torres began her floor speech by noting the words of Todd Akin - though not mentioning his name. The U.S. Senate candidate from Missouri sparked a national...

Heya Freepers, I have a problem. I started writing a book, and I am getting in over my head, here. I am at a point in the notes for the book where the Middle East is broke because oil is pretty much worthless. Will the Mid East population roll over Europe? Will they get control of European nukes? Will they immediately use those nukes on Israel and the US? What would our reaction be? Would we defend ourselves or try to appease them with more Muslim outreach programs a la NASA? Would Russia and China help us?Believe it or not, this...

It's August 23rd. And 75 days from now, I'll either be looking at another four years in the White House -- or the end of this opportunity. I know what's at stake for the parents worrying about health care, the kids who need help to go to college, and the seniors who want a secure retirement. But we're getting outspent by wide margins in critical battleground states -- and what we do about that today could be the difference between winning and losing on November 6th. So as we near one of the last fundraising deadlines of this campaign, I'm...
