A top Russian female newsreader has caused a stir after appearing to offensively show US President Barack Obama her middle finger during a live newscast. Online footage of the incident, which occurred earlier this month during an afternoon news bulletin on the privately held REN TV channel, is being avidly viewed in both Russia and the United States. In the footage, Tatyana Limanova, an award-winning senior newsreader at the channel, can be seen briskly reading out an item about how Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has just assumed the rotating chairmanship of the Asia Pacific Cooperation organisation. She is then heard...

During a news broadcast on Russian TV, anchor Tatiana Limanova spoke about Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s appearance at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. Shortly after, the anchor mentioned that Medvedev will soon take an APEC leadership role previous held by U.S. President Barack Obama. The only odd thing to note, however, is that Limanova says Obama’s name while simultaneously showing her middle finger.

Dallas forward Shawn Marion’s left pinky is severely dislocated. That description might not provide justice to the accurate account of his injury. “It’s facing 10 o’clock,” Marion told ESPN Dallas. But even with the mangled digit, Marion has no plans to get the injury fixed. He can’t even remember when it occurred. “It doesn’t hurt; maybe if I bend it a certain way or something [it hurts],” Marion told ESPN Dallas as he bent and pulled and squished his pinkie as if it was made of rubber. “I got full rotation. The doctor’s like, ‘What are you going to do?’...

PARIS (AFP) – Men whose index fingers are longer than their ring, or fourth, fingers run a significantly lower risk of prostate cancer, according to a study published Wednesday in the British Journal of Cancer. The chances of developing the disease drop by a third, and even more in younger men, the study found. "Our results show that relative finger length could be used as a simple test for prostate cancer risk, particularly in men aged under 60," said Ros Eeles, a professor at the Institute of Cancer Research in Britain and co-author of the study. Finger pattern could help...

Jon Stewart has met the enemy, and it's the media. The Comedy Central comedian and "Daily Show" host walked a fine line between politics and humor Saturday as he gathered tens of thousands on the National Mall for his "Rally to Restore Sanity." Expectations for what Stewart had dubbed his "million moderate march" ranged from the hope of left-leaning groups that the rally would spark the youth vote ahead of Tuesday's midterm elections to the desire for many attendees to enjoy an afternoon of pointed satire inspired by Fox News' Glenn Beck's massive rally two months ago to "restore honor."...

Shock at conference on climate change and creativity Clerics in the South Pacific have fingered the key cause of climate change - homosexuals. The revelation came at a conference at the University of the South Pacific considering the implications of Climate Change and Creativity. The revelation prompted one attendee USP student, Shaiza Janif, to opine: "We need to educate...

BOSTON – Democratic governors facing grim budget choices, lingering unemployment and angry voters are pointing a finger at their colleagues in Democratic-controlled Washington to explain this year’s toxic political climate. Few will fault President Barack Obama directly for their party’s plight heading into the fall midterm elections, but the chief executives gathered here for the National Governors Association (NGA) meeting believe the Congress and White House have made an already difficult year worse. While almost uniformly grateful for the financial windfall they enjoyed from the stimulus legislation, the Democrats believe it wasn’t sold well to the public and more still...

Jeans and a T-shirt would have sufficed, but that's just not Lady Gaga's style. The singer wore a studded leather bra and a head scarf as she watched the San Diego Padres take on the New York Mets in New York last night. Despite her eye-catching ensemble it appeared Gaga had hoped she would somehow blend into the crowd. On noticing a sports photographer turn her way her good mood soured and she gave him the finger.

SUFFOLK—A Suffolk woman who barked like a dog and tried to bite another person's finger off was declared incompetent to stand trial yesterday in district court. Lillian Beasley, 43, was charged with malicious wounding, trespassing and using profane language after a confrontation in March in which police say she bit another woman's finger until she almost severed it. At her appearance in General District Court on Monday, her trial was continued after a psychiatrist said she was unable to assist in mounting a defense. The case will be re-evaluated in November. According to the police report, Beasley became involved in...

She cooked it. Say what you will about the half-baked scam perpetrated by Anna Ayala at a San Jose Wendy's five years ago, the finger she supposedly discovered in her chili was medium well-done. And no one would know that better than Ayala: She was the finger-food chef that day. "I cooked it," Ayala said, making a clean breast of her crime for the first time in a televised interview with Joe Vazquez of CBS-5. Ayala's attempt to shake down the fast-food chain attracted worldwide attention, forcing the San Jose Police Department to assign six investigators to the case and...

Research at the universities of Liverpool and Oxford into the finger length of primate species has revealed that cooperative behavior is linked to exposure to hormone levels in the womb. The hormones, called androgens, are important in the development of masculine characteristics such as aggression and strength. It is also thought that prenatal androgens affect finger length during development in the womb. High levels of androgens, such as testosterone, increase the length of the fourth finger in comparison to the second finger. Scientists used finger ratios as an indicator of the levels of exposure to the hormone and compared this...

KTLA-TV: A 65-year-old man had his finger bitten off Wednesday evening at a health care rally in California. About 100 protesters sponsored by MoveOn.org were having a rally supporting health care reform. A group of anti-health care reform protesters formed across the street. A witness from the scene says a man was walking through the anti-reform group to get to the pro-reform side when he got into an altercation with the 65-year-old, who opposes health care reform. The 65-year-old was apparently aggressive and hit the other man, who then retaliated by biting off his attacker's pinky

Bird wings clearly share ancestry with dinosaur "hands" or forelimbs. A school kid can see it in the bones. But paleontologists have long struggled to explain the so-called digit dilemma. Here's the problem: The most primitive dinosaurs in the famous theropod group (that later included Tyrannosaurus rex) had five "fingers." Later theropods had three, just like the birds that evolved from them. But which digits? The theropod and bird digits failed to match up if you number the digits from 1 to 5 starting with the thumb. Theropods looked like they had digits 1, 2 and 3, while birds have...

Berlin doctors have refused to give a prognosis on whether Berlin zoo director Bernhard Blaszkiewitz’ index finger had been successfully reattached after a chimpanzee bit it off on Monday. “There is a chance for the very destroyed finger, but it is not big,” head surgeon at Berlin's Marzahn district hospital Andreas Eisenschenk said on Tuesday, adding that though the bite wound is flush, there is a high risk of infection. “With chimpanzees there are some germs in play that we can’t control,” he said. As 55-year-old Blaszkiewitz was giving a tour through the zoo on Monday, he stopped at Pedro...

BELGRADE (Reuters) - A Serbian union official who chopped off his finger and ate it in a protest over wages that in some cases have not been paid in years, said Monday he did it to show how desperate he and other workers were. "We, the workers have nothing to eat, we had to seek some sort of alternative food and I gave them an example," Zoran Bulatovic told Reuters. "It hurt like hell." Bulatovic, a union leader at the Raska Holding textile factory in Novi Pazar in southwest Serbia, used a hacksaw to cut off most of his left-hand...

A Saginaw man stuck his finger where he shouldn't have. Lucky for him, help wasn't far away. Victor Harris, 25, was pouring a fuel additive into his Lincoln Navigator at 7-Eleven, 614 S. Washington, about 5 a.m. Thursday when a paper lid from the additive fell into the gasoline tank. Harris tried to fish the paper out but his index finger became stuck in the tank. ''My hand started getting numb about 7 or 8,'' he said. ''I started getting nervous.''
