Floridaobserver, I think you should back off from MAWG, you couldn't be more wrong about him.

Take a look at his tagline: (In the shadows, on permanent ambush duty.) In regards to this Natalee thread, it means what it says.

This is one time you should watch Greta's rerun. Tune in at the half hour and watch the next 15 minutes. Beth shows Natalee's room.

    Thanks for the ping.

I did watch Greta lat night, and saw that Natalee's calender was marked to pick up her paycheck from her job on May 31, 20005. Also, that new dresses were ready for her sorority rush appointments, which were also on the calender, and June 1st was marked - UA orientation, I think.

Beth had turned down a previous request from Greta to show Natalee's room. Beth said about changing or removing anything from Natalee's room, "I just won't touch it now.. I will know when its time to put away some things."

Beth said about Natalee's scholarship, that Natalee never made below an A.

    On Rita last night:

Brief flash of surveillance video, from presumably CnC's, of car leaving from the building (Deepak's car). Did anyone TIVO that piece of video to capture the picture of the car.

From what I could see, the windows were so dark no one inside could be seen. It does make me wonder how much other surveillance video there was at CnC's that night, and how did Rita get that video.

    Thanks for posting the link.

    Also, from the article:

    Snip...
"The Star: Are you convinced this is a case of corruption rather than incompetence or a combination of the two?"

"Holloway: I think it’s a combination of both. Aruban police officers have told some of our people that they don’t know who to trust in the police department. That’s serious. A lot of weird things or strange things have happened. Even a Dutch law professor in Holland looked at this case and made the comment, just recently back in April, that this was one of the most strange and unprofessional police investigations he’d ever seen."

    Snip...
"I know that one of the police officers down there was upset with me for pushing this case forward and quoting him on some things he told me."

    Snip...
"The Star: Talk about your community, Meridian, and its response to your ordeal."

"Holloway: It’s been an overwhelming response. I couldn’t believe it. The whole community rallied. I was gone and seeing the signs and posters overwhelmed me when I got back. Church members mowed the grass. Some of my former agents helped out in the office. A number of things occurred that made you feel good that you are from a small town where everybody cares about you and helps you."

Also, from the article: "Atia: Price control measures do not solve anything":

Atia admits that there are some external factors that influence the economy negatively. The Holloway-case plays an important part in this, but the government has to look at herself. The government apparatus is way too big. It is not the first time that this is being said.

The International Monetary Funds, the World Bank, the Central Bank of Aruba and a great deal of other independent local and international instances pointed this out at several occasions.

"He talked about the possibilities that Aruba has to offer to investors...

Prime Minister Nelson Oduber, explaining what Aruba has to offer to Chinese investors.

Let me count the ways of what Aruba has to offer China...Chinese drilling for oil and gas in Aruba territorial waters, Money laundering through banks, established drug transshipment system, officials with questionable integrity, Free Port Zone,...

It's for sure the shops on Aruba can't hold all the crap uhhh... goods brought by ship to Aruba, so the up-front legitimate business will be the "gateway of Chinese goods for Latin America.

    While, underneath the facade:

China made record heroin seizures last year (2001)

U.S. Official Comments on Chinese Engagement in Latin America - Created: 21 Sep 2005 Updated: 21 Sep 2005

Snip... China's Role in Narcotics Control

Given this subcommittee's interest in narcotics, let me elaborate on China's role in narcotics control in the region. China has a large and developed chemical industry, and, like the U.S., it is one of the world's largest producers of precursor chemicals, which have legitimate uses but are also used in the production of cocaine and synthetic drugs. In particular, China is the world's leading exporter of bulk ephedrine (used in cold medicines and weight-loss tablets) and a source country for much of the ephedrine and pseudoephedrine imported into Mexico. China notifies the DEA of shipments of precursor chemicals to the U.S. and Mexico so that tracking may be done to prevent diversion of these chemicals for illicit purposes. Nevertheless, some precursor chemicals are diverted from legal use to manufacture methamphetamine destined for the United States.

To regulate its chemical industry, China is a party to the 1988 U.N. Drug Convention and has regulations for record keeping and import/export controls on all chemicals included in the Convention. Several provinces have more stringent controls than called for in the Convention. In the State Department's International Narcotics Control Strategy Report we have noted, however, that China needs to improve its infrastructure to adequately monitor its large chemical production capacity and international trade in chemicals.

U.S. and Chinese cooperation in chemical control and counternarcotics is good and has been steadily improving. This was highlighted by a joint operation involving the DEA and several PRC law enforcement agencies in October 2004, leading to the world's largest seizure of the synthetic drug Mandrax (18 metric tons), and the seizure of 10 tons of pseudoephedine tablets (a key precursor for methamphetamine) in Los Angles in September 2004.

While China is a transit country for heroin produced in Southeast Asia to international markets, the DEA's Heroin Signature Program indicates less than one percent of heroin seized in the U.S. comes from Southeast Asia.

    -----------------------------------------------

All that is soon to change, when China and Aruba shake hands on their deal.

Then the heroin trade route will likely look like this: Southeast Asia to China to Aruba to Mexico to USA, IMO.

And, the bonus for China will be oil and gas (which China has a growing need for) from Aruba territorial waters.

Welcome, all, to the new Global Economy.

    Also from the article:

George Twitty, a stepbrother, says the case has turned the lives of the family upside down. He and Matt Holloway, Natalee's brother, a senior at Mountain Brook next year, have grown closer through the experience but have stayed out of the limelight, he said. "Matt and I both wanted to keep all the attention on Natalee."

    Ships offshore during exercise

Flanked by a fast motorboat of the navy, the submarine Zeeleeuw leaves the Anna Bay.

CURACAO – The start of the Joint Caribbean Lion yesterday, symbolized by the station ship Van Nes, the Belgian Westdiep, the aircraft carrier USS Bataan, transport ship FS Francis Garnier, the submarine Zeeleeuw and the commando frigate De Ruyter leaving the harbour one after the other. Only the supply ship Zuiderkruis remained in port due to technical problems, which were fixed today.

For the next days, the ships will stay offshore close to the island. The first exercise was a humanitarian disaster that took place ashore in Fuikbaai. This exercise will be repeated this coming Friday for the team of the Belgian ship.

Meanwhile, the 8th participating navy vessel has also arrived, namely the USS Taylor that jointed the others offshore and for the time being, will not put into port. The USS Fort McHenry and the Canadian ships Montreal and Preserver are expected to arrive later. Expectations are that eventually a total of 12 naval vessels will take part.

Joint Caribbean Lion (JCL) requires a lot of flexibility of the planners, also due to the late arrival of the transport ship Rotterdam that is still in Surinam. Even though it is an exercise, the scenarios must have surprising elements. The program is therefore surrounded with secrecy. Main purpose of the exercise is the testing of the new joint set-up in which all the Dutch branches of military service in cooperation with units of other countries perform operation on land, in which the set-up and assistance takes place on sea, the so-called sea basing. The benefit of this is that anywhere in the world unauthorized operations can take place, as long as it is outside the 12-miles zone of the territorial waters.

In the past few days, the Royal Military Police was very busy with escorting the several transports of riding material from Nieuwe Haven to the Suffisant base and the several operation areas, like Fuikbaai, Wacao, Hato and Eastpoint. Eastpoint owner Willy Maal has authorized the military to perform exercises on his property. The tanks are transported on flatbed trailers over the road. For the first time since long ago, the traffic in Curacao is coping with the phenomenon military column that always has the right-a-way.

The 6 F-16’s arrived on Military Hato today. They will be put in for air defence tasks as well as for assistance of land forces. The F-16’s will start flying this coming Friday. A max of 4 will fly at the same time.

The Dutch media reports in abundance on the Joint Caribbean Lion. The reports concentrate mostly on the fact that the exercise takes place on the doorstep of neighboring country Venezuela, and they also put emphasis on the relationship between the government leaders Hugo Chávez and George Bush.

Chinese interest in oil-prospecting near Aruba

Prime Minister Nelson Oduber (r) explaining what Aruba has to offer to Chinese investors.

ARUBA – A Chinese oil-refinery has shown interest in exploring and exploiting of oil and gas in the territorial waters around Aruba. Prime Minister Nelson Oduber (MEP) learned this during his visit to China.

On this trip, Oduber was accompanied by amongst others director of the Foreign Relations Administration (DBB) Agustin Vrolijk, director of the Free Zone Greg Peterson, and interim-director Aruban Investment Bank Frendsel Giel. Together with a representative of China Brazil Development Office, the Aruban delegation visited the PetroChina Fuel Oil Company that showed interest in exploring and exploiting of oil and gas in the territorial waters around Aruba. At the end of the visit, a representative of the Chinese refinery made it clear that the company would like to talk to Aruban business- and investments experts.

Karel van Oosterom, interim ambassador for the Royal Dutch Kingdom gave a reception in honour of the Aruban delegation, during which Oduber gave a presentation on “what the smallest island in the western hemisphere has to offer to the biggest country in the eastern hemisphere’ to representatives of the Chinese government, Chinese investors, representatives of countries in the region, and the media in Beijing. The presentation was in English and an interpreter translated his words for the Chinese listeners.

He talked about the possibilities that Aruba has to offer to investors and products from China that Aruba can import to the Latin American region, the Caribbean, and North America via gateway.

There was also another reception in honour of the Aruban delegation given by the KangMei Group, during which Oduber received a poster with more than 100 good wishes.

Immigration Bill Is Worse Than You Think
    by Sen. Jeff Sessions
    Posted May 25, 2006

Editor’s Note: Sen. Jeff Sessions (R.-Ala.), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, offered a devastating analysis on the Senate immigration bill in a speech delivered on the Senate floor on Tuesday, May 23. Sessions pointed to shocking elements of the bill that were hidden deep in its text.

These include, for example, that the employers of illegal aliens would be given an amnesty for cheating on their taxes, and that under the terms of the law the government would for all practical purposes have to take an illegal alien’s word for it that he has been in the country illegally long enough to qualify for an amnesty.

Sessions also pointed to some of the tremendous hidden costs of the bill, including the $500 billion in additional welfare payments it will cost American taxpayers in the period 10 to 20 years after its passage.

Senators who vote for the bill today cannot credibly claim later they were unaware of the elements and consequences that Sen. Session’s outlined in this speech.

    [Sen. Jeff Sessions]:
I am going to take some time tonight to inform my colleagues about some of the problems with the legislation before us. It is worse than you think, colleagues.

The legislation has an incredible number of problems with it. Some, as I will point out tonight, can only be considered deliberate. Whereas on the one hand it has nice words with good sounding phrases in it to do good things, on the second hand it completely eviscerates that, oftentimes in a way that only the most careful reading by a good lawyer would discover.

So I feel like I have to fulfill my duty. I was on the Judiciary Committee. We went into this. We tried to monitor it and study it and actually read this 614-page bill, and I have a responsibility and I am going to fulfill my responsibility.
