Four of six agents from the Reno office of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives have transferred in a rift with federal prosecutors, and the departures have left the northern Nevada region ill-equipped to investigate illegal weapon and drug activity, a newspaper investigation found.

Flying around an 8-mile track at 500 miles per hour is something most of us probably can't comprehend. But for many pilots, it's a lot like Christmas, in September. "The biggest part of that is not so much getting and opening up the presents, it's seeing your family," Will Whiteside said. "These guys and gals up here have become, over the past ten years for me, my family." "If you miss it, you feel a void in your life," Marilyn Dash said. "When I started racing about ten years ago, I couldn't imagine doing anything else with my September except...

Keeping up with the news surrounding the Reno Air Races this year has been exhausting. Racers and fans alike have so many questions, i.e., are we racing, what changes will we see, who will be there, who won’t, will the fans notice any changes? These are all good questions. I hope that I have, through this column, helped everyone understand what the process has been following the horrific event of September 16, 2011. I have tried to listen to the questions the fans have been asking and answer them here.

RENO, NV - Reno police have released the name of a man crushed to death after a chase downtown. Wednesday morning about 11, police were helping Municipal Court marshals, who were trying to stop a man with a warrant out for his arrest. The man was on a bicycle, but then dropped the bike and ran. Officers and marshals stopped the search when they couldn't find the man, but then a resident at the Truckee River Terrace Apartments reported finding a man in a trash compactor there. That's where police found 37-year-old Rodney Wright, the man marshals had been looking...

A blue ribbon panel of experts reviewing the deadly crash at last year's National Championship Air Races in Reno is making a number of recommendations to make the event safer but none would prevent the competition from continuing as scheduled in September, officials told The Associated Press.

RENO, Nev. -- Organizers of the Reno National Championship Air Races cleared a major hurdle Thursday in their bid to continue the annual event this fall, winning approval of a special one-year permit and moving closer to securing the necessary $100 million in insurance in the aftermath of last year's tragic mass-casualty crash. The future of the 48-year-old competition has been in question since a modified World War II-era plane crashed at the event in September, killing the pilot and 10 spectators, and injuring more than 70 others on the ground. The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority's board of trustees voted unanimously...

As leader of the free world President Obama will be used to making speeches to millions of people around the globe. So he might have felt the occasion was a little beneath him yesterday when he stopped off in Reno, Nevada, to deliver an address outside a couple's garage.

President Barack Obama visited Val and Paul Keller on Friday. They owe $168,000 on their mortgage. Their home is currently valued at $100,000. Obama forgot to mention something. At the peak of the market in 2007, the Keller's did a $250,000 cash-out refinance! Now they want Obama's help.

RENO, Nev. - The biggest prior threats to Burning Man's annual regeneration in the Black Rock Desert were U.S. land use laws, undercover cops and the media-perpetuated perception that the largest outdoor arts festival in North America is really just an excuse to get naked and do drugs. But that was before the teeth-gnashing "ticket fiasco." Two decades after the free spirits moved their party from San Francisco's Baker Beach to a dried up ancient lake bed 120 miles north of Reno, the annual pilgrimage with its drum circles, decorated art cars, guerilla theatrics and colorful theme camps has become...

It will be a while before the NTSB issues its findings about the crash of The Galloping Ghost at the Reno Air Races this year. There were so many witnesses, however, and photographic and video coverage of the disastrous accident was so clear, that it did not take long for theorizing about the cause to converge on a single scenario.

At least one man is dead, after suffering a fatal cardiac arrest while evacuating. Historians know that they can never claim wars start with a clash of armies. They know that the root causes of war start long before. In the same way that the seeds of war germinate well in advance of battle action, so too did the causes of this country’s mortgage meltdown, housing collapse, and credit crisis. Champions of Big-Brother-Government want you to blame everyone else except government intrusion for the economic plagues that currently assail us. But there’s no getting around the truth. In the 1990s and 2000s, activist leftist groups like ACORN, AFL-CIO, and NEA conspired with liberal politicians...
