  • (Vanity) Yugoslav type 59 SKS - Cleaning kit stuck in the stock!

    01/25/2012 11:34:38 AM PST · by jboot · 22 replies
OK, fellow FReepers, I've got a question. I recently purchased a Yugoslav Type 59 SKS. This is the original Yugo SKS, nearly a carbon copy of the Soviet weapon, not the later 59/66 with an integral grenade launcher. It's been around the block many, many times, but it still shoots as good as an SKS can be expected to shoot (which is to say just OK). I am planning on doing a full conservation project with it, because it has lots of nice cartouches and rack numbers. Moreover, it was finished with what appears to be dark brown shoe polish!...

Our local Fleet Farm is selling Yugoslavian SKS rifles for $279. They're graded "Very Good" and do seem to be in pretty good shape(sharp edges on the action, rifling seems good). I wouldn't mind using it as a short range deer rifle, and I know the 7.62 x 39 does a nice job on deer within 100 yards. Any opinions on this particular type of SKS? Thanks.

BRADENTON — Two high school football players have been arrested on charges they killed a 55-year-old woman during a botched home invasion robbery. One of the teenagers is paralyzed after one of the robbery victims shot back, according to the Bradenton Police Department. Detectives arrested Palmetto High School students Ta Heem Blake, 17, a former running back for the school, and Marquis Sanders, 18, who transferred from Bayshore High School. They face charges in the shooting death of Maria Lerma early Sunday, Bradenton Police Deputy Chief William Tokajer said. Blake and Sanders are accused of barging into Lerma’s home in...
  • (Vanity Post) What gun should I buy?

I know this is a vanity post. But I wonder if fellow freepers can help me make a decision. I traditionally buy a new firearm after a democrat victory. In the past I have bought hunting rifles and revolvers. Now I feel the need to purchase a different type of firearm and I covet freeper input. My guidelines are as follows. 1. caliber .223-.260 2. must be semiautomatic. 3. Must be able to defend against groups of foraging liberals, desperate for a handout. 4. Must be able to handle attacks from drug-crazed intercity refugees. 5. Ammo must be easily procured...

Letters: Why protests over beating, but not shooting? Four police officers are out of their jobs - and rightly so ("Four Officers Fired In Police Beating," May 20). I wonder, though, if the three accused shooting suspects will ever face any penalty for their actions. Lots of people turned out to protest the beating of these three "gentlemen," but somehow the shooting that prompted the whole thing didn't merit even the attendance in court of the witnesses to the shooting of the suspects' three alleged victims. Perhaps the police should be kept out of some of these neighborhoods, so that...

Omaha (KPTM) - Omaha Police Chief Thomas Warren says that today's shooting was "done by one shooter, and one shooter only". In a Wednesday night press conference, Chief Warren said that the first shooting victim was found shot to death on the second floor of Von Maur. Several victims were found shot to death in the customer service area of Von Maur on the third floor. The shooter, 19 year-old Robert Hawkins, was found in the store with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Warren says Hawkins was found with a SKS Assault rifle. Among the dead are 5 unidentified females, 3...

A ban on assault rifles, pushed by the mayor of Chicago and our governor, is moldering in the state House Rules Committee. Lawmakers can take no action until they reconvene in October. And even then, there's little chance supporters can pick up the three additional votes they need to send the bill to the Senate. But like the villain at the end of a movie, the assault rifle ban never dies. It's just wounded, waiting to come back when you're not looking. So I thought I would look into the validity of its major argument. That is, this notion that...

Killers turn to assault rifles 7.62 mm weapons used in recent slayings FLINT THE FLINT JOURNAL FIRST EDITION Tuesday, June 28, 2005 By Ken Palmer, Bryn Mickle and James L. Smith FLINT - Assault rifles favored by Iraqi insurgents are finding their way onto Flint streets in alarming numbers. A spate of shootings using such 7.62 mm assault rifles as AK-47s has police worried about high-powered weapons better suited for war zones. Why so much worry? A 7.62mm round can cut straight through a bullet-resistant vest. "That powerful of a weapon is a concern for the safety of officers and...

MARTIN - Brad Johnson told his awful story late Tuesday afternoon, remembering in a soft, unsteady voice the rifle shot that took a stranger's life and changed his own forever. "I have a lot of questions to God about why this thing had to happen," the 51-year-old Martin-area farmer said during a telephone interview from his home. "It's a terrible thing. It's a freak thing. To me, it's impossible that it could even happen." But it did happen last Friday afternoon, in a blurred convergence of poor judgment and fickle chance that left 39-year-old Jay Torgerson of Custer lying in...
