Mexico remains 'are US soldiers'
BBC ^ | Friday, July 18, 2008 | unattributed

The remains of what appear to be four US soldiers who died in 1846 during the Mexican-American war have been found, Mexican officials have said. The skeletons were found at the site of the Battle of Monterrey in northern Mexico alongside relics indicating the bodies were US soldiers... Mexico's state archaeological agency said the bodies were found in several digs between 1996 and 2008 but it took a long time to identify the remains because it was believed only Mexicans were buried at the battle site.

What it must have been like to live in that time period is beyond me. Sometimes I think I’ve been born 160 years too late.

The remains of four American soldiers from 1846!?!

Quick! Let’s cut a deal to free every illegal rapist/murder/criminal in a U.S. prison from South of the Border to have our precious bones returned.

(that of course, was a joke)

The skeletons were found at the site of the Battle of Monterrey

None of mine relatives. They fought elsewhere; and they all survived, and made it safely home.

Some marched, as part of a ‘company’ of Mormon volunteers, from Nauvoo, Illinois to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, to join up; then marched (via Santa Fe) to Baja.

After the war, they then marched to San Diego and mustered out.

It was their own two feet all the way; my feet and knees salute them!

Then they then marched via San Bernardino (I've visited one of their camp sites up near Cajon Summit on I-15) back to Nauvoo in time to march to Salt Lake.

Meanwhile, on my mother's side, GGGrandma was born, an Army brat, at the Benicia Arsenal, in 1846.

Israel just completed an unfortunate prisoner exchange wherein she received the bodies of her soldiers for living palestinians. I propose a similar exchange, but on a grander scale. We will take ours back, if Mexico will take hers...all 20 million.

Well...as long as we released them to Mexican custody...along with the notification of installation of autonomous radar-guided miniguns along the freshly walled border...

ACUTALLY, what led to their discovery is the fact that they had been turning in their graves during the Bush II administration.

Thanks for the ping. FWIW, I've only read one book on this war:

Here's the book on Amazon

It was terrific. Well written and reasonable short, after reading this book you'll never think of James K. Polk the same way again.
