Kerala's possible Mediterranean links unearthed by researchers
Business Ghana ^ | March 9th 2010 | GNA

A wide range of megalithic burials recently discovered in some northern districts of Kerala during a research project have thrown light on possible links between the Mediterranean and Kerala coasts in the prehistoric stone age that occurred between 6000 BC and 2000 BC. The researchers, however, say further studies and analysis are required to establish the thesis. Interestingly, the finds were unearthed at a time when the researchers have firmly established the maritime links between the Mediterranean region with Kerala since ancient times... The recent study was done by V P Devadas, principal investigator, as part of a project of the University Grants Commission on 'Megaliths of Kerala' in the northern districts of the state. His explorations in parts of Palakkad, Wayanad and Idukki have yielded a large number of port-holed cists, dolmens, menhirs, iron implements, etc. which are considered to be have been used by the navigators of Kerala who migrated from the Mediterranean region by sea route. "Though scores of megalith burials have been dug up from these sites, the most significant among them is the port-holed cist," said Devdas.

Here's a picture:

I think this is a view looking down and the structure is incomplete. Normally, the port-hole is on the side slab facing east.

My grandmother had something that looked much like that in a little house out behind her farmhouse. I don’t recall that it faced east, but it had a religious cult symbol of a crescent moon cut out above the door.

Of course, as a boy, I had no idea it had Mediterranean roots.

That would support that civilization existed before Sumeria. It likely stretched from India, Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Philippines, and Taiwan.

Samuel Noah Cramer pointed out that the names for the big rivers and towns of the Sumerians were not Sumerian names, but were borrowed by them from the original inhabitants. The only written traces (the only known ones at least) of those vanished folks' language(s?) are in Sumerian (and later Akkadian) cuneiform. Who they were, and what language they spoke, is unknown and probably unknowable. The Sumerians themselves also spoke of their own arrival from the sea. But yeah, I don't doubt that civilization (and even literate civilization) is far older than we know, and perhaps will ever know. Quick reprise:
In her Plato Prehistorian: 10,000 to 5000 B.C. Myth, Religion, Archaeology, Mary Settegast reproduces a table which shows four runic character sets; a is Upper Paleolithic (found among the cave paintings), b is Indus Valley script, c is Greek (western branch), and d is the Scandinavian runic alphabet.

Possibly Sumeria was part of this civilisation and the survivor. This would trace Dravidians as Sumerians

The eighth character in row b looks sort of familiar.

The Straits of Malacca were closed until about 7,000 years ago until enough ice had melted to raise the sea levels enough.

Asians were then able to travel to India, etc by sea through the newly opened straits and would have a desire to do so because their homeland was going underwater.
