Nutritionists says water only diet is most dangerous ever

Eating disorder expert Joanne Labiner likened Water Fasting to conditions like anorexia and said it should be avoided, especially at a time of year when people are considering slimming down after Christmas.

She said: ‘It can be so bad for your organs. That’s why people with anorexia can die of a heart attack. Their body feeds on their heart.

‘Our body thinks it’s an emergency and tries to prevent that fat storage from being used up, and it feeds on the muscle’.

On social media site Twitter dieters claimed that the Water Fast left their skin looking ‘amazing’.

...

NHS guidelines say that if you want to lose weight you should lose no more than 2lbs a week if you want it to be sustainable.

Kidney specialist Dr Jason Fung, said that short term fasting worked but only for certain patients. He suggested that water fasts were appropriate for clients who are obese or have Type 2 diabetes – but only under the supervision of a doctor.

He said: ‘It can be done, people do them, but they have to be done safely.

‘I don’t think it’s the safest thing to do, but if you’re obese, it’s not the most dangerous thing, either. If you’re relatively slender, it’s more dangerous’. Dr Fung, who wrote a book called ‘The Complete Guide to Fasting’, added: ‘The longer you (fast) the more risks you take’.

The human body will ALWAYS consume fat first. It does not metabolize the body’e muscle until all the fat is gone.

This is simply not true.

>>Please tell us that this guy really died.
..
>>Evidently this guy produced all the oxaloacetate he needed.

You don’t have to die to catabolise lean body mass to burn fat in the TCA cycle, super genius.

Where DID that oxaloacetate come from?

Why didn't he die? You're saying he didn't produce all the oxaloacetate he needed? You're saying you know more about the human body than the human body knows?

So how much student loan debt did you bury yourself under to get your worthless "nutrition" degree, perfesser>

>>How's that student loan debt feeling?

LOL. Got any other straw you'd like to pull out of your arse - sans being able to articulate an actual understanding of the physiology of the catabolism of fat?

https://www.google.com/search?q=fat+catabolism

>>Chafing your shoulders a bit?

Never noticed much chafing. Had it all paid off before graduation.

Over the years, though, I have encountered some folks getting a bit of chafing if their wet suit, bike, running shorts, or LBE don't fit quite right on long events ...

How's yours hangin'?

Nope. But unlike YOU - I know where it came from.

This woman is an idiot
Nearly every ancient culture talks of fasting one day per week
It’s in the Bible the Dead Sea scrolls and on and on
Buddha fasted for 40 days until he reached enlightenment
It’s good for the body soul and spirit
Ghandi said “ hunger is my power “
Overeating is the number one cause of unhealthy living. By far
In America of course
Bottom line
Don’t ever listen to so called health experts

Well said. There are at least two of us that should be DEAD right now on this thread, as we’ve fasted for over a week each (probably multiple times). Yet we’re here...so obviously this ‘nutritionist’ is full of hot air.

And if anyone actually wants to trust their ‘science’, just think ‘Food Pyramid’, and the results we’ve seen from it regarding obesity in this country.

These people need to be SHUT DOWN!

The process of ketosis is one of the physiological effects of fasting in which the brain (and some other bodily processes) uses ketones produced from fatty tissues as a fuel instead of the usual glucose. This is called “muscle sparing”.
When glucose isn’t readily available via the diet (in the form of carbohydrates) and the glycogen stores in the liver become depleted, the body could break down muscle to get it. But ketosis is an adaptation that will spare muscle during times of shortage by instead breaking down fat stores and manufacturing ketones for brain fuel. It is said this state is attained at approximately 48 hours of a water fast for women and closer to 72 hours for men.

Stupid Military - and their M.R.Es.

How much mileage you managed to put under your hooves with a jug of water and a stick of butter?

Well said. There are at least two of us that should be DEAD right now on this thread,

Make that three of us...

I once fasted (just water) for 21 days for spiritual reasons...

First three days were tough, but after that it was a piece of cake...

The only reason I started eating again is my commitment was for three weeks and I was starting to feel weak...

The one huge drawback in extended fasting makes your body purge the toxins/crap in it and quite frankly you get pretty damn stinky..

They already have a name for a water only diet, it’s called starvation.

“They already have a name for a water only diet, it’s called starvation.”

Actually starvation is different from dieting, and is different from fasting.

Starvation happens when you run out of usable fat...then your body will start eating muscle. People tend to confuse that with fasting, when you’re simply converting fat into Keytones...something that can be done indefinitely as long as there is sufficient fat.

Sad though, many, many, people could loose massive amounts of weight if they only understood the difference between starvation and fasting.

>>how does ketosis work?

“The acetyl-CoA enters the citric acid cycle and undergoes an aldol condensation with oxaloacetate to form citrate. ... Along with the fatty acids, deaminated ketogenic amino acids can be converted into intermediates in the citric acid cycle and produce ketone bodies. Ketogenesis produces one ketone body per two acetyl-CoA.”
https://www.google.com/search?q=TCA+cycle+in+Ketosis

The key there is the oxaloacetate - which is required for the fat burning chemistry of the TCA.

“We now know that fat actually burns in the flame of oxaloacetate. Oxaloacetate can be derived from either glucose or amino acids [protein].”
https://musclegeek.wordpress.com/2012/05/01/are-carbs-required-for-fat-burning/

Natural Selection has made some ethnic groups better than others at processing protein [amino acids] into oxaloacetate:

“Inuit have been observed to have enlarged livers with an increased capacity for gluconeogenesis, and have greater capacity for excreting urea to remove ammonia, a toxic byproduct of protein breakdown.[54][63][64][65]”
