I had forgotten this entire episode. Dallas now has/had a formerly closed hospital set up as a Bio IV(?) contamination ward in case we ever get another case here. The infected Dallas nurse was abandoned by her employer.

http://www.daytoncitypaper.com/debate-forum-1111/

(Nov 11 2014) Maine nurse Kaci Hickox is now free to do as she pleases, after returning from Sierra Leone, West Africa, where she was treating Ebola patients. In a case that many across the nation have been watching closely, District Court Judge Charles C. LaVerdiere rejected imposing tight restrictions on Hickox, including the 21-day quarantine the state of Maine was demanding. Hickox views this as a victory, asserting she was never contagious and that an immediate quarantine would discourage healthcare workers from traveling to Ebola-stricken countries (an opinion shared by the president). But decision-makers in the state and beyond contend sanctioned quarantines for those who have been in contact with Ebola are necessary for public health. Some now wonder whether Ebola has become a political tool – a gross overreaction sensationalized by the media and election contenders as the hot issue of the moment...

Although the United States has stumbled several times and decontamination procedure failures have resulted in infections of altruistic healthcare workers, no one has died and all the workers have recovered. The only Ebola-related death that has occurred in the U.S. thus far was that of a Liberian national brought into the country for treatment. Despite CDC and other healthcare industry and government failings, it appears there won’t be other deaths in the U.S. resulting from domestically transmitted Ebola infections. It appears those whose jobs are to control the Ebola outbreak have learned their lessons. In fact, more people have died on U.S. soil as a result of the recent Enterovirus D68 outbreak (a possible total of 11, so far, according to the Centers for Disease Control) than from Ebola....

Opponents of Ebola quarantines say such cautions are unnecessary once it is confirmed that an individual, such as Ms. Hickox, is virus- and symptom-free. Those opposed include President Obama, public health experts and the United Nations.

There is less reason for high-risk travel than ever before. Good, serious quarantines are in order for far more travelers than we have now, which of course will cut down on travel to high-risk zones dramatically. Foreigners who have been to such areas shouldn’t be allowed into the country at all. Let them skype for whatever they need from wherever they are.

The somewhat counter-intuitive truth is that higher death rates often leads to birth rates that more than compensate.

A couple of points missed in the article above. Two nurses (Pham and Vinson) contracted Ebola, and at least one NYC doctor.

(2016) A nurse who contracted Ebola two years ago while caring for the first person to be diagnosed in the U.S. with the deadly disease settled a lawsuit Monday against the parent company of the Dallas hospital where she worked.

Attorneys for Nina Pham announced the settlement with Texas Health Resources. They and the company said in a joint statement that terms will not be disclosed.

Pham contracted Ebola in the fall of 2014 while caring for Thomas Eric Duncan at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. Duncan, who contracted Ebola in his native Liberia and became ill during a trip to the U.S., died. Pham, at the time an intensive care unit nurse, and another Dallas nurse who contracted Ebola survived.

Wiki lists 20 Ebola patients treated outside of West Africa before 2015.

We can only hope.....

Infectious Disease Ping- Ebola (Congo/& proximity to Uganda)
Situation Update

Congo has experienced 10 outbreaks of Ebola since it was discovered in the country’s forested north in 1976.
The disease causes hemorrhagic fever, vomiting and diarrhea
and kills about half of the people it infects.
Adults ages 35 to 44 account for 23% of cases in this outbreak (based on information from 135 patients.
Most cases (56%) have been in women.
Nineteen healthcare workers have been infected, three of whom have died.

Health officials have made progress slowing the spread of the virus with experimental vaccines and treatments.
But violence and turmoil in eastern Congo has made some areas difficult to access.
Dozens have been killed in ethnic clashes between groups in Djugu territory where Tchomia is located,
with thousands crossing into Uganda to escape the violence.

Opponents of Ebola quarantines say such cautions are unnecessary once it is confirmed that an individual, such as Ms. Hickox, is virus- and symptom-free.

Ebola survivors carry dormant copies of the virus in their inter-ocular and spinal fluids, probably for the rest of their lives. They are carriers. The most likely reservoir of the disease is not fruit bats; it is human beings.

There are numerous and well-documented cases of recovered Ebola patients who infected their sex partners up to 1 year after they were supposedly symptom and virus-free.

If the Chinese colonists in Africa have some misadventure with Ebola, the Chinese Government will enforce lethal quarantine measures in a heartbeat.

Turd-owe has imported 50k Syrians in the last year, less than .5% are the Christians that are persecuted by ALL SIDES in Syria, in addition to thousands from Africa. In addition, anyone who flies to the US, makes it to the Northern border and then claims refugee status, is welcomed with open arms by the RCMP, who are required to act as porters, carrying their luggage to the nearest registration centre, usually just yards from the illegal crossing site!

The illegals are provided with full health care, schooling for the kids, welfare and hotel accommodation, while their case is reviewed. What about the ACTUAL refugees, those living in refugee camps in Africa and elsewhere, who DO NOT have the money to fly to the US and walk into Kanaduh? Well, they are just SOL! THEY get pushed to the end of the line, to allow illegals in. Turd-owe is all about virtue signaling, a teenage 46 year old little boy, seeking the praise of his ‘fellow travelers’. May God help Kanaduh!

There was a documentary about several Russians who had worked on their bio weapons program. After the Berlin Wall came down, our government hired them to find out some of the weapons they had developed.

One of the weapons was splicing together a devastating virus that attacks the nervous system with a cold virus. Therefore, people would have a highly contagious cold, and two months later would start to develop symptoms similar to MS, the disease would incapacitate the infected over the next couple of months eventually leading to death. Mortality rate was projected above 97 pct.

That was before CRISPR technology was available.

And more do-gooder healthcare workers will be headed over there and bringing back who knows what to the US. Y’all do realize, those doctors come back and immediately start seeing US patients and doing surgeries, uh huh. Ebola incubation is 21+ days.

We thought 9/11 was bad. Just wait for them doing bio terrorism here.

“Just wait for them doing bio terrorism here.”

For the most part, Muslim nations have been incompetent at technology. True, Turkey and Iran have developed robust weapon production programs. But the ideas and concepts are entirely western. Their culture is not as “careful” as the west’s and it is likely that they will kill themselves with carelessness before they ever weaponize, produce and develop a delivery mechanism for a virus. They have a culturally imposed fatalistic view that whatever happens is Allah’s will, so why wear a seatbelt or take precautions? Unless they buy or steal the weapon from a western source, we have little to fear in the short run.

Longer term, if we don’t reform Muslim culture, they will eventually “get it right.”

All it takes is putting a few dozen on a plane headed to JFK and points west. Twenty-one days later, after they’ve toured the USA in their Chevrolets, and well, it’s spread everywhere. Remember, we had a plane full of sick folk land at JFK a couple weeks ago.

Given China’s activities in Africa, it wouldn’t surprise me to be reading of a outbreak of Ebola in China.

It would astonish me.

No one would dare report on it.

google wouldn't return search results if they did.

This is going to go on for a while.

The US media suppression of the story seems to be “on” earlier this time out than with the West Africa outbreak.

It would get out...too many go to China and too many travel from her to other lands not to have the news get out. As the first Chinese might get sick in Africa, you might hear the news there first.
