World Terrorism : Weapons of Disruption Onging...

Weapons of Disruption

C 2006 Frederick J. Cowie, Ph.D.

Whereas we have no masses, it certainly would be seriously challenging to deliver a "weapon of mass destruction" in the vast majority of geographical areas in the American West, as well as in many areas in the East and South. For instance, Montana is approximately the size of Germany, yet the population hovers only around a million (we have one representative in the House). There is no "metropolitan" area anywhere around, though Spokane is about three hundred miles away. Wyoming has more sheep than people. Utah has Salt Lake City and a few nearby populous areas. Nevada has two populated regional areas, Las Vegas and Reno. North and South Dakota have, well, a few folks here and there. Idaho folks are few and far between. I swear you can drive from San Antonio to El Paso without seeing a city policeman, because I've done it several times. Then there are Arizona, New Mexico, eastern California, inter alia. The point is we have a few population points, while the rest of the states are empty excepted for isolated small communities. Thus, out West we probably need to talk more about "weapons of disruption." (Some folks say "weapons of mass disruption," but we have no masses!)

You must ask yourself: What would I do if I were a terrorist (or a terrorism preparedness instructor) looking into the ramifications of launching a rural terrorism attack? Personally, I would concentrate on considering the consequences of disruption rather than mass destruction. Here are a few scenarios you might want consider when your local rural emergency management/response group gathers to discuss terrorism exercises.

1) Wildland Fire Incidents: Incendiary (mostly wildland) warfare has been used by military strategists for at least 2500 years, over a thousand years before the use of gunpowder. The western U.S. is disrupted, seriously disrupted, every year by wildland fires. Quite a few are started by humans, accidentally and purposefully. Starting dozens of major fires in a dozen western states could be a brilliant line of attack if militants wished to disrupt America. Thousands of security personnel could do nothing and the perpetrator/s would probably never be implicated, much less captured. Are you prepared?

2) Railroad Chemical Incidents: Many railroad main lines go through tunnels. A few strategically placed armor-piercing shells in a series of chlorine cars, along with appropriately staged derailments leaving the leaking cars in the tunnels, could shut down many main line routes in the West. Spin-off scenarios are numerous. Ready?

3) Flammable Liquid Incidents: Bridges are not easily brought down from below and approaches to bridge support structures are often highly visible and randomly monitored. However, on CNN we all have seen many tanker truck accidents involving burning hydrocarbons which have made bridge structures unusable. How hard would it be to have a few terrorists steal trucks and drive them (as opposed to hijacking planes and flying them) to strategic bridges over wide rivers or narrow gorges, ignite the gasoline (or diesel or crude), block the approaches with other incendiary or chemical releases, and make the structures extremely dangerous and impassible to highway traffic? Gotcha!

There are many variations of these themes. You probably have or can make up many more plausible, novel, and easily implemented rural-specific attack scenarios. Design exercises around them. If you want to stop terrorist events you must think like a terrorist and quit fighting last year's war!

Peace, thanks, Fred

Get out of Australia, 'radical' Muslims told
AFP ^ | 24 August , 2005 | Lawrence Bartlett

Posted on 02/06/2006 7:01:50 PM MST by george76

Muslims who want to live under the Islamic Sharia law were told Wednesday to get out of Australia as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.

A day after a group of mainstream Muslim leaders pledged loyalty to Australia at a special meeting with Prime Minister John Howard, he and his ministers made it clear that extremists would face a crackdown.

Treasurer Peter Costello, seen as heir apparent to Howard, hinted that some radical clerics could be asked to leave the country if they did not accept that Australia was a secular state and its laws were made by parliament.

"If those are not your values, if you want a country which has Sharia law or a theocratic state, then Australia is not for you," he said on national television.

Education Minister Brendan Nelson later told reporters that Muslims who did not want to accept local values should "clear off".

Muslim schools will have to denounce terrorism as part of an effort to stamp out home-grown extremism under measures announced after Howard's meeting with 14 Islamic leaders Tuesday.

Asked if he was prepared to "get inside" mosques and schools to ensure there was no support for terrorism, Howard said: "Yes, to the extent necessary".

Britain, shaken by the rail and bus bombings which killed 56 people, is debating new powers which could include closing mosques where clerics are suspected of supporting extremists and deporting those who glorify suicide bombers.

Sarkozy Unveils New Laws To Expel Foreign workers
The Telegraph (UK) ^ | 2-7-2006 | Henry Samuel

Sarkozy unveils new laws to expel foreign workers

By Henry Samuel in Paris
(Filed: 07/02/2006)

Nicolas Sarkozy, France's interior minister and presidential hopeful, has unveiled tougher rules on immigration, making it easier to expel foreign workers or those refusing to integrate.

The proposals included in a draft law, which Mr Sarkozy will present to the cabinet on Thursday, aim to change the very nature of immigration into France.

Mr Sarkozy: hard-line

"We no longer want immigration that is inflicted [on us]," he said. "We want selected immigration. The system of integration the French way no longer works," he told Le Journal du Dimanche in an interview.

The draft law calls for the creation of a points system for students and workers that gives them rankings depending on the country of origin and their field of work and study.

Workers who could "contribute to the economic dynamism of our country", such as scientists, IT experts or artists, would be given a three-year work permit.

Students taking courses that are in less demand would be given priority in obtaining visas to study at universities.

Immigrants applying for lengthy stays would have to respect a list of obligations as part of a new "contract of welcome and integration".

These include learning French and actively looking for a job. In return, they would be "protected against discrimination" and given 10-year residency permits.

Immigrants failing to respect human rights would face expulsion.

"In the case of a woman kept hostage in her home without learning French, the whole family will be obliged to leave," Mr Sarkozy said.

The law also makes it harder for an illegal immigrant to gain residency status by marrying a French person.

The new spouse must now wait three years instead of 18 months to apply, then prove that he has made efforts to integrate into his new home.

Only five per cent of legal immigrants came to France for work, said Mr Sarkozy, who heads the ruling UMP party. The remainder arrived to join family members.

While that right is guaranteed under the European convention on human rights, Mr Sarkozy pointed out that "a foreigner wanting his family to join him would have to prove that he can support them through his salary".

Under the proposals, companies that employ foreign workers illegally would have to pay for their repatriation.

Immigration is expected to be a central issue in next year's presidential elections, partly because of France's worst urban rioting in almost four decades at the end of last year.

Mr Sarkozy's hard-line response to the violence, perpetrated in large part by descendants of African immigrants living in poor neighbourhoods, helped lift his popularity.

In the interview, he rejected the zero immigration policy of the far-Right National Front, calling it "technically impossible and counter-productive".

But the "clandestine prize" which gives illegal immigrants permanent residency if they stay in the country for more than 10 years unnoticed is expected to be scrapped under the new laws.

Mr Sarkozy's proposals were criticised by the Left and by Patrick Weil, one of France's leading immigration specialists.

Mr Weil said Mr Sarkozy's previous law - introduced only three years ago - had not yet had time to take effect and that the new proposals amounted to a political "façade" to lure the extreme-Right vote.

We must show our opposition to Islam, says Danish queen
Telegraph UK ^ | April 15, 2005 | Hannah Cleaver

Posted on 02/04/2006 4:19:53 PM MST by frankjr

Queen Margrethe II of Denmark has called on the country "to show our opposition to Islam", regardless of the opprobium such a stance provokes abroad.

Her comments further undermined the image of Denmark as a liberal haven for those seeking a new life in northern Europe.

The Danish government has already been accused of fuelling xenophobia by introducing measures which effectively closed the country to asylum seekers.

But in overtly political passages from an official biography published yesterday Queen Margrethe makes comments certain to complicate her nation's relationship with Muslims.

She said: "We are being challenged by Islam these years - globally as well as locally. It is a challenge we have to take seriously. We have let this issue float about for too long because we are tolerant and lazy.

"We have to show our opposition to Islam and we have to, at times, run the risk of having unflattering labels placed on us because there are some things for which we should display no tolerance."

"And when we are tolerant, we must know whether it is because of convenience or conviction."

The Queen, who turns 65 tomorrow and has reigned since 1972, wields no political power but does occasionally comment on political issues.

N. Korea: Armed Men Attack N. Korea's Tumen Border (Cross-Border Raid by Dissidents)
Donga Ilbo ^ | 02/07/06 | Zu Sung-ha

Posted on 02/06/2006 9:25:41 PM MST by TigerLikesRooster

/begin my translation

N. Korea: Armed Men Attack N. Korea's Tumen Border

It is revealed that, just before the Lunar New Year's Day, multiple (armed) attacks on border guard by unidentified men occurred along N. Korea's northern border area.

Especially, indications are that some of attackers were carrying automatic weapons and their movements are well-coordinated, leading us to wonder about their background.

Multiple Attacks: According to the sources on N. Korea, on the evening of Jan. 28, a border guard at Namyang Worker's District, Onsung County, N. Hamkyong Province, spotted a few men crossing Tumen River from Kai-san-tun area of China, and attempted to arrest them. A struggle erupted between the guard and the men, and the guard was dead with 38 stab wounds. In principle, two guards as a unit are to be stationed for duty, but the senior of the two went to the village for drinks and the dead guard was alone at the post, according to the report.

The noise of struggle tipped soldiers at the neighboring guard post a few hundred meters away, and the reinforcement came. A pursuit ensued. Feeling pressed, those unidentified attackers ditched their backpacks and escaped to China.

From the abandoned backpacks, three disassembled rifles, ammunition, a cam corder, and Chinese cell phones were recovered. It is not yet exactly known what type of rifles they carried.

Approximately the same time, at the Hoiryong City, 40km away from the site of the incident, unidentified men crossed the Tumen River and fired at a city street and borderguard barracks, and then hurried back to China. There were no return fires from N. Korean soldiers or N. Korean casualties, according to the source.

It is also revealed that similar shooting incidents occurred in Musan County and another location.

Organized Resistance by N. Korea Defectors?: Up to now, we had sporadic incidents of armed N. Korean soldiers crossing the border into China, and committed robbery(or banditry.) On Jan. 17, 8 armed N. Korea soldiers attacked Rang-sui Coal Mine at Tumen City, located in Yanbian Ethnic Korean Autonomous Area, in which one N. Korean soldier is killed and three were arrested. However, it is unprecedented that armed men sneaked into heavily guarded N. Korea and created shooting incidents. It would create serious repercussion.

N. Korean authorities suspect that a dissident group made up of N. Korean defectors are showing their presence through this cross-border raids, according to the source.

In Northern N. Korean area, a rumor is spreading fast, saying, 'They are the work of N. Korean defectors who went to the South.' This rumor says that N. Korean defectors who are not doing well in S. Korea are trying to break into N. Korea and record their actions in order to sell their footages to U.S.. Another rumor alleges that some group is out to sabotage N. Korean-China relation after Kim Jong-il's visit to China.

N. Korean authorities declared the state of emergency and banned movement in this area on Jan. 24, due to Foot-and-Mouth disease since the end of last year in this area. The news of armed attacks compounded the tense atmosphere already triggered by the outbreak of Foot-and-Mouth disease.

The two spots marked with red characters and "explosion" symbol are the site of armed attacks. The top one is for the stab attack at Namyang Worker's District, the one below for the shooting incident at Hoiryong City. The diagram in the box at the upper-left illustrates how the event at Namyang ensued

Weapons of "disruption" could not be recognized as terrorism since they would not appear to be so.

Terrorists like to make big statements.

This would not happen. Wildfires? Please. What nonsense.

Russia must begin the training, arming Venezuela's armed forces against US threat of invasion
Vheadline.com (Pravda of Venezuela) ^ | Feb 5, 2006 | Kenneth T. Tellis

Posted on 02/06/2006 9:06:22 PM MST by Thunder90

Date: Feb 5, 2006 3:08 PM From: Kenneth T. Tellis kenttellis@gmail.com To: Editor@VHeadline.com Subject: The time for Russia to act in defense of its own interests

As long as the Russian nation sits back and accepts the world situation as a fait accompli Russia is doomed to medocrity ... but Russia can and must put its own interests before all.

Perhaps the Russian families who lost their sons, fathers and youth in Afghanistan, might do well to remember who created that situation for them. It was the US that spent millions of dollars in a proxy war, fought by US-armed, equipped and trained Mujahedeen fighters.

The real enemy of the Russian motherland is the United States of America ... even in its disguise of a friend.

The US fooled the world since 1950, by sending high altitude spy-planes over the Soviet Union ... of the 100 spy-planes that were used, all 100 were shot down by the Soviets. Only eight of the US airmen survived ... of these seven were sent to internment camps in Siberia and the other, Francis Gary powers of U2 fame, was exchanged for a Soviet spy captured by the US.

It is time for Russia to take part in training and arming those nations now under US occupation or those nations the US intends to invade in the near future. Russia must begin the training of and arming of the Iraqi Mujahedeen ... it must also begin to help with the training of Venezuela's armed forces, because it is expected that the United States will invade that country under a lame excuse to get control of its oilfields.

But there are other countries in the world that need Russian help ... like the Islamic Republic of Iran, Syria and the forces of the New Palestine ... which has been hard-pressed by the US and its Middle Eastern ally. These should be the beginning of an all-out Russian political move to disperse US threats to sovereign nations.

Russia, should now be in a position to pay the US back for its Afghan debacle.

Perhaps, when US families find that their kin are being slaughtered by Mujahedeen. like Soviet soldiers were, they'll think twice about getting involved in more invasions overseas.

Iran produces sophisticated rocket
Iranian ^ | Feb 6, 2006 | upi

Posted on 02/06/2006 8:58:09 PM MST by Flavius

Iran kicked off Monday the mass production of Mithaq-2, a new shoulder-fired surface-to-air rocket successfully tested last year.

The Iranian News Agency, IRNA, said the ceremony inaugurating this new military production line was attended by Minister of Defense Gen. Mustafa Najjar, who noted that the new rocket is capable of intercepting and destroying air targets and confronting electronic war.

Najjar said the production of this type of weapon will increase the deterrence capacity of Iran's military forces.

He said the rocket will be used by the various regular army units, the Revolutionary Guards and reserve troops, improving the defenses of Iranian air space.

Najjar also pointed out that Iran's military productions are efficient and include surface-to-air, surface-to-surface and air to surface rockets, as well as anti-tank rockets.

Russia reaffirms one-China policy (Opposes Taiwan independence)
Xinhuanet ^ | 2-7-2006 | Xinhuanet

MOSCOW, Feb. 6 (Xinhuanet) -- Russia said in a statement on Monday that it firmly opposes "Taiwan independence" in any form and adheres to the one-China policy.

"Lately, Taiwanese authorities have made several statements that became a matter of serious concern to Russia. In particular, we were bewildered by the ideas put forth by Chen Shui-bian on January 29, which run counter to his earlier promises and commitments," Itar-Tass reported, citing a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"His (Chen Shui-bian's) intention to liquidate the National Reunification Council and give up the program of national reunification indicates that the Taiwanese leadership is not interested in building constructive dialogue with the mainland. This may be regarded as a movement towards the independence of Taiwan," the ministry said.

"To the best of our knowledge, such steps are at variance with the expectations of the majority of people in Taiwan. Not only do they fail to pursue the interests of maintaining peace and stability (across the Taiwan Strait) ... but they are also fraught with serious consequences for the Asia Pacific region as a whole,"it added.

Russia firmly believes that "there is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is its inalienable part," the ministry stressed.

This position is "expressly stated in the Russian-Chinese Treaty of Good Neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation of July 16, 2001, and in a number of Russian-Chinese documents, and is not subject to change", it said. Enditem

I think you might have seen what is not meant to see, glad you are reading here, it would not be fun, to post to myself.

Does anyone think that it is strange, that russia issues all these edicts, on a day when we as a world are watching the cartoon riots?

Above is a N. Korea thread, about being attacked from the China border, possibly by the N. Korea men who escaped from N. Korea.

Russia is now banded and openly with every enemy that we have in the world.

It was not my intention to move the F.R. front page to our thread, but these are stories that I would have been tempted to search out, if I had known they were coming down.

Freepers, have so much information, that I wouldn't have by simply reading a newspaper report.

Feels as tho something is going to bust out and it is going to take a whole lot of praying to stop it.

And a very wise President Bush, but how he will do it I do not know, after today's senate fools have tried to stop him.

Is that what the fool senators know and we don't, that russia is on the move and America can be overtaken and will go communist like the rest of the world?

McCain Says Putin Is Undermining Russian Democracy
Bakutoday ^ | 2-5-2006 | RFE/RL

Posted on 02/06/2006 11:18:12 PM MST by Stellar Dendrite

U.S. Senator John McCain has strongly criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin for what he characterized as the undermining of democracy in Russia and abroad.

McCain made his comments in a speech at an international security conference in the German city of Munich.

The U.S. senator, a presidential candidate in 2000, said Russia appears to be pursuing autocracy both at home and abroad. He also said he seriously questioned whether the member states of the G-8 group of industrialized nations should attend a G-8 summit scheduled to be hosted by Russia in St. Petersburg later this year.

McCain also criticized Moscow for using its natural gas resources as a means of punishing democratic Ukraine and Georgia while providing cut-rate gas supplies to a dictatorship in Belarus.

LONDON, England -- London police were under pressure to arrest Muslim protesters who carried signs threatening death and terrorist attacks at a demonstration over cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed.

Scotland Yard received more than 100 complaints after Friday's protest outside the Danish Embassy, the UK's Press Association reported.

Police said they would study video of the demonstrators taken by specialist officers, The Sun newspaper reported, and a police spokeswoman told PA that any arrests would be made "at the appropriate time."

SASABE, Ariz. The feds recover pot stuffed inside vegetable cans that a man is accused of trying to bring through the border checkpoint at Sasabe (SAS'-uh-bee).

Customs and Border Protection says federal officers inspected the man's truck last week after answers given by the occupants aroused suspicion.

The statement says officers decided to open a can because it looked and felt unusual. They found a package of marijuana inside and began to open other cans.

Officers also found marijuana in the hollowed-out sides of an ice chest.

Altogether, they seized 34 pounds of marijuana.

The driver was arrested and turned over to immigration agents.

Global Deception - The UN's Stealth Assault on America's Freedom
Gun Owners ^ | Jan 2006 | Larry Pratt

The UN, left to itself, will end up giving corruption and socialism a bad name. Joseph Klein has written Global Deception to show why. He pinpoints the UN's greatest threat in his subtitle: The UN's Stealth Assault on America's Freedom.

The corruption of the UN leadership, and its heavy hitter supporters such as Canadian oil billionaire, Maurice Strong, is a litany of hypocrisy on a par with the glitterati of Hollywood. "Do as I say, not as I do."

Most readers are aware of Kofi Annan, the pious critic of greedy capitalists, who plunged so deeply into the Oil for Food scandal that he smells like an Iraqi oil well. Perhaps not as many are familiar with Maurice Strong who wants Americans to lose millions of job and to live in poverty so that his earth-hugging theories can be imposed on America -- and the rest of the West. Strong is a Malthusian through and through who "knows" that it is impossible for Mother Earth to support as many people as are presently living. (Ever wonder why environmentalists don't want DDT used that could have saved the millions who have died from malaria?)

This is continued and includes guns and supplies.

Muslim Cartoon Protestor was Drug Dealer
BBC NEWS ONLINE ^ | 7th February 2006 | BBC

Posted on 02/07/2006 2:07:16 AM MST by Brit_Guy

A Muslim demonstrator who imitated a suicide bomber in London to protest over cartoons satirising the Prophet Muhammad is a convicted drug dealer. Omar Khayam, 22, of Bedford, was jailed in 2002 and released on licence last year after serving half of his sentence for dealing heroin and cocaine.

It is believed probation officers are now reviewing his case.

Khayam has apologised to those affected by the 7 July bombs, saying his protest was as "insensitive" as the cartoons.

He was given five-and-a-half years in prison in December 2002.

The demonstration outside London's Danish embassy on Friday and Saturday mirrored protests throughout Europe and Asia over the cartoons, which were first printed in a Danish paper.

Downing Street has said the behaviour of some Muslim protesters in London was "completely unacceptable".

Asif Nadim, from a Bedford mosque, said the Muslim community distanced itself from Khayam's actions and supported his apology.

Home Secretary Charles Clarke said any decisions on arrest and prosecution were "properly matters for the police and prosecution authorities".

He said that the reaction to the cartoons across Britain had "in general been respectful and restrained".

Protests have continued throughout the world, with five people being killed in Afghanistan, and a boy killed in Somalia when demonstrations turned violent.

Rallies have also taken place in India, Thailand, Indonesia, Iran and Gaza, following attacks on Danish embassies in Syria and Lebanon over the weekend.

The cartoons were first published in a Danish newspaper last year and republished in Europe last week.

I look at it (the world situation) as a healing crisis. Sometimes when a patient has an illness with fever, the fever has to get to a certain point before it "breaks". With chicken pox and (IIRC) measles, the spots have to come out before the fever can break.

The world has a sickness, with varied symptoms. Islamic jihad is but one of them. People need to wake up to the many false beliefs that are the foundation of the sickness. Just think of this: Suppose Islamic Jihad were over tomorrow, all Muslims did what I think they should do, which is look to their forebears, realize they are all descendents of those who were forcibly converted at the point of a scimitar, and all converted back to the religion of their ancestors - Buddhist, Jain, Christian, Jew, Hindu, Parsi, animist. What a better world.

Imagine all Communists were defeated at the same time - they all gave up their utopian fantasies and mad power trips. What do we have left still? The evils of feminism, homosexualism, "sex positivism", the grossest of gross "me first" consumerism and entertainment that teaches little kids to view themselves and others as sex objects, the destruction of family and respect for parents and elders, the mad rush towards instant gratification at the expense of eternal life. The ACLU and Planned Parenthood, the hatred towards every vestige of religious expression.

The sickness doesn't just emanate from foreign countries. And I know you know this too!
