Anyone else spending Christmas Eve alone?
The bizarro world of brother skooz | 12/24/2014 | Skooz

Hello all. Sitting here at home and wondering if anyone else out there is spending this evening alone.

On this night of all nights when families gather and friends share gifts and time, some of us are, for various reasons, spending Christmas Eve solo.

Not necessarily a bad thing - alone doesn't always mean lonely. But, it does mean alone.

Check in if that includes any of you, my fellow Freepers.

You sound powerful and ready. I agree with FRiends. You aren’t helping anyone as that buffer now, or enabler. I was, too, for a long time. Then he quit, and nothing changed. Except the alcohol consumption. No other changes. The same personality of blaming others and retreating. Depression and inertia. We are separated until he shows any effort at all toward us. Holding my breath, ha ha ha.

Yes, dry drunk or dipping into some other compensatory evil.

I worked with a couple people who were recovering alcoholics...they invited me to one of their meetings which I expected to hear such awful stories of hardhip...when in fact the problems they faced really were pretty much what most people face.

I came away realizing that some just haven’t learned or don’t know how to live and surpass their hardships...so they escape via drugs and booze....until it hooks them.

I’m not happy to see that so many are alone on Christmas Eve, but I’m at least relieved that I’m not the only one.

I haven’t read through the thread yet, but I did see Be-Baw’s post that he/she doesn’t care for the aloneness. I’m so in agreement, Be-Baw. My husband and my parents have all passed. I have no kids, nor do I have siblings. I do have cousins spread out all over the U.S., and they have their own families (married kids and grandkids). I do Christmas, my birthday, and all holidays alone and I do NOT like it. I’m always relieved when life starts getting back to normal after January 1. I’m still alone, but the aloneness isn’t so magnified like it is during the holiday season.

The best thing about Christmas to me is that it happened — that a Savior was born to reconcile the world to the Father. So as bad as the loneliness gets, I am always profoundly grateful that God’s plan of redemption was manifest when a tiny baby was born under the most unlikely of circumstances to save and deliver me and whoever calls on His Name. There will be a time when I will never be lonely again. I can’t tell you how much I look forward to that time!

BTW, I’m not entirely alone tonight. I have the two most wonderful dogs on the planet, and I delight in their company. So, since the Lord is ever present and the dogs are here, there are four of us commemorating the Savior’s birth.

God bless y’all and all the FReepers.

I think after 25 years it’s, well, just everything.

I’ve heard all sorts of contrivances.

Crap that there is no way it happened.

Like he watched every episode of Jerry Springer and is acting out those scenes.

He has been in the entertainment field for 25 years and some people get caught up in the partying, not realizing it’s a business.

I’ve heard entertainers galore tell him he needs to move out of this lifestyle. People you would be familiar with.

He just keeps going.

Hell, he had an investor last month will to finance one of his scripts.

Well, he flew to Vegas for a meeting.

Somehow he ended up staying two weeks.

Have no idea where he got the money but, when he came back it was a real hassle just trying to pick him up from the airport.

He never showed up curbside. He called two hours later saying he was someplace clear across town.

Went to pick him up and sure enough, again, he was not there.

In fact, after his mom finally got him to tell us where he was at it turned out he was downtown and uhm...drunk.

So we show up to take him home and he’s pretending to call a credit card company.

His card had been denied and be was probably playing it until the right moment, so he could walk. He’s done that so many times.

His mom payed the bill, he got in the car and immediately started in with the “I’m hungry” routine.

Really agitated.

We told him we have two refrigerators full of food and a walk in pantry.

Just wouldn’t stop.

Got him though and made him a sandwich.

He ate like some slob. It was really awful.

Then when he had conjured up his story started crying and lamenting this investor made a fool of him.

Just wailing.

The next day, he starts the whining routine again.

I informed of the truth.

“You went to Vegas and did exaclty what you said you weren’t going to do and predictably the same results ensued”.

“You dont know! You weren’t there!” He blurted

“Why, no I wasn’t but, there seems to be a predictable common denominator for all your problems. In fact, there are two: You and booze”.

Time to toss a grenade and deflect.

“You drink and I should be able to....too!”

“Uhm, my sobriety is not an issue, nor is my ability to function as an adult”. I responded

Needless to say, that’s how it always goes.

Every frickin time.

Heck, he likes to point out everyone’s faults, if only to deflect and dilute his problem.

I have better things to do.

I wish but, so long as she is not being a momma bird and kicking him out of the nest, he can never fly.

It’s stupid and sad.

There is no reason to live like this and ultimately become a beggar to everyone.

Fk that.

I was in college, living on my own at 15.

I’d rather walk on glass so I can get to the other side and do the things I want.

I once went snowboarding with this hapless being.

Brought a couple extra boards and boots. We wear the same size.

He pouted the entire day Telling me and his mom he should have his own board.

I laughed and told him to pick whichever one he wanted and it was his.

He actually said he wanted a brand new board and not some cheap cast off.

“Well, lemme add this up. Thise boards have barely been used and the boots too.

Any one of those board cost $1,000.

The boots $250

And the bindings were $200-$300.

The helmets are brand new but cost around $100

The goggles? Whatever, take a couple.

You’ll need two pair of gloves. As you sweat, you change em out mid day.

Nope.

He sat in my car all day. His mom stayed in the lodge.

They were on the California side and I spent the day on the Nevada side, as the best and longest runs are over there.

I took a ski bus back to the lodge.

I’ll never go to Tahoe with this moron again.

And I still have thise boards and they practically never got used and I have several more.

That’s the mentality he has and for the life of me I don’t get it.

He would have nearly $2,000 bucks worth of gear if he had accepted them.

Nothing wrong with them. I just decided I wanted some new shiny object that I saw someone else using or because someone suggested it.

Free is no good?

Gimme a break.

I wish someone would give me something.

WOw! Obvious the family has been enabling him...and needs to stop believing him...he knows he has a problem...they dynamics are typical don’t you think?.. to those of famiy members attempting to help.

My son was staying with my other son after his marriage break up, (His fault of course), to help him get on his feet...three years later he was still there and would have continued to mooch had my other son not come to his senses and realized he was being played.

Now we wait...and continue to pray. Although my son and his wife do call him every few weeks... they advised me not to try and reach him because better he goes it alone.

Moms need to know you can’t fix what your kids break when they are adults....they have to.

A gal asking him to move in?

Ho no way!

He’d strip her soul.

Not being mean in the slightest.

He uses people.

He has never worked.

I’ve seen that movie and it’s a disaster.

You got it.

Man, I never once asked my parents for money.

I’d live in a cardboard box before that happens.
