There were 20 heavily armed guys at your door asking nicely for your weapon, to be turned over to them in the name of “law” as an effort of a government that wanted to calm down a chaotic situation.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

If so, politely request to see a court order of seizure and confiscation. Try to get a copy of it duly signed, along with the supporting signed affidavit if there is one.

No sense having a shoot out resulting in death, unless you have a whole gang of patriots with you. Larger numbers can make the police back down.

The 2nd amendment survives because of Freedom of Assembly and Freedom to travel.

Whatever you do, do not navigate so the seizure can be done in secret without public scrutiny.

"And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?... The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If...if...We didn't love freedom enough. And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation.... We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.” ― Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

And those 20 have a home address, and family as do those that sent them

"There were 20 heavily armed guys at your door asking nicely for your weapon..."

That works when there are only a few people here and there with guns.
But with conservative estimates of about 1/3 of Americans owning guns - that's more than 100 million gun owners with 300+ million guns and a trillion rounds of ammo, and the news of confiscation occurring at the speed of electrons - don't see his scenario as sustainable.
Luckily, I'm not one of those gun-owners, so....

If one waits for them to come to the door one has waited to long for sure.

Every gun owner should read Unintended Consequences by John Ross if they ever think they might be involve in defending their 2nd amendment rights.

Do you really think that when the time comes that the government will send two pale clerks to search your home looking for whatever weapon?

Nope.

There were 20 heavily armed guys at your door asking nicely for your weapon, to be turned over to them in the name of “law”. And those 20 have a home address, and family as do those that sent them.

Yep. And being the good, patriotic, compliant Americans that we are, we will do those good and faithful servants of the American people the courtesy of bringing those illegal firearms to them, along with large stores of ammunition.

"But with conservative estimates of about 1/3 of Americans owning guns"

According to Gallup, 63% of Americans believe that having a gun in the home makes it a safer place to be. I think that's closer to the real number. If you thought that having a smoke alarm in your home made it safer, you would have one, wouldn't you?

A stranger asking if someone owns a gun, or has cash, drugs or other valuables in the home probably isn't going to get very accurate answers.

"More Than Six in 10 Americans Say Guns Make Homes Safer"

So I think it's about 2/3 of US households that own guns.

When the government tells you you don’t need those guns; that’s when you need those guns the most.

"There is, of course, the possible danger to get comments like 'What the hell do you know Selco? You are not American, shut up!'"

Selco, I'll disagree with you again here. ;-)

That was very well considered and well written with future possibilities for any nation in mind. Good job!

And yes, "Before destruction comes pride,..." (Solomon).

He’s hardly an idiot. While you may not agree with his editorial - and that’s really what it is, the guy didn’t survive the Bosnian conflict and keep his family alive by being an idiot. While I don’t agree with everything Selco professes, he’s got a lot of insight into human nature and the monopoly on violence that every government thirsts for.

His ability to get some people to think outside their comfort zone is fascinating. Your post is an good example.

I find it ironic that someone so concerned with gun rights would voluntarily move to a country where there are ... none.
