The unexpected victory of Donald Trump in 2016 is not a sign of recrudescent conservatism but, for traditionalists, actually a desperate last stand. Despite the purplish enthusiasm of conservative Evangelicals for Trump, he is properly seen as a kind of culture-war katechon — a restraining force holding back the mob. As a prominent Evangelical leader confided to me last year, ‘We know that when he goes, we’re done.’ Après Donald, le déluge.

I've been thinking this for a while now. In the long run next year's election may not mean anything, no matter how it comes out.

Is there a limit to how many articles one may publish that I’m not aware of on this site?
After your comment about this I thought perhaps he’s posted this article consecutively and repeatedly so, I scrolled through 4 pages of the latest FR postings of “everything” and did not find any previous postings of this title.
So, what’s your issue?

The problem with corporations is that they are cowardly. And rarely Conservative.

The problem with Conservatives is that they possess memories like goldfish, have short term thinking, and rarely fight.

The left are the opposite. While their rank and file/grass roots are even dumber than our conservative christian base , their evil leadership is wickedly smart and deviously cunning. And their leaders have long term plans and goals of total domination over their enemies.

This is why the left wants the scalp of Trump. Because Pence has shown himself to be a weak eunuch.

140,000,000 Trump Voters (and Families) must start the same effort towards the HATE FILLED left. Boycott, really BOYCOTT, Leftist companies or shut up already. There are brands I won’t touch. If 139,999,999 did same things would change.

I remember that when the first two states had their constitutional marriage amendments overturned by federal courts. But the outrage at the homosexual agenda wasn’t about that.

The outrage at the time was all about some cable TV channel that suspended a reality TV star over his correct opinion of gay marriage. The ratings of this show then went through the roof. They sold all this merchandise for this thing after they suspended him. Both parties made a lot of money over it. Eventually both parties made up so they could do more meaningful reality TV.

There must have been 100 threads about this kabuki theatre reality TV show outrage for every 1 about the first two actual states having their constitutions violated by the courts.

That’s when I knew we were in trouble.

Times change and taking the attitude that we have already lost is unhelpful.

It’s time to push back instead of holding the line.

We need reactionaries not conservatives.

Well said. The article talks about how Indiana Republicans, including Pence, caved over their religious freedom bill, because Apple pressured them. As I recall, Apple threatened to disallow selling their products there. My reaction would have been "Go ahead, make my day". Next, conservatives in other conservative states should have passed the identical bill and told Apple, "Go ahead don't sell it in our state either". Would Cook really have been willing to eliminate that much of his sales? If so, who cares? Or he would have been forced to back down. Also, I won't buy Apple products because of that, but all these Christian conservatives just can't live without their freaking iPhones (or they don't even recall the whole episode).

Contrast that episode with Anita Bryant years ago. She took a conservative stand on homosexuality. Gay rights groups demanded that the orange juice growers drop her as their spokeswoman. Their supporters absolutely wouldn't drink orange juice as long as they kept her on. Guess who won that - even though gay rights supporters weren't very numerous then?

What an incredibly long-winded article saying everything that we already know. And that said yes it is absolutely sad the Chick-fil-A caved in and they will be shaken down and probably take him down to the roots and the company will not ever be the same. But on an individual basis I have not thrown in the towel and neither has anybody else on this board thrown in the towel to the culture War. We are Fighters and that is who we are. So to say that the culture war is lost is a complete lie from the pit of Hell. I’m really tired of people who just give up.

Any Republican who cares what the media says about him/her will turn out to be basically useless. As we know, Trump doesn’t care about that. A worthy successor to Trump would have that same characteristic. Hopefully someone will emerge (after Trump hopefully is reelected). Cruz may have what it takes.

BS, this article is defeatist Never-Trump drivel. The trends on abortion are strongly pro-life and that issue alone is waking up millennials. Mainline Christianity has been irrelevant for more than 50 years after it abandoned genuine faith. Trump is hardly tearing Evangelicalism apart, he is unifying it and exposing those frauds that have hidden within its ranks. Contrary to this article, there are many reasons to be optimistic. It’s always darkest before the dawn.

I just read this in The Federalist and I hope this thread will accept a small diversion.

This is about that creep Christopher Wray and Wray is taken to the woodshed. Hopefully, that cretin will be dismissed shortly.
