Democratic Rep. Josh Gottheimer (N.J.) said Monday that a letter announcing his resignation that appeared to be from him is “completely untrue,” NorthJersey.com reports. "This disgusting smear campaign is a violation of federal law and is being criminally investigated by the U.S. Capitol Police," he said. "I am confident that they will quickly identify and pursue charges against the perpetrators responsible for this crime." The letter, dated July 29, appears to be on official congressional letterhead and falsely claims that Gottheimer had a sexual relationship with one of his staffers, the outlet reports. It’s unclear how many officials received it....

GOP Sen. Rand Paul offered to buy Rep. Ilhan Omar a ticket to Somalia so she could learn to “appreciate America more.” “While I’m not saying we forcibly send her anywhere, I’m willing to contribute to buy her a ticket to go visit Somalia, and I think she could look and maybe learn a little bit about the disaster that is Somalia – that has no capitalism, has no God-given rights guaranteed in a constitution, and has about seven different tribes that have been fighting each other for the last 40 years,” the Kentucky Republican told Breitbart in an interview...

A crash involving at least two vehicles on the Garden State Parkway on Monday left a car pinned against the center barrier nearly perpendicular to the road. No one was seriously hurt in in the crash, which took place on the southbound side near milepost Exit 82 in Toms River, State Police said. Photos from the scene taken by Jersey Sure News Network show the nose of a car against the road while the two-door car leans against a pick-up truck with heavy front-end damage.
  • Cop accuses McDonald's employee of biting his food, forgot that he bit it himself

In this case of “Who bit my burger?!,” it turns out it was the cop the whole time. In a strange twist, an Indiana police officer is apologizing to a McDonald’s after accusing someone at the restaurant of taking a bite out of his food. Apparently, the officer had taken the bite himself before re-wrapping the sandwich to save it for later — and forgot that he had done so. In mid-July, the officer stopped by a McDonald’s in Indianapolis and ordered a McChicken sandwich, along with fries and a cookie, WTHR reports. He apparently took a bite out of...

Crazy Bernie Sanders recently equated the City of Baltimore to a THIRD WORLD COUNTRY! Based on that statement, I assume that Bernie must now be labeled a Racist, just as a Republican would if he used that term and standard! The fact is, Baltimore can be brought back, maybe...... ....even to new heights of success and glory, but not with King Elijah and that crew. When the leaders of Baltimore want to see the City rise again, I am in a very beautiful oval shaped office waiting for your call!

At least one gunman opened fire Sunday at Northern California’s Gilroy Garlic Festival, killing at least three and injuring 15, before being fatally shot by police stationed nearby who responded in less than a minute after the initial shot was fired, a police official said. The shooting rampage began at 5:41 p.m. on the north side of the festival, Chief of Police Scot Smithee said at a press conference late Sunday. Smithee said the gunman gained access to the festival by cutting through a fence near a creek area. He said some witnesses reported a second suspect, but police could...

Establish a U.S. Department of Peace A U.S. Department of Peace is a major step in dismantling America's systemically entrenched culture of violence. ‍ I want to talk to you about waging peace. From millions of chronically traumatized children to mass incarceration to family separation at the border, the United States has no more serious problem than the problem of violence itself. And yet, even as the current administration starves the international peace-building capacities of the State Department, we have no federal platform from which to seriously wage peace domestically. We need both. Through support of my candidacy for president...

By all accounts, he was a doting dad to his year-old, twin son and daughter, setting up a bouncy castle in the yard for their recent first birthday party and dressing them in their latest cute outfits while his wife made breakfast in their Rockland County split-level. Then, on Saturday, Juan Rodriguez, 39, was hauled handcuffed before a judge, charged with the babies’ hot-car deaths. He forgot to drop them off at their day care Friday morning, Rodriguez has told cops — and didn’t realize they were still in the back seat when he parked at the Bronx hospital where...

Ed Perlmutter still hasn’t got a caucus vote. But he’s stopped pushing Rep. Ed Perlmutter, the lead negotiator for a group of Democrats who pushed Speaker Nancy Pelosi to agree to limit her leadership tenure to four more years, is no longer pushing for the Democratic Caucus to adopt leadership term limits as part of its rules. “We’re just letting it sit right now,” the Colorado Democrat said. Last year, after Democrats won back the House in the 2018 midterms, Pelosi struck a handful of deals that helped secure the votes she needed to be elected speaker again. One of...

  • Second GOP congressman this week announces retirement (Olson, Mitchell)

U.S. Rep. Pete Olson of Texas announced Thursday he would not seek re-election after his current term, becoming the second Republican congressman this week to do so. Olson's retirement could set up a fierce battle in his district, which was once a safe Republican district but has become increasingly Democratic, and national Democrats have made it clear they are focusing on Texas as a battleground state in 2020. Olson's decision comes one day after Rep. Paul Mitchell of Michigan, announced his own retirement. Like Mitchell, he said his family was a big factor. "As someone who has long advocated for...
  • De Blasio’s $58M bike safety plan panned by drivers — and cyclists

Mayor Bill de Blasio is finally bringing cyclists and drivers together — against him. Following the deaths of 17 Big Apple cyclists this year, Hizzoner announced Thursday a $58.4 million bike-safety plan that will expand bike lanes, redesign perilous intersections and sic cops on dangerous drivers — enraging motorists over the loss of “thousands” of parking spaces and sending cycling advocates in a tizzy that the plan isn’t going far enough. “It cannot go on like this,” de Blasio said of the 17 cyclists killed this year during an announcement at PS 170 in Bay Ridge. Under the initiative, the...

President Trump on Wednesday lashed out at an NBC News reporter who asked whether he was concerned he could be indicted after leaving office. Trump denounced the question from NBC News's Hallie Jackson, who noted that special counsel Robert Mueller in testimony earlier in the day said a president could be indicted after leaving office. Trump said it was “a very dumb and a very unfair question” to ask whether he could be indicted. He also said Mueller himself had backtracked on the issue, though that was on a separate question. “When you saw Robert Mueller’s statement. The earlier statement,...
  • NYT analysis argues surge in voter turnout in 2020 could buck norm and boost Trump

The New York Times' Nate Cohn penned an analysis piece that, bucking conventional trends, said that there is an opportunity for higher voter turnout in 2020 to actually benefit President Trump’s odds of being reelected. The UpShot analysis found that instead of the traditional wisdom that higher voter turnout just helps Democrats, there are opportunities and risks for both parties. The author based his findings on voter registration files, the validated turnout of 50,000 respondents to New York Times/Siena College pre-election surveys in 2018, polls of unregistered voters, and census data. High voter turnout typically favors Democrats because younger, nonwhite,...
  • Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg says she is ‘very much alive’

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is reminding critics that she’s not dead yet. “There was a senator, I think it was after my pancreatic cancer, who announced, with great glee, that I was going to be dead within six months. That senator, whose name I have forgotten, is now dead himself, and I am very much alive,” Ginsburg told NPR in an interview published Wednesday. And the 86-year-old justice, who survived a string of health scares, including most recently when she was treated in December for lung cancer, said she intends to stay much longer on the bench.
