HACKENSACK, N.J. – A glass canopy fell off of a high-rise condominium building and onto a parking garage two stories below on Friday, partly flattening the structure and trapping at least one person, authorities said. Rescuers can see the victim but can't get to the person because they are concerned about the possibility of another collapse at the three-story garage, Hackensack fire Lt. Stephen Lindner said. They could not determine the victim's condition. Authorities are checking out reports that two to three more people might also be trapped, Lindner said. The garage pancaked when the canopy fell on it, damaging...

We have all found ourselves riding around town looking for a place to park our car, just to find them all taken. So we decide to drive around the block a few times in the hopes that someone will leave and we can grab the spot. Then just about the time we are ready to give up the hunt, we spot a person getting into their car. Finally we have a sense of relief knowing that we will soon have a choice spot to park our car. Well in this video you will be presented with two men in...

CNN News is reporting that South Korea and more recently China have taken to reserving parking spots for women. Not pregnant women or handicapped women or elderly women, but any woman. In essence, the only one excluded from the spots are men. At least one mall has taken the measure of providing female security personnel to assist with parking and enforcement. The premium spots, now available at different types of businesses, have also been popping up in shopping areas from Germany to Singapore. A variety of reasons have been given for the measure, from protecting women from crime, to just...

Just when you thought environmental extremists couldn’t go any further, they surprise you with yet another ploy in their never-ending quest to turn back modernity. With the public push-back on the cap-and-trade scheme and creating man-made droughts to save a 2-inch fish, environmentalists have become craftier in their efforts. Always the vanguard of the latest environmental regulation, California has a new idea for getting polluters out of their cars: get rid of free parking. Last week the State Senate passed Senate Bill 518, legislation that would incentivize local governments to begin abolishing free parking spaces within their jurisdictions. The goal...

The totalitarian, anti-freedom, and anti-business policies and core ideology of the Democratic party is once again trying to make life harder and more expensive for individuals and businesses in California. Democrats in Sacramento have declared they have discovered a new “menace to California’s environment:” free parking. According to the Los Angeles Times, the Democratic lawmakers are upset that there is too much free parking in California and that encourages us to drive our cars rather than walk, take a bus, take a subway, ride a bike, or ride a horse.

Daley to apologize for parking meter problemsPosted: Tuesday, August 25, 2009 11:15 am Chicago Mayor Richard Daley says the city "totally screwed up" the implementation of a $1.15 billion lease of city parking meters to a private operator. That's according to a copy the Chicago Sun-Times obtained of a Daley speech prepared for an appearance Tuesday. The Sun-Times reports that Daley says the deal was necessary because of the city's fiscal situation. The 75-year deal approved in December quadrupled parking rates in some neighborhoods, causing a citizen outcry. Aldermen complain meters charge incorrect rates or post outdated fee information. They...

Working people frequently ask retired people what they do to make their days interesting. Well, for example, the other day my wife and I went into town and went into a shop. We were only in there for about 5 minutes. When we came out, there was a cop writing out a parking ticket. We went up to him and said, 'Come on man, how about giving a senior citizen a break?' He ignored us and continued writing the ticket. I called him a Nazi turd. He glared at me and started writing another ticket for having worn tires. So...

Busted for parking in your own driveway. Toledo residents along Holland-Sylvania near Nebraska received parking tickets in their own front yards. The mayor defended the move, then refused to answer our questions. It is illegal in Toledo to park on gravel or anything unpaved, even if it's in front of your own home. Mayor Carty Finkbeiner says if you break a law, you get a ticket.Charles Robertson breaks the law every single day-- according to the city. Robertson told us, "I just can't reach into my magic box of tricks and get 5 or 6 grand to pave my driveway."...

I spent last week staring at parking meters. And wondering if I was witnessing the beginnings of a boycott. Boycott is probably too strong a term. Quiet rebellion may be more like it. Whatever the word, on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. there were at least 10 open parking meters down one short block of Clark Street next to Lincoln Park. At noon in Wicker Park, where Milwaukee Avenue is usually packed with parked cars, there were open meters waiting. And at 2 p.m. around the Sheraton Hotel on Columbus Drive, a place where normally you can't crowbar your car into...

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- A car found in a Gainesville neighborhood with a dead body in the back seat had been ticketed seven times by city parking enforcement. A preliminary autopsy helped police identify the body as 42-year-old John Waldo, who had been missing since Feb. 11. Police say the autopsy revealed no obvious cause of death. Investigators are awaiting toxicology results, which may take up to six weeks. City records show the first ticket was...

Shopper Joanne Glunn begins ticker tape parade at Target parking lot. While NASA struggles to maintain long-duration space flight operations, an Altoona woman has set a new orbiting record and ushered in a new Parking Space Race. Joanne Glunn, a frequent mall and department store shopper, has spent the weekend in orbit around the Altoona Target parking lot looking for the perfect front row parking space. Glunn passed on several back row spaces on Saturday, awaiting splash down next to the handicapped row on Sunday. “That’s one small step for most of mankind,” said Glunn. “But a giant leap for lazy...
