First, when they torpedo this nomination, there'll be fighting in the streets.

Sadly, no there won't. If they approve him then you may see riots in the streets. Conservatives do no riot, they work for a living, Soros gives them nothing.

Don't be so sure of that. Not all Trump voters are like you and me. There are a lot of "disenfranchised" voters, at the end of their rope, who voted for Trump in the desperate hope that he could undo the destruction created by decades of leftist rule.

There are millions of them that wish they could work, and millions more stuck in godawful jobs -- hard work, low pay.

Flyover country is vast and wide, and the people living there are not all exactly thriving.

I've seen the full spectrum. I grew up in NYC, and I've lived in rural Michigan for decades. Before that, I lived in Grosse Pointe Park for a while. Then, a college town, where I had a downtown store in a struggling community.

I was appointed by the Republican governor to two terms as a Michigan HMO Commissioner -- and I've worked in vile factories for minimum wage.

Like I said, I've seen the full spectrum. "The above" barely scratches the surface. I'm pushing 70 now, so I've had plenty of time to observe, and to think. To recall what I've seen, and to analyze.

Yeah, there'll be fighting in the streets alright. There are plenty of people right on the jagged edge -- and they don't vote democrat. Don't forget where that scumbag McVeigh and his cohorts came from -- oh, right -- RURAL MICHIGAN. The same place that serves as a breeding ground for the likes of "The Michigan Militia" and many other outfits that make them seem like The Peace Corps.

There are scads of neo-nazis, for example. And I doubt they vote democrat either. And yes, they're really there, I'm not imagining it. One of them actually tried to recruit ME to the cause -- even after knowing I was a Jew!

Another one -- a "Town Father" type -- owned the big hardware store in the rural town near where I live -- erected a freestanding corkboard in the main aisle, so that no one could go to the checkout counter without passing by it.

He only tacked ONE thing on it: A few pages from a major neo-nazi publication.

Utterly shameless. And why shouldn't he be? This area was a hotbed of klan activity maybe half a century ago. I'm sure there are a fair number of attics with neatly folded sheets and hoods sitting in steamer trunks.

I've run into the exact same type in other parts of the country too -- it's NOT just a "Michigan thing" -- it's a "Rural America thing."

Conservatives working in good careers -- like when I was making $60/hr consulting for local government (back when $60/hr was good money) -- or doctors, lawyers, educators, business owners (of the prosperous variety, rather than the hardscrabble barely-surviving type)... airline pilots, long-haul truckers... the list goes on and on.

THEY won't be fighting in the streets. But they're not everyone -- and not everyone else is a leftist.

I'll close with a little anecdote -- something that happened about thirty years ago.

It was a few years after I was crippled in a serious car wreck. Rear-ended by a 19 year old backwoods slut that was hopped up on pills. Rammed me at 45 MPH while I was in my subcompact, stopped behind a stationwagon at an intersection.

It was several years after my divorce, and I was living alone. When I'd get sick -- bad sick; stuff like the flu, or sometimes just a "bad cold" that will knock you for a loop when your body has been wrecked -- I was not able to cook for myself. I could barely move around at all.

So, I'd go to the surplus store and the gun show when it was in town, and I'd stock up on cases of MREs (before Janet Reno forbade their sale to civilians).

They kept me alive until I was able to move around enough to prepare real food for myself.

So,I'm at the local gunshow -- once or twice a year they'd come to town -- shopping the tables for MREs. Finally, I found a guy with a big stack of cases. I bought several of them, and he put them on a cart to roll them out to my car for me.

While we're walking, he's talking. A mile a minute. He's agitated. He's sweating. He's red in the face. And, he's in the Michigan Militia.

He's telling me how they're expecting Janet Reno to do something major -- any minute now, with no warning. Ban all their guns or something, I can't remember what it was. What I do remember is his telling me how "We're ready for it" -- and then explaining how his car was packed with guns and ammunition and he was ready to go to war.

I was like, "Well, thank you for helping me with the MREs, I really appreciate it," and I couldn't get outta there as fast as I could!

He was typical of several other people "of that ilk" I've encountered.

No fighting in the streets because conservatives work for a living? Don't kid yourself. Don't live in the world you'd like to live in -- live in the world you DO live in -- a world that not very far beneath the veneer of civility is a seething mass of frustrated, disenfranchised people from all across the political spectrum.

I said I'd close with that anecdote, but I'm going to tack on two valuable freebies:

First, slap yourself in the face, hard, if you ever catch yourself saying -- or even thinking that, "It can't happen here."

Second, never forget what George Santayana said about never forgetting: "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

Why are you attacking someone who agrees with you?

    Go pick on a Democrat

No one attacked you. Grow a thicker skin. All I pointed out was that there isn't going to be a majority -- with or without a tie-breaker vote.

Think about it. Yesterday, every RAT in the room hammered away at him, badgering him to ask for an FBI investigation -- even though they all knew it would settle nothing!

Then, today, they tweaked flake until he caved.

If they knew an FBI investigation would accomplish a big fat NOTHING, they why were they SO intent on having one?

Basic logic: Because they had a different motive.

What does a one week delay give them? It gives them one week! What will they do with that week? The same thing they've been doing -- but with one new factor.

They will roll out more "victims" -- but now they will be able to demand a "one week delay" for EACH of them -- and they'll get it, because precedent has been set.

Remember -- these are streetfighters, going up against "gentlemen boxers" -- the RATs bring knives to a streetfight -- the republicans bring a copy of The Marquis of Queensbury Rules.

Of course they'll give "sufficient time" (none of this "one week" nonsense) for each one. After all, it'd only be fair, and besides, precedent has been established, so really, we've no choice in the matter, we simply had to grant this reasonable request.

That's how I see it rolling out. And they'll keep it up until he withdraws (yeah, he said he wouldn't -- but he's no fool; when he sees the handwriting on the wall, he's not going to subject his family to endless, ever-increasing abuse for NO REASON) -- or, until Trump withdraws his name (he can read the handwriting on the wall too.)

Or, if they both hang on, they'll keep it up until the election, hoping to turn the tide in the Senate. And if that happens and they don't get a majority, they'll keep delaying.

And as to the republican "majority" -- why would anyone think the RATs wouldn't stoop to using the same tactics against the Senators?

How many of them would rather go through this kind of abuse, when they can simply cave, and avoid it?

Remember hillary and the "900 FBI files"? The left is ruthless when it comes to placing their adversaries in check -- especially when then know their adversaries have never been in a real streetfight.

"dems didn’t get what they thought they were getting."

    They got what they wanted.

They got one week in which to roll out more and more "victims" to level increasingly heinous accusations -- each of which will, of course, require an FBI investigation.

    Consider:

"If you agreed it was reasonable to have an investigation for mere inappropriate touching, how can you possibly object to giving the FBI as much time as they need to investigate these serious allegations of multiple child molestation incidents?

"These poor men have been wounded for life due to this man molesting them when they were young boys. Don't they deserve at the very least an FBI investigation, just as you granted that poor Doctor he abused?"

"So, at this point this sounds like a stall attempt by Dems... but I don’t think they are stalling because they think they can stop the nomination... sounds to me more like they want to keep Kavanaugh from being seated in time for the start of term.. which means there are 1 or more cases they want to make sure Kavanaugh cannot be part of... because he can’t vote on causes heard before he is seated."

No, they're stalling so that they can roll out the room full of "victims" to bring even more bogus accusations -- each of which will require -- as per the precedent that was just set -- MORE "investigations" by the FBI.

They will keep it up until either he withdraws -- or Trump pulls him.

They will not allow ANYONE into that swing vote seat unless it's a leftist or a "moderate" that can be counted on to turn left at every crucial juncture.

If they allow him to be seated it will mark the END of the leftist agenda in this country. They will fight tooth and nail to prevent that. Don't put anything past them. Accusations of child molestation, kiddie porn, "accidental death" of a victim during "rough sex" -- or even worse.

For them, it's do or die time...

"They can lose one on a floor vote. If everyone else is a yes they can ignore flake."

So? So what! They'll just turn one or two more, just like they turned flake. What makes you think they'll hesitate to "offer" to bring out some "victims" to accuse them of all sorts of vile acts?

Serial rape is small potatoes! Just think about it. They haven't rolled out the REALLY big guns yet. Child molestation, kiddie porn, "accidental" death of a victim during "rough sex while raging drunk."

Get the picture? This is a fight to the death for the left. If he wins this SWING VOTE on the bench, it is the END of the left's DECADES of hard work to turn this country into a leftist utopia.

"Hasn’t he been investigated enough already???"

    Nope.

He'll have been "investigated enough" when he throws in the towel and says, "Screw this, I want to live what's left of my life in peace with my family. I don't need this crap. You people have done enough damage. You win. I fold. Enjoy your Pyrrhic victory."

This isn't about "investigating" him. It's about delaying even longer, so that they can roll out even more bogus accusations. They've undoubtedly got a room full of "victims" waiting in the wings -- or else they wouldn't be doing this.

"In light of the new revelations about the despicable behavior of this vile man, appointed by a President who has never held elected office and has no consideration for anything beyond his insane drive for power, we really have no alternative but to call for additional investigations -- investigations of these new allegations that have come to light during the FBI investigation.

"The seriousness of the charges are such that we simply cannot allow this disgusting man to have the swing vote occupy a seat of the highest honor in the land."

That senile idiot running the show -- apparently considering retiring (something he should have done a LONG time ago) -- could not get a single sentence out of his mouth this morning without garbling two or three SIMPLE words. And now, he called the vote, not even knowing what Flake had just demanded! He had NO clue! So he called a two hour adjournment so that they could explain it to him!

    Incredible, just f'n incredible...

    Two thoughts:

First, when they torpedo this nomination, there'll be fighting in the streets.

This country is sitting on a powder keg. People didn't vote for Trump because they liked his hair -- or his lifestyle, or anything else about his persona. They voted for him because they are FED UP with what's happening.

For the left, though, this nomination represents the one thing NO ONE dare speak in public: the swing vote that will ensure defeat for the decades of careful work they've pursued to forward their agenda. Now, with victory -- OR defeat -- just one vote away, they will fight tooth and nail to block him from being seated.

Do not put ANYTHING past them! They will fight like trapped rats (yeah, pun intended).

And the icing on the cake? I said "First," above, so now comes "Second," -- if this does provoke fighting in the streets, that will suit them just fine.

They'll be able to bring the hammer down. All limits OFF. Martial law, you name it, they'll do it -- they'll jump on it like a lizard on a fat juicy maggot. They'll finally be able to get to the finish line: full totalitarian rule.

    Welcome to the future.

God, I'm so glad I'm an old man, without that many years remaining. I could do without that whole "housebound old cripple" part, but, you take the hand you're dealt.

But I fear for my wife and my son, who'll have to endure a full house "Can't happen here!" nightmare.

    [Chuckle]

My post was #123 — It was going to be #1 when I began writing it — there were zero replies at that time — but when I was halfway through, my wife got back from work and filled me in on the latest series of crises at work and at church, some major, some trivial. I then came back to finish my post, hit the Send button, and shazam! There were 122 replies posted while I was in the other room talking with my wife!

I’m still shocked that this was the only thread covering this issue, given how earthshaking the implications of what was said at that meeting today.

I just came over to FR to see what I expected to be a huge thread addressing this. It's on non-stop on Fox News.

Two things I can't believe: First, I can't believe that yours is the only thread on this event. Second, I can't believe I voted for this guy!

He's boasting that he's the one to finally push through the democrat anti-second amendment agenda. WTF???

A few things off the top of my head: This "weapons of war" nonsense (which he's bought into, hook, line, and sinker) -- unless I'm mistaken, some time back in the 1930's -- and someone correct me if I'm wrong -- the SCOTUS ruled that it is only "weapons of war" that are protected by the Second Amendment!

As I recall, the issue was a guy who had a sawed-off shotgun, and the case boiled down to a question of whether or not a short-barreled shotgun had any military application, and the prosecution asserted that it did not, and so, they ruled that the short-barreled shotgun was NOT legal, solely because it was of no use to the military.

It later turned out that it was being used by the military. But, the case was further complicated by the fact that the defendant died during the proceedings.

The point of this is that somehow, in the intervening years, the whole "military grade weapons" ruling has been turned on its head, completely topsy-turvy! And so, today, the Orwellian "truth" is that the only firearms that can be owned by "civilians" are precisely those which are not protected by the Second Amendment.

One more time, someone correct me if I'm mistaken on any of this.

In any event, my mind is reeling... The guy who was elected in large part because of his (implicit?) "no gun control will pass on my watch" promise is now handing over the store to the likes of Dianne Feinstein! She drones on and on over the laundry list of everything she's wanted for years, and he responds that they didn't have him in office then, and now there's a new Sheriff in town and things are gonna change.

    WTF???

And I wonder how many people realize that "universal background checks" is newspeak for "no more private sales of firearms"?

    end_rant :)

Among voters who have requested but not yet turned in a ballot, 50 percent are Democrats and 37 percent are Republicans.”

How would they know? Michigan doesn't register people by party affiliation. You are either "registered to vote" or you're not.

I'm registered to vote, and no one will know how I voted until they take a peek at my ballot by pulling it out of the absurd "privacy" (unsealed) envelope after I mail in my absentee ballot. And if they don't take a peek, then no one will ever know how I voted. My ballot will be fed into the machine, which will tally it up without knowing who I am.

Clarification: Obama did not use the word "automatic" -- but, he did assert it by way of definition: He said the killer used an "assault rifle" which is an automatic rifle. ("Assault weapon" is the term of art, existing on paper, applied to rifles with cosmetics making them "look evil.")

The term being bandied about today ("assault rifle") is clearly in the talking points, Bile O'Really being the latest to cough the hairball into the airwaves a minute or two ago.

I guess Bernie has been asleep from even before the unconstitutional 1986 gun control legislation was passed or else he would know that automatic weapons were effectively banned already. What a clueless moron!

The talking points are bit more insidious than that. While everyone from Obama to Fox News has been parroting the word "automatic," no one seems to have noticed Obama's call (in not so many words) for the prohibition of "military" ammunition (which no civilian needs blah blah blah).

As everyone here knows, "military" ammunition is the least deadly, due to the Geneva Conventions, which prohibit the use of soft/hollow point bullets, AKA common hunting and civilian defensive rounds.

I forsee some brutally "comprehensive" legislation being fast-tracked at a rate to make heads spin.

With respect to the "automatic" talking point, I am reminded of an early draft of the last "assault" weapons ban ("assault weapon" of course being a term of art, there being no such thing in the real world).

In that draft, "semi-automatic" firearms were to be prohibited. In a separate place in the bill, "repeating" arms were defined as "semi-automatic"!

Stroke of the pen, and all that.

I suspect that the ban currently slogging its way through the process will be allowed to die on the vine. In its place will be introduced -- with great fanfare -- "The Mother of All Bans," putatively written in response to the latest act of war against us, but in reality, crafted over a period of months if not years, and waiting in the wings for the most opportune moment.

I can't see much (other than token) opposition from either side of The One Political Party. And Obama, clutching to this as "His Legacy," will gladly trade off some scraps to the GOPe, just to ensure the lack of opposition.

I am a crippled old man, but I weep for my children...

The wake up call will happen when one of these media outlets is attacked.

I doubt it. It's already happened. Remember the anthrax attacks after 9/11, when an entire building where a tabloid was published had to be closed and sealed because it was fully infested with spores?

I still believe that attack was in some way related to the 9/11 attacks. Didn't one of the known perps show up at a clinic with a bad case of anthrax shortly before the attack?
