back in 2006, i called McDill and spoke w/ media relations as a ‘reporter for internet news’. i was told they had found many instances of WMDs and have told anyone that asked.

They kept it a secret in 1991 too. Then it was because the US govt. had secretly given Saddam Hussein’s regime some of our binary munitions, via Jordan, in the 1980’s to test on the Iranians during the Iran-Iraq war.
The US govt. was afraid it would be blamed if SH’s regime used some of those left-overs on American forces during Desert Storm, so it hushed up the sporadic use of chemical weapons by Iraqi forces during Desert Storm, plus accidental releases during and after that war. The latter were due as much to allied bombing of Iraqi munitions dumps during the war as to mistakes by Iraqi forces plus, after the cease-fire, by American forces in destroying captured Iraqi munitions. The latter also happened after the 2003 conquest of Iraq.

It does if you consider the USA was somehow involved in Iraq obtaining those chemicals.

The Ba’ath in Iraq had a bunch of chemical agent shells which were manufactured to US standards, using US designs, but were manufactured in Europe and sold to Iraq.
Potentially embarrassing nonetheless, given the skewed nature of press coverage.
Also true that Karl Rove made the call that it was politically not worth the effort of “relitigating” the issue of WMDs in Iraq, after the left had already ingrained their version into the popular view of the issue.

As I recall, the NYT was leading the charge on the chant, “Bush lied, people died.” Now, 12 years later, they start telling us the truth. And with no apologies.
I use to think that kind of talk was tin foil hat conspiracy stuff. Now, I'm not so sure. It really does seem like the elites vs the citizens.
What turds. There were reports all over the place over service folks being exposed to WMD. The lamestream media didn’t follow up at all because they didn’t want to mess up their narrative.
Shame on Bush for allowing the lie to fester. Life lesson, never ever let a lie go unchallenged.
This is way old news that was never followed up by the media.
I remember reading about this several months ago. Bush decided to take the heat for “no WMDs in Iraq” rather than let the enemy know what was really found there.
WHY would the US teach the Iraqis how to build WMDs after the Iraqis hit the USS STARK, killing many sailors?

Because they didn’t want a worldwide terrorist rush into Iraq looking for WMD’s to use before they could find them all.
Bush cared more about results, than propaganda.
I understand why, but I also understand how much that stand has cost America.
There is much, MUCH more to the story of the choice of Iraq as a target, and to the operational plan, than we will ever know.
In one of the articles I read years ago on it, there was a comment about how dangerous the closeness to Iran was, and there was concern they would want that Yellow Cake and the War in Iraq was in full swing, so protecting the location was paramount was ‘why’ Bush decided to keep quiet.
I don’t know...it seems the Media was covering their behinds by not letting the info out once it was safe enough to sell to that Canadian Company. Bush has been so condemned, when in fact what Cheney and Bush said was in Iraq, was there and found. History is proving them right.
