Why Is Free Republic Allowing Liberal Trolls To Stay?
May 12 2009 | jveritas

Posted on 05/12/2009 12:07:37 PM PDT by jveritas

There are some really annoying liberal trolls on Free Republic who have survived for months and years without being banned. Why is Free Republic allowing them to stay? We have enough liberalism and left wing lunacy on 90% of the media and we do not need this crap on this forum.

It is not difficult to spot these trolls. A quick review of their posting history will prove without any shadow of doubt that they are liberal trolls. Some of them try to mask it but they cannot fool the vast majority of us.

There are plenty of left wing forums which will welcome them that if they are not already registered and active members there.

It is time to get rid of them.

Hit the abuse bottom on them and hit it often.

Watch it. Other FReepers have had trouble with this one through FReepmail and outside email.

Realize, however, that you can't really ban trolls. So getting away with someone who really is conservative but is being misinterpreted or maybe is poping off after having a bad day isn't going to stop trolls. Best to add a 'block' feature so you don't see those people's post.

I have thousands of proxy IP addresses at my disposal and anyone else can use a proxy, too.

I am pointing out to true Obama supporters, socialists, and left wing liberals.

Thanks, I sure as h*** don't qualify as one of those!

Congratulations. I think that you and JimRob are the only certified non-trolls on FR.

Yes, I am well aware that I am despised by trolls.

Wagglebee is a confirmed troll-despised Freeper!

Yeah, I saw that, but I have to consider the source—and that troll has no credibility.

On a private forum, which this is, free speech is whatever the owner wants it to be. Call it a pet peeve, but it annoys me when people start crying about the loss of freedom of speech anytime someone is kicked off a forum, fired radio/tv hosts, etc. The freedom of speech is only removed when the government does it, everyone else has the right to determine what they want allowed in their media.

However, I don't think it is a place for national organization. Freepers have a few bedrock principles that unite them, but this is not a GOP message board. It is also not a Constitution Party, Falcon Party of Libertarian Party message board. It's not a California or Georgia message board. The reasons that Freepers are here are far too varied for them to be directed at a common goal. I appreciate your sentiment, but I feel this crowd is wired wrong for what you want.

First, I think you need to re-read the stated description of this site on the homepage.

Second, I never said anything about national organization. I would actually like to see that happen, but I am realistic enough to know that it would be like herding cats. However, we are quite capable of connecting people to local events, as we showed with the Tea Parties. Tea Parties were organized and run locally, but had a loose national connection and base of support. For example, it was far more effective for 200 cities to have Tea Parties on the same day, coordinated in places like FreeRepublic, than it would have been for people to do this isolated in their local communities.

Third, if I thought you were in the least bit correct about "...Freepers are here are far too varied for them to be directed at a common goal" I would quit FreeRepublic forever and write off the country as a whole. Your claim is a prime recipe for failure.

1. “Please agree to meet me somewhere that we may resolve this difference.”

2. “Like a little kid or an idiot.”

3. “Never mind that I have been here many years longer than you,”

#1. ooooooohh. I am so scared. Incredible.
How about we meet in the parking lot after math class. Don’t let the teachers find out OK.

#2 Talk about little kid.

#3. Don’t worry, I wouldn’t care if you were the 2nd FReeper here. I really love the, “nyah, nyah, I’ve been here longer than you” attitude you show. Again that shown maturity. Ideas don’t matter, Seniority does. Laughable really.

Is Terribot supposed to be an insult? If taking a stand against a state sanctioned murder and having a pro-life outlook has one called names, then they can call away.

Besides, I thought most of them had either left with the self-pitying “WPPFF”, or left again with the Giuliani exodus.

Yep, they think we should have cheered her murder.

Besides, I thought most of them had either left with the self-pitying “WPPFF”, or left again with the Giuliani exodus.

There are still a few left.

I for one will say that despite his “short” stay here (8 years) he has proven a very respected FReeper. [I only have him beat by a little more than a year as far as length of membership]

Do you not remember his translating of the Iraq docs that PROVED Saddam had WMD Chemical facilities, and was subverting the efforts of the UN inspectors. Heck he even translated a document that proved SOMEONE knew of a STOCKPILE of chemical weapons underground near Fallujah that they apparently “lost” due to not knowing the EXACT location! (Wonder how much of that is seeping into whatever groundwater etc... under the sand...). And so much more information that he willingly volunteered his time to do since the Military either didn’t have the manpower, or foresight to do so. He stepped up, realized a role he could fill in this fight, and did his duty. As I recall he was still in the process of getting his citizenship at the time, and showed more intestinal fortitude, and honor for our country than many of the so-called American Citizens in our country have ever had, really... I’d say he deserves our respect.

[Do I have the information about your quest for citizenship correct JVeritas, or am I confusing you with another poster? Incidently, I have found in my personal life that those I have known who seek citizenship, or have fled here are sometimes more in tune with our system of government and can see problems WAY before some of the “natural-born Citizens” in our country.]

[Navy Vet - please know that this post is very generalized obviously, and I recognize and thank you service to our country as well. My whole family thanks you for your sacrifices, and what you have done whether in “peace-time” or war.]

I also have to say that I’ve noticed a lot of trolls around these parts lately myself, which does happen especially around election time... Agitation levels due to our errant government are high among a vast majority of FReepers as well, so we should expect more knee-jerk reactions — just part of human nature. Which may make it appear that some are ‘trolls’ that really aren’t. Again though, I’ve noticed an increase...

Now, I haven’t read the rest of this long thread, but that’s my take on it. I think JVeritas has “earned the right” to ask questions, and offer his thoughts on a Vanity post, personally.

I don’t take his vanity to mean that he wants to impose his will upon the forum. Rather he is taking an active part, trying to preserve the integrity of FR.

ALL JMHO.

Wow, I didn’t even notice that US Navy Vet has been here for a MONTH! NOT EVEN A WHOLE MONTH! WOW!

Well, that would make sense why he has NO CLUE about what you’ve done for our country, and IMHO why you have EARNED the right to start a thread such as this.

Thank you very much for all your support LibertyRocks. I have been a very proud American Citizen since June 2008. Anyway I am seeing some Obama supporters on this forum, they support socialism and left wing liberalism but apparently some of them are going to stay.

Okay, let me back away from sweeping statements for a minute and try to get back on topic. Let’s assume that the moderators had the time and resources to enforce these more restrictive definitions and got rid of all the trolls. How would you then direct Freepers into more constructive activites? Do you have some mechanism for helping organize these Freepers? What would you do to get the Freepers who are keyboard warriors leave their houses and participate in some other way?
