25 May 10 The revamped cap-and-trade (control-and-tax) bill that Senators Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.) and John Kerry (D-Mass.) are trying to foist on the American public is predicated on a flat-out lie.
The control-and-tax proponents would have you believe that our planet has been enduring unprecedented global warming (now coyly referred to as climate change), but the facts do not bear that out. Facts. Oh, those damnable facts...
...Youll see that todays benign climate is not even close to being the warmest on record.
Not even close.
Temperatures have been warmer than today for almost all of the past 10,000 years.
In fact, if the chart went further back, youd see that temperatures have been warmer than today for most of geologic history.

Good post. Let’s see what the weather’s like in about 4-5 years. Can we say, “extended minimum?” And remember that it’s not the end of the world. Variety is fun. Just be sure to arrange to keep the household water from freezing then (for us northerners). I wear goggles outside in winter already and will be mounting a little weather station before then (low as -35 F so far and gusts with spraying ice to 110 mph in winter here). Think of the weather to come as an adventure.
I wish the weather was the only thing in our immediate future that we need to worry about.
And of course everyone knows that with every geological cooling period comes a global warming period so we will be hit with a double whammy.....all because of our created industrialized world.
Agreed. I know what you mean. Maybe we can start small manufacturing shops as hobbies for now.
“In fact, if the chart went further back, youd see that temperatures have been warmer than today for most of geologic history.” Modern civilization was able to develop largely because the past 10,000 years have occurred during a warm period. For the past million years or so... most of the time much of the planet has been covered with ice. We are much more likely than not overdue for another ice-age if recent (over the past million years) trends continue.
“Most of geologic history” is of course referring to hundreds of millions of years. During that time-line the statement is correct. We humans are a flash in the pan in geologic time. The belief that we are having more than the most infinitesimal effect on the climate is extreme arrogance on our part.

The stupidity of the gullible never fails to amaze me.
A more accurate statement might be "My perception of the stupidity of the gullible never fails to amaze me."
I'll bet you're not a big Sherlock Holmes fan. :{)
And I do enjoy Sherlock Holmes stories every now and then.
Global Warming on Free Republic
Well yeah. We’re at the peak of a 125,000 year temperature cycle.
