Scalia's untimely death underscores why it is essential for everyone who wants to arrest America's slide into ruin to consolidate behind Ted Cruz before it is too late. Take it from the voice of reason, Thomas Sowell: Given the advanced ages of other justices, the next president is likely to have enough vacancies to fill to be able to shape the future of the court that helps shape the future of America.
Already many people are complaining that the America they grew up in, and loved, is being changed into something they can barely recognize. There are looming threats from without as well as within: Meanwhile, people with high level experience in the military and in the intelligence services are warning us against extreme dangers in a world where our adversaries' military power and aggressiveness are increasing, while our military forces are being cut back. Not all Republican candidates would reverse that trend. Against this background, the frivolous rhetoric and childish antics in the televised political "debates" are painful to watch.
If ever there was a time to choose a president with depth, rather than glitter or glibness, this is it. Whatever the achievements of anyone in some other field, we cannot afford a novice in the complex world of politics and government at a time of grave dangers at home and internationally. That rules out Trump, not that he would stand a chance in the general election anyway. Some seem to think that Donald Trump's lead in the polls and in the New Hampshire primary make him the most electable candidate, even if he often acts like an overgrown spoiled brat. But the fact that Trump leads in the polls does not mean that he is electable in the general election this fall. He is ahead only because the majority vote among Republicans has been split among so many other candidates. Although Hillary Clinton is said to have been beaten badly in the Democratâs primary vote in New Hampshire, she still had a higher percentage of the Democrats' vote than Trump had of the Republicans' votes.
Unfortunately, the way the Republican primaries are set up, Trump can win all the delegates from some states without having to get a majority of the votes in any state. A candidate who can't even get a majority of the Republican vote, who many conservatives would not vote for under any circumstances whatsoever, and who has an overwhelming unfavorable rate among Democrats and independents would lose in a blowout. Give the country another 9 months to have his obnoxious behavior rubbed in everyone's face, and Trump would be lucky to win even a single state.
Even if some total meltdown by the Dems put Trump into power, his ideological incoherence and seriously flawed character make it unlikely that he would be any better than Shrillary or Bernie Sanders. If the Republicans are to avoid having Donald Trump lead them - and the country - to disaster, they are going to have to have the majority of non-Trump supporters get behind some given candidate. ... Senator Cruz is the one who comes to mind when depth and steadfastness come to mind. As someone who once clerked for a Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, he will know how important choosing Justice Scalia's replacement will be. And he has the intellect to understand much more. The question is whether Republican voters have the intellect not to step off the edge of a cliff in an insane self-defeating gesture. Only Cruz can stop the impending train wreck.
Cruz Bots getting scared Ted might finish 4th
I support Cruz for President but I also support Trump the candidate because Trump is making it possible for Cruz to discuss topics that he’d otherwise have to avoid.
Uhhh... the Ted Cruz CAMPAIGN is a train wreck. I can only imagine how much of a disaster and a joke his Presidency would be, considering the scumbags he surrounds himself with.
I’d still vote for him in the general if he won the nomination, but I wouldn’t tell anybody. LOL
No blame for your black brother who had 8 years to destroy America yet Trump is going to destroy America. This guy is suppose to be smart? Hannity kisses his a## all the time
I'll vote for Trump if he gets the nomination - but probably not for any of the other would be train conductors.
The irony of this being posted at a website called “Moon Battery” will not be lost on long time Freepers.
good point

I can imagine Glenn Beck as press secretary: How dare you ask that question, don’t you know that President Cruz has been sent by God to guide us thru the Rapture? You will go to hell for that question!!
I miss the days when Walter Williams would host Rush’s show during the holidays and he would have Dr. Sowell on for an hour. What great conversations they would have about economics. It was better than any econ class I ever took in college and more informative too.
Sowell baby. You said last summer Trump can’t win. So why the fuss? Were you wrong? Are you wrong now?
Electing a nonConservative for president will be disasterous
Cruz2016
But then for many Trump supporters, anyone who does not worship at the alter of Trump is either brain-dead or an establishment hack. The reason that so many conservative thinkers and commentators oppose Trump is because Trump is not a conservative. This weird hysteria has infected this forum that was once a haven for conservatives but now has been taken over by a swarm advocating for a life-long liberal and eager to defame their former champions of conservative philosophy.
Say what you will about Trump, he has single handedly done MORE to transform America than zero
Zero has not transformed America ... get THAT through your thick skulls .... he has awakened a sleeping giant and a leader has emerged from the sleepers
Trump would probably have been just as happy with his wet dream wife and business success as to consider running for the Presidency
CERTAINLY he knew his method and personality would exacerbate a lot of people ... but for whatever reason ... he DID jump in .... and we're stuck with him
He's pulling the lever to switch the track
I miss the Williams/Sowell discussions, too. They made me feel like I was in the room with them.
As for Cruz and Trump, I will vote for either one. But after I have a gin & tonic or two, I wonder if maybe the train already left the station in 2008. So much damage has already been done to our country by the 0bama regime...
And then when I wake up the next day I shudder at the thought of crazy Commie Bernie or Hillary the Criminal in the White House.
