Just in time for Saint Patrick’s Day — two construction workers in Holland have discovered a real-life “pot o’ gold.”

The workers from water company Oasen made the stunning find when they were laying pipes in the new town of Hoef and Haag, in the province of Utrecht, LiveScience reports.

During the construction work, they dug up a medieval cooking pot that contained 12 gold and 462 silver coins. The coins have been dated to the 15th century. It's unclear at this point who will keep the coins.

After finding the pot, "it literally and figuratively rained coins," the company explained in a press release translated via Google Translate.

Don’t know what the laws are in Holland concerning buried treasure.

In the UK, it goes to the sovereign, under the assumption it was illegally hidden.............

You sell them 1 at a time on eBay. As if you had them all your life. Last thing to do is to tell a European government what you found. Actually the same goes for The US too.

Be quiet and slowly slip the gold into circulation.

Determining who the coins belong to is a no brainer. The leprechaun who owns them will soon come after them to claim his gold, and it will be violent. Didn’t they see the movie?

In the UK, it goes to the sovereign, under the assumption it was illegally hidden............. Fortunately, The U.S. Constitution does not acknowledge "sovereigns."

Unfortunately, also, the nation is never likely ever to yield crocks of contain minted gold.

If it is ruled by the coroner to be hidden, it is “treasure trove” and belongs to the sovereign. If it merely lost, it’s finders keepers. But, the sovereign plays fair. Anything the sovereign chooses to keep (usually national or local museums) gets paid for at fair market prices. All that is not kept belongs to the finders/land owners. If treasure trove were seized without compensation, no one would report it. This way the treasure can be studied for historical importance and the finders get rewarded.
