A Conservative Kid Tries To Survive In California Schools
American Thinker ^ | June 27, 2010 | Sam Besserman

Posted on 06/27/2010 12:10:48 PM PDT by MichaelAsher54

My name is Sam Besserman, I'm eleven years old, I live in Beverly Hills, California, and ever since I can remember I have been subjected to political bias in school. The first time I noticed the bias was actually in preschool where the teacher was reading a book about the importance of mothers and the inferiority of fathers. I tried to tell the teacher that dads might be just as important. The teacher responded in a sing-song, "No, listen to me, I'm the teacher." Of course, the girls loved the book and most of the boys hated it, except for a few who liked it and also wanted to become mothers some day. I was three years old and royally pissed off.

Very funny.

Its a shame that 11 year olds don’t think or talk that way.

But a nice fantasy.

Yeah, I’m not buying it. This wasn’t written by an 11 year old.

Incredibly good article packed with familiar themes. It’s like I went to all the same schools as him.

But sorry, no 11-year-olds know the word, “misandrist” —I’m a vocab freak and even I didn’t know it until 14 or so.

Not so sure. My just-graduated-K-attending-private-school gdaughter, when going for an eye exam, very solemnly said, “I’m feeling somewhat apprehensive about this!”

Here’s a video the kid made:

Although I’m sure what happened to the kid happened, I agree that this was not written by an eleven year old.

Would have to be an extremely unusual and bright eleven year-old to have written this, but the first eight or ten comments below the American Thinker article bought it totally. But I'm sure the experiences related are fairly commonplace.

I went to public school in the 40s/50s. At the age of 7, my father accompanied me to the library to sign permission for me to have an adult library card with no restrictions. I was able to read and understand every one of the ten books I was allowed per week. In fact, by age 8, the librarians would no longer accept my book reports. They told me they knew I had read the books and understood them. I had some peer problems until I decided to dumb down my verbal speech. Teachers often told me they had to look up my vocabulary when grading my papers. I was taught correct grammar and I use it.

I am not a genius. I am terrible at math and it has taken me decades to understand anything above the most basic in physics. My spelling skills are today dependent upon spell check.

I fully believe this boy wrote this article. For the life of me, I cannot see any of the so-called *comedy gold* he and others mention. He describes a tragedy that could have been written as science fiction 60 years ago. Not only are boys enthusiastically discriminated against, conservatives are, as well.

We need another Civil Rights Movement.

Sam spoke at the Westside Los Angeles Dennis Prager Group recently and knows words like misandrist because when he was even younger he wanted to know the equivalent word for misogynist but for a women who hates men.

Dennis Prager speaks of the left wing bias which infects our college campuses. But such bias extends to America’s grade schools as well. Conservative, 11-year-old, Beverly Hills resident Sam Besserman has found himself in the thick of a lonely battle. He has suffered through taunts like “Get the Republican!” in gym, statements like “Right wing Nazis are taking office all over the place” in social studies and bullying by classmates because he refuses to believe in anthropogenic global warming. Rather than play the victim, Sam has taken a stand. He has refused to sign several pledges to reduce his carbon footprint, he has shot a video for Phelim McAleer and Ann McElhinney, the directors of Not Evil, Just Wrong (the anti-Al Gore documentary), and, most recently, he successfully circulated a petition among his social studies class to have his teacher cease her politicization of the classroom. We will chat with Sam about his fight against ideological bigotry in our local schools.

Reminds me of when Charlotte Church “wrote” a letter apologizing to her fans for insulting America...only the letter looked like it was written by someone with a Ph.D in English writing.

I just asked my 11 year old if she remembers anything from pre-school. She said, “not really.”

While I do believe it is possible, I simply do not believe this boy wrote this. It’s a gut instinct. Even the tenor of it is not that of an eleven year old boy. There is more to it than just the vocabulary.

As for you not being a genius, you probably are in some areas. Let’s all just be grateful for our different gifts and talents. God is good!

P.S. When I was in 7th grade (1970) I was hauled into the Principal’s office. I was nervous as I had no idea what was going on. They told me I was already reading at the collegiate level. I have never forgotten that. Of course, it was probably par for the course. My father had been slipping me books for years... I read Jane Eyre at age 12. My own son read The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich at age 13. I think parents are the most important elements with regard to the literacy of their children. They must model it in the home.

My comment at AT's website:
I guess I'd like to know a little bit more about this "kid" before passing this article around. Usually kids don't use words that send me to mw.com ("misandrist") and/or words which aren't in mw.com's free dictionary. I think I want to see this person on TV being interviewed before I believe this is real.
ML/NJ

PS It turns out that FR's spell checker never heard of misandrist either!

Kids are different. I was just discussing public schools with my 31 year-old daughter and she remembers quite a bit about her early school days. (She can also draw a floor plan of the apartment she lived in until she was 3 years, 8 months.) My son, on the other hand, remembers very little about our family USA tour which began when he was 8 years, 2 months. (I let you guess which way they vote! But both finished high in their respective high school class rankings and went to prestigious colleges.)

I learned to read at age 5 an my mother got me a library card. I too had to dumb down my speech or my buddies would harass me and not want to hang out with me. I am also not a genius, having an IQ of 141. I could have easily used the language this kid did at age 11. Think what a kid with an IQ of 160 or so could do at 11.
