Octopus- those ought to stay-down well after a long night's drinking |
aka 'Louisiana Road-Kill' |
Can't I just get my hotdog next to the chips -like in the picture? |
Kiwi-flavored... why |
And do my fellow Yanks know what HAGGIS consists of...? (hint: makes Tijuana street-purchased chorizo look like prime rib) |
We had Charles Chips in Alabama in times past. My wife still has a Charles can.
“Never had Gibbles... PA only I assume”
Yeah, Gibble’s is around here in MD. PA really know chips. We get to have almost all their brands being so close.
What IS weird though is a certain central PA brand. Very strange - never heard of it until meeting my husband. Every person in that area (not sure just how small it is) is obsessed with HARTLEY’S POTATO CHIPS. Every store/restaurant must sell them, often to the detriment of any other brand. The original are kettle-cooked and kind of thick.
Turns out the Hartley’s who created these are relatives of my husband’s.
They’re actually not my cup of tea. I don’t mind them, but there’s something a bit bitter - musky? - about them. I like their texture but not much on flavor.
1 brand we discovered (I knew they’ve been around for years, just never really tried them much) is MARTIN’S. OMG. My husband loves their original kettle-cooked and I love the ripples. Great texture AND flavor.
Also good is the Cape Cod - guess where the guy who started that “studied”? LOL.
Haggis? Yes...once a year to celebrate the birth of Robbie Burns. But always with lots of single malt scotch to wash it down.
"Ah, Reekin!"
Golden Flake used to make a cheeseburger potato chip, it was awesome. Bit like a dill/mustard/onion with a hint of smoke and cheese flavor.
You can find Gibbles in FL too. Search the smaller grocery chains. We found Jay’s (a Midwest brand) at Big Lots. I was shocked to find a large chili-cheese Fritos in FL the other day, looks like they’re finally stocking those to this region.
From the butcher shop?
The absolute best IMO are Martin’s kettle cooked, made in Thomasville, PA.
A moose stole my Kishka!
When I travel, I like to find regional chips with unusual flavors. I moved to MD in 2010 and really love the PA chip companies. Herr’s has me blown away. Baby Back Ribs, KC Steakhouse and best of all, Cheddar and Horseradish.
Utz sells Chesepeake Bay crab chips. My wife dared me, so I did. I don’t know if they taste like crab or Chesepeake Bay, but they were pretty good.
I’d argue that with you. Up here, we have Tim’s Cascade Chips. Crisp, not to salty, slightly thick. Excellent for just about any kind of dip. Can even stand up to having cheese & bacon melted on top in an oven. Made some like that for the last Super Bowl. A whole large cookie sheet of them went bye-bye within 20 minutes.

If you can find them, try Tim’s Cascade Chips made in Washington state - very tasty and available online:

I guess you can’t complain that they aren’t made with real Crawtators.
That’s another
Lol. Can we agree that all regional chips beat Pringles?
Oh for goodness sake YES! Salted cardboard can beat Pringles! LOL
