WASHINGTON – The company that sells Little Debbie snacks announced a recall Sunday of peanut butter crackers because of a potential link to a deadly salmonella outbreak.

The voluntary recall came one day after the government advised consumers to avoid eating cookies, cakes, ice cream and other foods with peanut butter until health officials learn more about the contamination.

Oh, man, you know it’s bad when they start recalling the Little Debbie’s!!!! :-O

Wish the FDA would put out a list of EVERY p.b. source so I know what to get rid of here—we only eat Smucker’s Original p.b. and I’m praying it isn’t affected...we eat p.b. every day and it will be a bummer if we can’t! :-(

(Except when it’s outlawed at my daughter’s elem. school, but that’s a whole ‘nother nanny state thread to deal with...)

I thought a product had to qualify as edible before salmonella could be any danger.

So far they are saying the kinds sold in regular stores are not included. But they don't sound sure. Most of it seems to center on that one plant in Georgia that sold to institutions. Probably to save money, cheaper stuff and in bulk. Guess all the snack people buy the cheaper, bulk stuff. Sometimes it's the same quality, but I always bought Skippy until I found out how good the low fat Jif tastes.

I'm already using my newest large jar of Jif, so if it were contaminated, I'd have probably been sick already. So I'm not throwing it out.

Our regular supermarket even pulled their peanut butter cookies and other baked goods in addition to the crackers and things recalled. But if it's that bad, they should play it safe. Poor old people in nursing homes seemed to take the brunt of it.

Hmmm. I have a box of Little Debbie Nutty Bars. My son already ate one package a few days ago and he’s still alive. I’m going to assume they’re safe.

"Most peanut butter sold in jars at supermarkets appears to be safe, the Food and Drug Administration said Saturday."

Well that answers any questions for me. /s

Those Nutty Bars are just the thing when you are in a crunchy mood.

WE have in our home a jar of Jif Creamy with a used by date of Nov 07 2010 used in baking and celery dipping, all’s ok here.

Fox News was saying this morning that jars of peanut butter is still OK..........but any BAKED goods containing peanut butter should be tossed. I've never tasted any good store-bought peanut butter cookies, so I personally don't have any. I will go without my PB & Baloney sandwiches until this issue has passed......

This article here mentions what to look out for and Brands that are being pulled...........

Should I start leaving out the heaping tablespoon of peanut butter in my oatmeal with raisins?

I have some Trader Joe’s crunchy PB I’ve been chowing down lately. Not my fave peanutbutter but good on toast with a little vanilla sugar sprinkled on top. Now I’m hungry!

Mmmmmm. Peanut butter. It's my Kryptonite. My wife has to hide the jar from me. Then I end up on a kitchen treasure hunt at 2 AM, with a spoon in one hand, and a tall glass of cold milk in the other. LOL
