I love reading about alternate/revisionist history

Me too. But there's no escaping the fringe category. But, as you say, lots of FReepers eat this stuff up, and Quix is their King.

Speaking of UFOs and Christianity - Zoroastrians believe a war exists in the heavens against beings of light and darkness.

Beings who fly on wings and some say inspired Judeo-Christian-Muslim depictions of angels.

I don’t deny the fringe nature of this and I will not call this as anything but fringe. I blame the the old TV show “In Search of With Leonard Nimoy” for getting me hooked on the far out stuff.

I've also spent a little time, learning to understand "mundane astrology," which goes back through the Zoroastrians to ancient Chaldeans. Your practical explanation makes a great deal of sense. But, modern mundane astrologers have worked their way back to that time, astronomically, and there was a Grand Trine, involving Jupiter and the star Regulus, beginning in Leo and transiting into Virgo.

Speaking in terms of the assumed, symbolic meaning of such a thing, at that time, it meant the Lion of Judah, King of the Jews, born of a Virgin. That was freighted with prophetic meaning in both worlds, and so they would set off to find Him. And, a Grand Trine with the addition of a star involved, certainly would be very bright.

For what that's worth, that is. I do realize astrology is forbidden in the Bible. A complex matter, it is, though. I've come to believe that individual astrology, being attempted divination, is what is being condemned. The Bible is replete with astrological language, occurences and symbolism, otherwise.

This reluctance to commit has infuriated some Christian groups, particularly those who promote extreme interpretations of the UFO phenomenon. On the one hand there is a group of evangelicals – mainly Americans, such as Dr Billy Graham – who have said the UFO occupants may be angels sent by God to watch over us. The best-known exponent of this idea is the Presbyterian minister Rev Barry Downing, author of Flying Saucers and the Bible. Downing appears to be open minded about aliens as part of God’s creation and to look to the scriptures for evidence of early ET contacts.

At the opposite end of the spectrum are some members of the Christian Orthodox Church 1 who find it impossible to accept that there is any goodness in the elusive and contradictory nature of UFO behaviour. The most extreme expression of this view is that there can be no ETs because life on other planets is not mentioned in the Bible. It’s a point of view that leads its proponents to a further conclusion: if there are no aliens in the Bible and the UFO occupants aren’t angels, then UFOs can only be demonic in origin.

Chapter 17, The Lonely Self (II): Why Carl Sagan is So Anxious to Establish Communication With An ETI (Extraterrestrial Intelligence), excerpted from
Walker Percy's Lost In The Cosmos: The Last Self-Help Book:

Sagan is right in saying that despite all the claims of UFO sightings and encounters of a third kind, extraterrestrial creatures, and such, not a single artifact, e.g., a piece of metal, a bit of clothing of a visitor, a piece of tissue, a fingernail, has been recovered.
Yet Sagan has written whole volumes promoting the probability of the existence of intelligent life on the billions of planets orbiting the billions and billions of stars in our galaxy, let alone the billions of other galaxies -- this in spite of the fact that there is no evidence that life exists anywhere else in the Cosmos, let alone intelligent life. Of all the billions of electromagnetic waves from the Cosmos received here on Earth, not a single one can be attributed to an ETI.
Therefore, one might ask Sagan the same question he put to UFOers: Of all the countless bits of data received from outer space, the observations of astronomers, the millions of units recorded by radio telescopes, why has not a single bit of information been received which could not be attributed to the random noise of the Cosmos?

Question: Why is Carl Sagan so lonely? (pick one)

    (a) Sagan is lonely because, as a true devotee of science, a noble and reliable method of attaining knowledge, he feels increasingly isolated in a world in which, as Bronowski has said, there is a failure of nerve and men seem willing to undertake anything other than the rigors of science and believe anything at all: in Velikovski, von Daniken, even in Mr. and Mrs. Barney Hill, who reported being captured and taken aboard a spaceship in Vermont.
     (b) Sagan is lonely because, after great expectations, he has not discovered ETIs in the Cosmos, because chimpanzees don't talk, dolphins don't talk, humpback whales sing only to other humpback whales, and he has heard nothing but random noise from the Cosmos, and because Vikings 1 and 2 failed to discover evidence of even the most rudimentary organic life in the soil of Mars.
     (c) Sagan is lonely because, once everything in the Cosmos, including man, is reduced to the sphere of immanence, matter in interaction, there is no one left to talk to except other transcending intelligences from other worlds.

“...The UFOS do not seem to exist as tangible, manufactured objects. They do not conform to the accepted natural laws of our environment....The UFO manifestations seem to be, by and large, merely minor variations of the age-old demonological phenomenon.~
John Keel,
UFOs: Operation Trojan Horse
pg 299

"...The phenomenon behaved like a conditioning process. The logic of conditioning uses obscurity and confusion to achieve its goal while hiding its mechanism. I could see a similar structure in the UFO stories. I am beginning to perceive a coherent picture of the ‘flying saucer’ phenomenon for the first time, now that I am pursuing the idea that UFOS may be a pyschological control system, and now that I am aware of their link to human consciousness. But I am not ready to jump to the conclusion that it is the technology of some kind of ‘spacemen.’"

Anatomy of a Phenomenon

Also, the miracle of Jesus turning water into wine. I always wondered about that miracle. He did that so early in his life that people would have spread that tale far and wide.

But if you take it into the Greek cultural context - in the past for Greeks a hero was not just someone who slew a monster and saved a princess - someone was proclaimed a hero for holding symposiums where free wine was handed out at his expense.

In a time when people did not do charity for nothing - why would they since the would not be rewarded in heaven for it - it was a big deal.

So Jesus buying wine from his own pocket for the guests of someone's wedding was seen as an amazing thing. Jesus was a hero and in time this heroic act (buying wine for people as charity) was transformed into a work of miracle.

You are ight in equating “royal blood” with that “something that makes men rally around a person”. The power you are referring to is called charisma, and it is the only real “superpower”. It is the power to command the hearts of men, and it can be used for good or evil. All the great heroes and villains of the Bible had it: Abraham, David, Joseph of Egypt, Moses, Joshua; The Serpent, Rameses II, King Saul, Nimrod, Goliath. The greatest men of historic times possessed this power: Leonidas, Socrates, Alexander of Macedon, the Buddha, Confucius, Julius Caesar, Saladin, Richard, Hermann, Mohammed, Chaka Zulu, Charlemagne, Roland, Pelayo, the Cid, Tokugawa Ieyasu, Charles III, Karl V, George Washington, Robert E. Lee, Sam Houston, Francisco Franco and George S. Patton. And, sadly, so did history’s greatest villains, including Napoleon, Mussolini, Hitler, Stalin, and Mao.

Today, we have a president who has the power of charisma. Most Americans who support President Obama don’t do so out of any great love for (or even knowledge of) his policies; they are loyal to the man himself. Will our president use his power for good or evil? That remains to be seen.

One more fact about charisma: it tends to run in families. These families are the natural aristocracy of the world. Since the false dawn of the so-called enlightenment, most of them have been deposed from power by “democrats” and “republicans” in the name of Liberty — but rest assured, God still has His anointed among men. And someday, when the worship of Liberty has reduced mankind to slavery, and the masses turn to a Great Leader to save them, the true Kings and Princes of this world will arise to save civilization once more.

Having royal blood is not like having charisma. If you were of royal blood in those times it meant people followed you because of that fact alone - charisma or no charisma.

Where do people get the idea that Satan and his demons rule over a Kingdom of Hell like God and his angels rule over a Kingdom of Heaven?

Perhaps not a Kingdom of Hell.

Matthew 4:8-10.

If Satan didn't have them to give it would not have been a true temptation.

You can find a lot of old Nimoy’s “In Search Of” videos on You Tube. That man has an awesome voice for narrating. I wonder if they’re ever gonna compile it to DVD. :)

You must subscribe to Replacement Theology, otherwise you'd see that this leaves you wide open to the prophesied, end times deception.
