What do you need math for when you have a calculator?

Should government be involved in education?

No.

Lack of math skills should not subtract from her beauty.

How would she know if it did?

The subtext here really bothers me.

Can people survive without math? Can you manage a household budget, bake a cake, or build anything with no math skills? No. Math is essential. Without math, everything in your life would change.

Is evolution in the same ballpark? Would our civilization come crashing down if no one knew about Evolution? No.

They pretend that math and evolution have some sort of intellectual equivalence. If one is essential, then surely the other must be as well.

Simply not so. If you are a research biologist, evolution has importance in your daily life. For the rest of us? It just doesn't matter.

Parody aside, it’s evidently not a requirement for getting a Nobel Prize in Economics (heads up, Krug-cretin).

Teach the math controversy! Math is only a ‘theory’.

“If you are a research biologist, evolution has importance in your daily life.”

This simple statement sums up how I view the whole “evolution/ID” debate when it comes to public schools. A “Research Biologist” implies that the person has studied a considerable amount of biology. They are capable of applying evolution theory.

Before one can begin to understand the whole science of evolution, one needs a strong understanding of the fundamentals of biology. I’m fairly positive that those members of the ruling class that are convinced that evolution is the be all end all of our existence can’t even tell you 5 parts of a cell.

Our schools waste time trying to teach evolution theory without teaching kids the underlying science. Our worldwide rankings are scientific evidence of this!!!!

However, I get the sense that the left loves to use evolution as some kind of scientific proof that God doesn’t exist. At a minimum, it is used as an argument against many, but not all, religious beliefs ... it only helps diminish the religions that give them problems in their path to conquest. For that, I loathe them.

They’re basically teaching people that one form of magic ... i.e. highly improbable, borderline impossible conditions existed where life sprung out of ooze and mutated over billions of years is far better and more rational than what they call magic : some kind of creator being behind life.

For the scientific wing here on Free Republic, I am aware that evolution is more than what I just said. However, that is how it is taught in schools these days. That’s how my stepson learned about it in 9th grade “honors” biology anyway.

I’d actually have a bit of faith in the left if they were teaching solid science skills in schools to kids, but then they’d have well educated kids ... that means that they cannot use media to promote garbage science like global warming and “magic evolution”.

Teaching science well breeds a lot of skepticism. That’s healthy. The left isn’t interested in that at all. All they want is consensus in their political agenda. Its sick, sad, and will be laughed at hysterically a couple hundred years from now :-).
