Maybe they became disoriented and beached themselves. Maybe they were trapped in a lagoon by a landslide or a storm. Maybe they died there over a period of a few millennia. But somehow, they ended up right next to one another, many just meters (yards) apart, entombed as the shallow sea floor was driven upward by geological forces and transformed into the driest place on the planet.
Today, they have emerged again atop a desert hill more than a kilometer (half a mile) from the surf, where researchers have begun to unearth one of the world's best-preserved graveyards of prehistoric whales.

Good example of the rare and ancient “feathered whale”. They probably flew inland and crash landed.
Thanks for the post what they put into it is not your fault.but lets look at this thing
Typical AP rewrite treatment The location of this find is so remote so (who cares ?) When its mentioned its the 5th paragraph down (Atacama desert) as well as the country,( Chile) . We still don’t know from which ocean these creatures came from but that some species of the whales were named Baleen, but the extinct ones well that’s too scientific. Which were found huddled together I’m surprized the narrative didn’t resort to :he, cuddled with each other in fear of impending doom device.
“Multiple beaching of whales happens fairly frequently today.”
But they don’t turn into fossils - they decay.
The world is chock full of evidence pointing to world wide deluge as written in the biblical texts. Like current liberals of all stripes, however, science is loathe even to consider the obvious.
I assumed tectonic lift of the local plate was the reason sea levels around panama viejo had dropped enough to let foliage begin to grow in the old sea bed. I would assume within 10 years it could be out beyond the toll road bridge.
I share your faith, but not your timeline. Study some geology, please.
Hey WoofDog123.
I hadnt thought about that. Let me take a good look next time Im in that area. I miss so much when I drive because I am looking out for foolish drivers. I love it when in rare occasions I am a passenger. I see so many things, which I have missed.
In my geology class, we had a field trip every Thursday afternoon. We covered everything pertaining to Panama what was known then. Where I saw those fossil shell fish were on the side of the old French canal dig (Atlantic Side). We were walking parallel the canal which was actually a cliff cut into a hill. We walked along on these humongous, very strong reeds of grass. At one point I looked down between my feet past the grass and there was nothing but air between us and the bottom.
I am still having a good laugh about it today. And no, I was not afraid. It just took me by surprise.
“Many of the earth's deserts began forming at that time?” Well, wow! Hate to rain on your parade, but deserts are always beginning to forming somewhere on the planet, as well as marsh lands, glaciers, mountain ranges, etc. That's why it's called climate change: because the climate is constantly changing. Forest today, desert tomorrow. Coastline/shoreline today, Mountain peaks tomorrow.
Quick question: What is the world's largest desert? (Answer at the bottom of this post.)
FYI...Niagara Falls has been receding for millions of years;
FYI...Topsoil is always being deposited somewhere in the world;
FYI...THERE ARE NO DINOSAUR FOSSILS THAT DATE EARLIER THAN 65 MILLION YEARS AGO. (I know this because I have a Geology Degree);
FYI...Sediments are always being deposited on the ocean floor. It's a continuous process and dates back to the formation of the oceans;
FYI...The world's oldest tree is 9,550 years old (Norway);
I could go on, but I think you get my point.
I'm glad you have faith in God, as do most of us do, but please stop proselytizing. Opinions are not scientific fact.
Answer: Antarctica (A “desert” is defined by low annual average rainfall, not temperature or the amount of sand.)
It is worth looking at when you go by there. It has been growing further and further out for a couple of years now. Once the 2nd wave started a bit further out than the first, I realized it had to be the plate panama is one was rising, since sea levels aren’t changing enough to do that.
You can pretty much not see anything but the gutted and renovated modern church tower now from corredor. same stuff on the other side of the bridge in costa del este to the ~!south.

Thanks GeronL and Renfield. A two-list-pingworthy topic. |

This would make for an interesting Free Willy sequel.
