I just got back from Academy. I am interested in purchasing the Tauras MILLENNIUM PRO™ 140 .40 S&W PISTOL IN BLUE STEEL. It is $329.00.

Does anyone have one? Are there better .40's in this price range? It looks like the Academy by me is selling out fast. The lines were long this morning.

Thoughts?

Save your money. Buy a Glock or a Sig Sauer

Taurus makes a good weapon. Probably wouldnd’t be a bad investment. That said, asking for gun advice on FR is a two-edged sword. Be prepared for lots of advice to buy a hip-mounted cruise missile.

Good gun for the money.

My older parents just bought one.

It was recommend by a friend of mine that I used to work with that is also a licensed gun dealer. Has never jammed on me.

I had a millenium pro in .45ACP. It was ammo picky, cheap stuff caused problems for me. It was reliable with PMC and up quality-wise.

If you intend to carry, make sure the type holster you want is available for it.

I know that Glock has a first responders sales discount for those that are paramedics, EMTs, & law-enforcement. I am not sure if that includes military or not.

I’m VERY glad I decided on 9mm because it is plenty of boom for personal protection, and the ammo is quite a bit cheaper than any other caliber. I get 50 rounds for about $13...higher for hollow points of course.

Not a fan of the .40 here so maybe others that are .40 fans can point you in the right direction. However, I suggest you check out Beretta’s PX4 Storm Compact. Extreme quality. Able to be de-cocked. 15+1 in 9mm. very concealable. superb ergonomics. You can get this in a .40 too, just an fyi

If you specifically want a 40 S&W you can buy one (Glock)used from any local gun store...police trade ins - lots and lots of them from $300 up.

Personally, I drew the line on the types of ammo I have and decided I didn’t want to have to stock 40 S&W too....

This is an aside. I once had a Taurus PT111 Millenium that dropped the damned magazine each time it was fired - brand new gun!. I never bought anything Taurus again.

While I agree the Glocks and Sigs are nice, for what you have to spend the Taurus Millennium is just fine, thank you.

More important than anything is practice, practice, practice. Become familiar with what you have.

I own a Taurus Millennium Pro PT-145 (.45ACP). Great value for the money.

It is easily concealable, especially for a .45. Features include a 10-round double-stack magazine, Heine rear sight (can be fitted with Trijicon night sights, if desired), and thumb and grip safeties.

For personal defense, I far prefer the .45ACP to the .40 - much more stopping power, especially using JHP rounds. Also, the gun is well-balanced and has no more noticeable felt recoil than a standard-size 1911 model, even given its 3" barrel length and polymer frame.

It should start with a number “4”, or end with the word “magnum”, IIRC the results of other such advice requests.

These are compact and lightweight. Very long and smooth DAO trigger. My boy has one that has been back to the factory twice over trigger problems. You should really start with a revolver...... maybe like this.

You can’t go wrong with a Glock.

Beware the man who only owns one gun, for he will know how to use it.

Glock 17 or 19 and any and all extra mags you can buy. Whatever you decide it needs to be done post haste as you may have already waited too late. Most of my local stores look like picked over Soviet era grocery stores.
