No school is an island; each school, each sector of education, is connected to the others. Influences flow between them. It’s reasonable to think a nation’s educational institutions will rise and fall together.
College professors may hope they can retreat to an ivory tower, untouched by the mediocrity in our public schools. Some professors may believe they are an intellectual aristocracy, and as such cannot be contaminated by the rabble below.
However, the contamination relentlessly spreads and has for almost 100 years, ever since John Dewey and his progressive educators began to control public education. They wanted to shape the type of society that the US becomes. Naturally they want to control higher education too.
To understand the depth and longevity of the contamination, we merely have to look at one of the seminal books of the 20th century, “Educational Wastelands -- the Retreat from Learning in our Public Schools” written by Professor Arthur Bestor in 1953. Imagine that; 60 years ago a distinguished professor of history took on the saboteurs of education at every level.
During the mid-1950's, Professor Bestor tried to mobilize all the academics in the country to join him in supporting traditional standards. He complained that left-wing professors were undermining higher education and trying to corrupt the training of future teachers.
Simultaneously with his campaign at the university level, Bestor unleashed his lightning bolt of a book at the phony K-12 educators he called “educationists.”
In short, Arthur Bestor was a tough-minded visionary and should be the patron saint of all who see the interconnections between every level of education. Bestor promoted his views aggressively, and at risk to his career...

My friend is a college English professor.
She says that she has students who are top of their high school class, who can not wrote a coherent paragraph.
(She has said they all know how not to get pregnant and all about man made global warming. She has said each year the quality of students lowers, not blaming them but liberals)

I also can’t wrote a coherent paragraph even if I knew how to spell it correctly.
25-30 years ago the reverse was true (K-12 taught the basics; professors taught PC).
There will be a lot of unemployed college perfessers soon, and they are going to need gainful employment.
A college professor, Noam Chomsky, almost singularly destroyed the education of black Americans for generations.
His creation of “whole language English” took black children from almost on an educational par with white children in the 1950s, to functionally illiterate, in a single decade.
Even today, despite volumes of data proving beyond doubt what an unmitigated disaster it was, Chomsky’s followers still try to promulgate that monstrosity on black children.
And in recent years, their fellow academicians are now trying to introduce the equivalent of whole language English into mathematics instruction. It was almost instantly a failure. Does not matter one bit, they are still advocating it.
Finally, bound and determine to ruin America’s educational system completely, these same scoundrels are behind “Common Core” education.
The bottom line is that professors should be excluded from school grounds as equally harmful, perhaps more harmful, than pedophiles.
Teaching Children requires a different... Gift
Professors are usually teaching heavily motivated young adults
with above average intellectual gifts.
Children are much more limited and incomplete.
I suspect the average College Professor
would not last a day in a first grade class
(unless they specifically taught future elementary school teachers)
I believe the greatness of a teacher is measured
not by how high they can take the student,
but by how far down they can reach and pull the student up.

The only reason I can think of to involve college “professors” with K-12 education is to provide them with younger prey for their pedophile proclivities.
I love stories like this. We’ll hear statistics, studies and research promising us that things are getting better. But one kid with excellent grades who can’t write, or doesn’t know what 7×9 is, gives away the whole game.
Tell your friend I’d like to have a whole bunch of these stories. Or maybe she could write an article and I’ll publish it anonymously for her, on edarticle.com, etc.

It depends on the college professor. Would you rather hand your kids over to Cornell West or Walter Williams?
Funny you should say that, she is actually publishing her findings over the years.
Of course she has kids that are fantastic.
She stopped bye the other day to say (first week of school) that five of her students wanted excused absences to go to a concert, of course she said no.
She is passionate about teaching kids who want to learn but sick of kids who are coasting.
I think as long as we are graduating kids who can’t read, we are domed.
