Discovery of 2 Monoliths,One On Mars,in 2009,& The One on Phobos,in 2007,As Revealed By Buzz Aldrin

This post is a conglomeration of several articles, sources of information, on research that I've gathered, circumstances of which can be interpreted, lead to the conclusion of the seeming existence of two monoliths, uncovered in situations unrelated to each other.

One of the so-called monolith-shaped objects was discovered by the Mars Global Surveyor in 2009 on the planet Mars, whereas the other so-called monolith-shaped object found located on the Martian moon of Phobos in 2007.

I perused through many numerous articles to find the most straight-forward, scholarly, scientifically non-committal, links, sources of information, assiduously avoiding any histrionic, hysteria-driven conspiracy-type sources to as staples of the typical sort of website you'd expect to find just such subject matter.

Before the tsunami of expected comments begin to flood this post and engulf me with the many variations on the theme of

"THIS POST IS USELESS WITHOUT PICTURES"

please let me assure you that there are enough pictures in which a determination can be made regarding the authenticity of the monolith-shaped objects, one way or another.

Please bear in mind that no one is suggesting these discoveries are in any way related to an alien civilization fostering intelligent life throughout the universe or that they have some meaning for mankind that is larger than life, that if you stare long enough at the monoliths you will imagine hearing the strains of Thus Spake Zarathustra, or that groups of opposing simian tribes will be erupting in any mob crowds any time soon.

Canada Studies Mission to Mysterious Mars Moon

Optech Incorporated, the global market leader in the development, manufacture and support of advanced, laser-based survey systems, announced today that is has been selected by the Canadian Space Agency to lead the study of a Canadian-led mission to Phobos, the largest moon of Mars. The proposed Phobos Reconnaissance and International Mars Exploration ("PRIME") mission was selected from among 12 proposals received by the Canadian Space Agency last year to be the object of a concept and feasibility study.

The focus of the study will be to outline a Canadian-led mission that could rendezvous, study and land on Phobos, one of the solar system's most mysterious objects. Scientists believe Phobos may hold clues to the origin and evolution of Mars and the solar system. Several missions by Russia and other countries have come close to Phobos, but study leader Dr. Robert (Bob) Richards, Director of Optech's Space Division, thinks that Canada and its international partners have the right stuff to get to the surface and unlock some its mysteries. "This mission would be a wonderful evolution of Canada's leadership role in planetary science and exploration to support the advancement of human knowledge of Mars and our solar system," said Dr. Richards.

Daily Mail:Buzz Aldrin stokes the Mystery of the Monolith on Mars

By Daily Mail Reporter UPDATED: 04:48 EST, 6 August 2009

An image of what appears to be a mysterious rocky monument on Mars has excited space junkies around the world.

The 'monolith', was snapped from 165miles away using a special high resolution camera on board the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.

After being published on the website Lunar Explorer Italia, it set tongues wagging with space buffs questioning whether there was once life on the Red Plan

But scientists at the University of Arizona, who captured the original image, reckon it's just an unremarkable boulder, which could measure up to five metres across.

Yisrael Spinoza, a spokesman for the HiRISE department of the university's Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, gave Mail Online the original image so readers can make up their own minds.

He said: 'It would be unwise to refer to it as a "monolith" or "structure" because that implies something artificial, like it was put there by someone for example.

'In reality it's more likely that this boulder has been created by breaking away from the bedrock to create a rectangular-shaped feature.'

The image seems to resemble the black monolith that appears during key moments of man's evolution in the Stanley Kubrick film 2001: A Space Odyssey.

The original image, taken last July, was published again this week on the University of Arizona's HiRISE website on the 'spotlight' page which seems to have led to the renewed interest.

'Is it possible that there used to be an ancient civilization on Mars?' former Montreal radio presenter David Tyler asked on his blog.

'Is it possible that NASA already knows the answer? Could this be the final straw for disclosure

Last but not least to demonstrate that NASA is not ignoring the phenomena, I've provided below a NASA link that purports to answer questions regarding the discovery of the monoliths in this question and answer forum.

I had actally thought it might have been a topic of discussion here at FR but have only been a Freeper since 2009.

Thanks, SunkenCiv!

I can neither confirm nor deny the existance of any recipe for a theoretical xenomorph.

she struck up a conversation with Aldrin and asked him about Apollo 11. He volunteered that he and Armstrong took film and made cursory inspections of alien artifacts near Tranquility Base.

The bottom 3 images make the, whatever it is, look even more artificial - it’s oddly symmetrical

Fascinating!

The observations which led Shklovsly to theorize that it was jollow proved to be inaccurate; the altitude loss was less than initially calculated, and the new loss rate is entirely consistent with a solid body.

But Phobos isn’t solid! 1/3 its volume is empty space! It’s actually a porous conglomerate.

The claim I've read in a number of places is that Russian probes have scanned the thing with penetrating radar and determined that it has rectangular interior spaces.

If we let anybody beat us to this one, we will be a scientific and technological backwater for the next five hundred years.

Buzz has been trying to develop a sci-fi series about (fictional) alien artifacts at the South Pole, which is what he was apparently talking about, assuming that the conversation wasn’t a fabrication:

I hate to do it, but here’s csicop’s breakdown of the whole “Aldrin saw ET” hoax:

Here’s a shorter to the point version, same author, NASA website:

My pleasure, and it’s not always easy to find the old topics; the FR search engine, uh, doesn’t work too well imho; Google does alright but often my memory isn’t too great and it takes a few tries to find exactly what I remember — assuming it’s still there. :’)
