One man's hero is another man's tyrant, a popular aphorism goes.
But while we can argue the validity and virtue of certain political agendas, the callous methods by which some leaders attain their goals are less up to interpretation.
After all, no matter how a historian tries to spin it, ordering a tower to be constructed out of live men stacked and cemented together with bricks and mortar is pretty brutal.
Business Insider put together a list of the most ruthless leaders of all time featuring men and women who employed merciless tactics to achieve their political and military agendas.
[Here the list of the names; detail at the link]

Thanks for posting.
There is no doubt in my mind that without our Second Amendment, Obama would certainly have already been put on that list.
Totalitarians, by definition, are leftists embracing a Central Planning governing model.
Citizens who can defend themselves would be an obstacle.
Neither Pinochet nor Franco belong on that list. Julius Caesar should probably be on it.
I met Ida Amin in the early 80’s....He was a charming guy...spent about 2 hours with him one-on-one.....
Of course, I knew he was a ruthless killer and a horrible human being but in a non-threatening environment, he was a very charismatic person.....
Agree with the general theme; however, I do believe Augusto Pinochet got a bad rap because communists had to divert attention from the economic miracle he created by following the advice he got from Milton Friedman.
Pinochet and Franco were heroes who saved their countries.
Pinochet! WTF???
He was mild compared to all the rest.
The Left hated him because he stopped a communist takeover dead in its tracks.
Note we don’t see any Castro, Guevara or any of the NORK Kims... No Saddam, Ayatollah or Qaddafi.
M4L ruthless
There is no doubt in my mind that without our Second Amendment, Obama would certainly have already been put on that list.

I agree
Torquemada, Torquemada, Torquemada, you can’t talk him outa anything!
Had a conversation with a Spaniard two weeks ago who assured me Torquemada was a Jew...go figya!
My wife and I also spent time with Deng Xiaoping and his wife...he was the butcher of Tiananmen Square......This happened after I met him.....
Very polite and warm......
I agree, Pinochet and Franco shouldn’t be on it.
I personally think that Augusto Pinochet especially was a really good President.
Franco also had enough sense to not to get involved in the war in Europe even though Hitler and Mussolini both tried to get him to come into the war on the Axis side.
He also refused to allow the Germans to bring in artillery to bombard Gibraltar.
He is well hated by the American Socialists. They often have to look to make sure he is still dead.
So did Vlad III in Romania. He’s a hero there. Kept the hordes (Muslims) at bay by impaling them and hanging them at the borders and walls.
