For example, vegetarians used to be referred to as Pythagoreans after the ancient Greek mathematician, Pythagoras, who remains well known for his Pythagorean theorem, among other things. But before he was the bane of every high school kid's existence, Pythagoras was considered the "father of vegetarianism," according to the online exhibit "America's Hidden Meals: The History of Vegetarianism in the US."
Citing ethical concerns, Pythagoras and his followers didn't eat animals, according to the virtual exhibit. As a result, before his kind was referred to as vegetarians, they were called Pythagoreans.
After Pythagoras died in 495 BC, the movement he ascribed to lived on. Notable vegetarian activists pushed the movement forward in 17th- and 18th-century England with theories about animal suffering, and the movement followed them to the colonies in the Americas, according to the virtual exhibit.

Pythagoreanism was much more than just not eating meat.
a squared + b squared = c squared
I, too, hate commas in headlines.
Old Greek saying:
Vegetarians = bad hunters
I guess I’ll point out the absurdity of Business Insider promoting the virtues of vegetarianism.
Well there you have it. Killed by plants.
Well, Pythagorus is dead do what does that tell you?
In the Bible, Adam and Even are told by God what’s available for them to eat - it was a vegetarian/fruit diet.
But the people were crap and had to be wiped out with the flood.
When Noah left the ark, he too was told what was available.
But this time, meat was on the menu.
It's ironic, because the Pythagorean Theorem is about triangles, and triangles are used to summon the farmhands to a fine meal with meat in it. Thanks nickcarraway.

That is funny, but Business Insider is a leftist shill house.
Pythagoras was alright. It was Newton who left me in his dust.
Man developed the biggest brain because he of all the apes was the only one who specialized in hunting, killing and eating other animals. Other primates' brain development was and remains limited because of the architectural compromises placed on a skull that must anchor jaw muscles powerful enough to regularly grind grains and crack nuts. Vegetarianism is counter-evolutionary.
I thought it was Cherokee?????
