A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest!   We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

"Wear Red" Friday
You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.

Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.
I received this in my email June 10th, the author is unknown.
I am wearing red today and every Friday ~ Billie

Morning, Billie. I have my red on today for "Wear Red" Friday. And what a great Friday it is. I'm on vacation next week and will be in San Antonio. This is my first vacation since Christmas. I'll have my laptop and will check in a few times next week. Have a great Friday, everyone.

Okay Missy.. on Friday you will no longer be Billie Blue but Billie Red.. or will it be Billie Blue in Red???

LOL

Thank you for the weekend thread. Love the pledge & the "red" greeting. Remember a few decades ago when we would have been insulted to be "red"... a lot of changes in words, meanings etc.

Funny. I do have on ALL red today without thinking. Still in my morning clean/take out gungies.. red sweats, red tank top & red cotton man's shirt atop. Didn't plan it etiher.. well, I have/wear a lot of red.

Getting ready a movie review & realized I MUST have it in a table! har .. see your influence is haunting

Good morning Ms Billie. Hope you have a glorious weekend. Today is Miss Emma's birthday and we're having a BIG party at her other grandparent's big yard. There won't be enough storage space in all of Ohio/WV to hold all the toys she will get. We are all spoiling her rotten. But she is such a good little girl. So sweet.

Movie Reviews
for your weekend consideration:

Batman Begins

Well the cast is interesting. Michael Caine (the proper butler); Liam Neeson, no longer Schiendler, is a martial arts good/bad guy; Katie Holmes (recent convert to Scientology & Tom Cruise’s current Squeeze) plus the Batman star, Christian Bale, who is very easy on the eyes. Many of the character actors are my old favorites.. Tom Wilksonson, Gary Oldman, Rutger Hauer, Ken Watanabe.

A few twists along the way in a flick that shows childhood friends become adult friends with a chance for romance. A young boy traumatized by an terrifying encounter with bats & witnessing his parent’s murder grows up with both of those issues to face/resolve. Car chases, some violence, corruption in govt, Gotham (is it Manhattan?), good cops/bad cops.

I loved it but I also enjoyed all the other Batmans. This isn’t a true series so if you haven’t seen the others, (as my date had NOT) you can still enjoy it. By having seen the others you have a few little comparative possibilities. I was never a fan of the comic books so those who were, will have reasons to like/not like the storyline for different reasons.

Dear Frankie

Set in the British Isles a charming story about a 9 year old deaf young boy who has been shielded with lies his entire life as him mom & grandma continually relocate. The reasons for the moves, the boy’s journey, the mom & grandma’s issues all evolve in the movie. If you like a feasible story line, no violence, no skin & a relatively happy ending, you will enjoy this . I did .

The cast to me was basically unknowns except for Gerard Butler playing a significant roll.. and in the course of the movie I found my eyes water & and numerous laughs & chuckles come forth. I think those with sensitive and mature children will find their children will relate well to the interaction of the young (and very talented) young actor.

Crash

Okay, here is a “rough” one. Much skin, incredible blood & violence, a very complex story line to follow and a star studded cast doing it all very well. I have only seen this once but want to see it again to put together NUMEROUS loose ends. It is well done & gives one pause. If you are a romantic movie lover only .. DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE. But if you want to see a very involved movie including the darker side of the reality of life, you will no doubt be rewarded here. Stars are Don Cheadle, Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Esposito, Brendan Fraser, Matt Dillon, Thadie Newton - all of whom I respect their work over the years.

Good morning, Finest! Thanks for dropping in today and throughout the weekend.

Texagirl, hope you have a fantastic week off next week! Do check in if you get some free time. Remember, red NEXT Friday, too! :)

Dolly, love the movie revue - you're always so clever and informative with your posts!

Uh-oh, Nan, I can just see all the goodies that baby is going to get for her first birthday! Outrageous! LOL! Maybe you could all start a new playground park and name it after Emma! :) Happy Birthday, sweet little redheaded Emma!

Just gotta remember, Dave - dey ARE dose dam dim-witted dems! We could add a couple of other "D"s in describing them....despicable and disgusting. :(

Must go! Have a great "Red Friday"!

Hi Billie. Long time no talk to. I trust everything is fine in your neck of the woods.

When you get a chance, could you post one of your drawings of the Gipper?

Hi ya'll! Am *sorta* responding to a couple of posts from other threads in one.

I wore red today :-) Went out and bought myself a red summer top. I wear my bracelet to support the Army National Guard every day. Have a lovely weekend.

Happy Father's Day to all the wonderful freeper Dad's and to all the Dad's who are in our lives. Blessings to our Dad's who are in heaven.

It's a beautiful day here in earthquake country ... but the only shaking this morning is of the leaves on the trees as they sway in the cool wind and sunshine.

I wish all the Finest a very fine red-Friday and a lovely weekend.

May God bless our President and the troops he commands.

May God chastise the delusional Senator Durbin and all his allies as they offer aid and moral support to the enemies of freedom and our good cause.
