GOP Lawmaker: Saddam Linked to 9/11 ['Evidence is Clear']
CNN ^ | Wednesday, June 29, 2005

Posted on 06/29/2005 1:29:28 PM PDT by West Coast Conservative

A Republican congressman from North Carolina told CNN on Wednesday that the "evidence is clear" that Iraq was involved in the terrorist attacks against the United States on September 11, 2001.

"Saddam Hussein and people like him were very much involved in 9/11," Rep. Robin Hayes said.

Told no investigation had ever found evidence to link Saddam and 9/11, Hayes responded, "I'm sorry, but you must have looked in the wrong places."

Hayes, the vice chairman of the House subcommittee on terrorism, said legislators have access to evidence others do not.

-SNIP-

President Bush said in September 2003 that "We've had no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved with the September 11 [attacks]."

Nevertheless, Hayes insisted that the connection between al Qaeda and Saddam and "folks who work for him" has been seen "time and time again."

"Nobody disputes 9/11," Hayes said. "They would do it again if not prevented."

You'd have to be deaf dumb and blind (aka a liberal) to not see the collusion between AlQuaeda and Iraq.

Perhaps the GOP has decided it's time to saw off the tree limb the Dems have been huddled on.

He is absolutely right..I have been collecting links all morning on this as I knew the Dems would lie:

Less than two months before 9/11/01, the state-controlled Iraqi newspaper “Al-Nasiriya” carried a column headlined, “American, an Obsession called Osama Bin Ladin.” (July 21, 2001)

In the piece, Baath Party writer Naeem Abd Muhalhal predicted that bin Laden would attack the US “with the seriousness of the Bedouin of the desert about the way he will try to bomb the Pentagon after he destroys the White House.”

The same state-approved column also insisted that bin Laden “will strike America on the arm that is already hurting,” and that the US “will curse the memory of Frank Sinatra every time he hears his songs” – an apparent reference to the Sinatra classic, “New York, New York”. (Link below)

Sen Bob Graham, CHAIRMAN of the Senate Intell committee, says there is "some evidence" that Saddam was involved, evidence that is "credible enough that you can't take Iraq off the list".

What was that evidence?

The constant implication that Bush just woke up one morning and decided on Iraq is a lie, and I am tired of this defamation campaign against him and our troops.

So in McMaverick's opinion it isn't compelling, but he HAS seen evidence of this?

of course they asked McLame and he said, "No body has shown me that evidence." (paraphase) - Does this guy leave the room? John McCain is quoted in the CNN report that he has seen no evidence and his stature will carry the day. If all of your facts are right we have positive proof that McCain is risking National security for personal gain. Which is it? This should have a very major impact on both the war and his presidential aspirations.

The time article did not say, but those were his quotes on page 43 of that issue.

Of course when he was running for President and claiming that the current US President lied to go to war, NO media asked him.

After all, there job under Clinton was to back up his every move, under Bush their job is to slander and defame him.

Wouldn't be the first time...he lobbied Clinton for resumption of relations with Vietnam so Anheuser-Busch could build breweries there. FYI...Cindy, McCain's wife is the daughter of James Hensley, who is the second largest Anheuser-Busch distributor in the United States. And let's not forget the Keating 5 debacle.

Okay, I'm convinced. But you won't convince the airheads who blithely assert that there was no connection between Osama and Saddam - and are never challenged. Some of these are the same airheads who asserted before the Iraq war that Saddam and Osama really hated each other - without offering any evidence.

You want a direct causal link, like say a video of Saddam shaking the hands of the hijackers as the left Iraq.

For the zillionth time, it was never claimed by Bush that we deposed him for that reason. It is a Dumocrat urban legend.

FACT: Taking him out is putting a serious crimp in middle eastern sponsored terrisom. Money talks, bullcrap walks.

An excellent collection of links in National Review from Andrew C. McCarthy, a former federal prosecutor, is a senior fellow at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies f

What does the “nothing whatsoever” crowd have to say about:

Ahmed Hikmat Shakir — the Iraqi Intelligence operative who facilitated a 9/11 hijacker into Malaysia and was in attendance at the Kuala Lampur meeting with two of the hijackers, and other conspirators, at what is roundly acknowledged to be the initial 9/11 planning session in January 2000? Who was arrested after the 9/11 attacks in possession of contact information for several known terrorists? Who managed to make his way out of Jordanian custody over our objections after the 9/11 attacks because of special pleading by Saddam’s regime?

Saddam's intelligence agency's efforts to recruit jihadists to bomb Radio Free Europe in Prague in the late 1990's?

Mohammed Atta's unexplained visits to Prague in 2000, and his alleged visit there in April 2001 which — notwithstanding the 9/11 Commission's dismissal of it (based on interviewing exactly zero relevant witnesses) — the Czechs have not retracted?

The Clinton Justice Department's allegation in a 1998 indictment (two months before the embassy bombings) against bin Laden, to wit: In addition, al Qaeda reached an understanding with the government of Iraq that al Qaeda would not work against that government and that on particular projects, specifically including weapons development, al Qaeda would work cooperatively with the Government of Iraq.

Seized Iraq Intelligence Service records indicating that Saddam's henchmen regarded bin Laden as an asset as early as 1992?

Saddam's hosting of al Qaeda No. 2, Ayman Zawahiri beginning in the early 1990’s, and reports of a large payment of money to Zawahiri in 1998?

Saddam’s ten years of harboring of 1993 World Trade Center bomber Abdul Rahman Yasin?

Iraqi Intelligence Service operatives being dispatched to meet with bin Laden in Afghanistan in 1998 (the year of bin Laden’s fatwa demanding the killing of all Americans, as well as the embassy bombings)?

Saddam’s official press lionizing bin Laden as “an Arab and Islamic hero” following the 1998 embassy bombing attacks?

The continued insistence of high-ranking Clinton administration officials to the 9/11 Commission that the 1998 retaliatory strikes (after the embassy bombings) against a Sudanese pharmaceutical factory were justified because the factory was a chemical weapons hub tied to Iraq and bin Laden?

Top Clinton administration counterterrorism official Richard Clarke’s assertions, based on intelligence reports in 1999, that Saddam had offered bin Laden asylum after the embassy bombings, and Clarke’s memo to then-National Security Adviser Sandy Berger, advising him not to fly U-2 missions against bin Laden in Afghanistan because he might be tipped off by Pakistani Intelligence, and “[a]rmed with that knowledge, old wily Usama will likely boogie to Baghdad”? (See 9/11 Commission Final Report, p. 134 & n.135.)

Terror master Abu Musab Zarqawi's choice to boogie to Baghdad of all places when he needed surgery after fighting American forces in Afghanistan in 2001?

Saddam's Intelligence Service running a training camp at Salman Pak, were terrorists were instructed in tactics for assassination, kidnapping and hijacking?

Former CIA Director George Tenet’s October 7, 2002 letter to Congress, which asserted:

Our understanding of the relationship between Iraq and Al Qaeda is evolving and is based on sources of varying reliability. Some of the information we have received comes from detainees, including some of high rank.

We have solid reporting of senior level contacts between Iraq and Al Qaeda going back a decade.

Credible information indicates that Iraq and Al Qaeda have discussed safe haven and reciprocal nonaggression.

Since Operation Enduring Freedom, we have solid evidence of the presence in Iraq of Al Qaeda members, including some that have been in Baghdad.

We have credible reporting that Al Qaeda leaders sought contacts in Iraq who could help them acquire WMD capabilities. The reporting also stated that Iraq has provided training to Al Qaeda members in the areas of poisons and gases and making conventional bombs.

Iraq's increasing support to extremist Palestinians coupled with growing indications of relationship with Al Qaeda suggest that Baghdad's links to terrorists will increase, even absent U.S. military action.

Why is it that liberals heads explode if you mention (or, as the President did on Tuesday, say there are NOW terrorists in Iraq, then having the media twist that into a connection between Saddam and 9/11) then "discreditied" theory that Saddam and Al Queda are linked - BUT IT'S PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLE ON THE LEFT TO OPENLY SPECULATE ON THE ROLE OF THE US GOVT IN 9/11??
