Judge allows police to share info on missing teen with agency

ORANJESTAD, Aruba — A judge has ruled that Aruban police can share information with the FBI about a missing Mississippi native, striking down a defense motion that sought to prevent the American agency from gaining access to investigation files, the attorney general said Saturday.
The decision means the FBI, acting in an advisory role in the high-profile case, can receive transcripts of interrogations and information collected by Aruban investigators, said Chief Prosecutor Karin Janssen.
FBI agents, who've been on the Dutch Caribbean island since former Clinton, Miss., resident Natalee Holloway disappeared May 30, were granted access to material last month at the urging of the Aruban prime minister. Holloway's father, Dave Holloway of Meridian, Miss., said Saturday he's pleased to hear of the judge's ruling. "It gives more eyes and ears to the investigation," he said. "If the FBI can give any input or recommendation to the Aruban authorities, that's good."
Lawyers for Joran van der Sloot, a Dutch teenager who has been detained since June 9 in the disappearance, had argued that the FBI didn't have jurisdiction.
Calls to defense lawyers seeking comment were not immediately returned. Janssen said she had not received a copy of the ruling issued Friday and could not discuss it. Van der Sloot turned 18 Saturday and, because he is no longer a minor, will only be allowed visits by his parents once a week.
Holloway lives with her mother, Beth Holloway Twitty, in Mountain Brook, Ala. Holloway attended Clinton Junior High before moving to Alabama. The 18-year-old honors student disappeared on the last day of a graduation trip to Aruba with 124 classmates. She was last seen leaving a nightclub with van der Sloot and two of his friends.
