Hurricane Katrina, Live Thread, Part V
NHC - NOAA ^ | 28 August 2005 | NHC - NOAA

Posted on 08/28/2005 9:35:34 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico. Mandatory evacuation of New Orleans is finally underway. Louisiana officials are warning of complete failure to levy systems, and pleading with people to leave low lying areas. For those who choose to stay, they are recommending picks and axes for breaking through to access their roofs during flooding.

Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be rushing hurricane preparations to completion.

Glad to see the networks recognize the severity of this situation. Here in NYC on the local NBC affiliate they have the crooked "Public Advocate" debate on. Unbelieveable.

What are they saying at the Jefferson press conference?

See my posts towards the last 150 or so of thread IV. In a nutshell, expect a disaster that the city cannot possibly handle. If there is a direct hit and/or flooding, there will be many deaths and it will take a long time to make repairs.

That was no joke, either. The letter seemed to suggest the big danger was for people who ride out the hurricane--but let me tell you, they won't go away soon. Sorry to creep people out, but the snakes and other wildlife (including looters) are going to be a big problem even after the winds die down.

We are liable to see that New Orleans mayor floating on his cot before this is all over with.

Poisonous snakes.

This is a much larger and very under-reported part of the potential problem. You're talking about every sort too... moccasins, copperheads and various hybrids, along with all the non-poisonous ones all scrambling for high ground along with humans. I've heard many snake stories about Hurricane Audrey.

>> Ya I posted to the weirdo...what a nut!

I couldn't post... My note was sheer brilliance, and I am upset with the mod's for wrecking things for me.

They should have left it for people to play with, then I could be later getting out than already.

The NWS words are never that exact - they want people to know it is a definate thing, not a maybe. Frightening!!

Did you hear the chilling Jefferson Parish press conference? Have a pick axe ready to break through from your attic to your roof when the levy system fails.

I think the roof is a sprayed on material with the structure made of steel.
