Would this mean that there is oil pumping into the water where the oil rig used to be? Just wondering?

We don't have enough info to know the answer, but my guess is this is a rig that was moored along the water way and broke its moorings not an operational rig. They normally moor these rigs when not in use along water ways. If it's a working platform then that is something else. Most platforms have been shut in thus the wells have been turned off a few days ago and the workers evacuated...

Just guesses at this stage.

Any residual gunk still in the rig, maybe. Unknown if this was an active rig or one simply parked awaiting use.

Brian Williams just gave a report from inside the Superdome. It was a pretty calm report, no mention of the roof "shredding".

I've heard of 2 so far, on this thread - French Quarter and one on Tennessee street. Also heard, on another board, of one on northwest side being overtopped. I'm cubicle bound so can't get to live news other than here at this time.

How do you get that Dopplar imagery to overlay in Google Earth? I've gone through all the layer options, can't find anything for weather.

"And you think this storm has been hyped?"

I've been thinking that Katrina has made it easy on the newsreaders, letting them give their hyperbole generators a rest. I don't think they comprehend what this big lady is doing right now.

BTW, Ninth Ward is NOT near the French Quarter, in case people are confusing the two areas...
